PlayStation says the PS5 has no dedicated web-browser app, and Xbox’s supported-device information does not list PS5. A community-made homebrew client reportedly works on some jailbroken consoles, but its author tested it on only one PS5 running system software 13.60. Treat that as an experimental, unofficial route rather than a supported Xbox feature.
What you can and cannot do
The answer depends on whether you mean an Xbox-supported method or a community workaround:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Officially on PS5: Xbox does not document PS5 as a supported cloud-gaming device, and the console does not include a dedicated browser app.
- Through a supported browser elsewhere: Xbox Cloud Gaming can be used on listed phones, tablets, Chromebooks and computers with a compatible browser, controller and eligible access.
- Through PS5 homebrew: A community project describes a native client for jailbroken PS5 consoles. Its maintainer says it was tested on only one PS5 running system software 13.60, so compatibility with other firmware versions is not established.
Those are different confidence levels. Xbox’s requirements describe the service on supported devices; they do not validate a PS5 browser trick or the community client.

PS5 has no dedicated browser app
PlayStation’s official PS5 FAQ, published November 9, 2020, answers the browser question directly: “No, the PS5 system doesn’t include a dedicated web browser app.” That means there is no normal browser icon you can open, enter xbox.com/play into, and use like a computer.

The statement is deliberately narrow. It establishes that PS5 lacks a dedicated browser application; it does not prove that every internal web surface is impossible to reach, nor does it turn an undocumented workaround into official support.
Xbox does not list PS5 as a supported device
Xbox’s cloud-gaming requirements page describes supported devices and browsers, including Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome and Safari when playing on xbox.com. Its published device information does not identify PS5. Therefore, even if a hidden web view or unusual sign-in route could be opened, Xbox has not documented that setup as a supported PS5 configuration.
Xbox Cloud Gaming requirements that still apply
Using a different device does not remove the service requirements. Xbox’s current guidance says cloud play needs an active eligible Game Pass plan and a supported game in a supported region. The same page describes cloud access across Ultimate, Premium and Essential plans, but plan limits, catalogues and regional eligibility can change. Select free-to-play games may be playable with a free Microsoft account instead of a paid plan.

| Requirement | Xbox guidance | What it means for a PS5 attempt |
|---|---|---|
| Subscription or entitlement | An eligible Game Pass plan is required for cloud games; selected free-to-play titles are an exception with a free Microsoft account. | A subscription does not make PS5 an officially supported device. |
| Game and region | The title must be included for cloud play and available in a supported region. | Availability can differ by account country, title and date. |
| Browser | Xbox names Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome and Safari as examples for xbox.com. | Those browser instructions apply to supported devices, not to a PS5 without a dedicated browser. |
| Controller | Xbox supports compatible Bluetooth or USB controllers; touch controls are available for selected games. | DualSense support on Xbox-supported devices does not prove that the PS5 homebrew client works on every firmware. |
| Connection | At least 10 Mbps down; some devices may need 20 Mbps for best quality. Xbox recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi. | These are general service targets, not a performance guarantee for the homebrew application. |
Option 1: Play through an officially supported browser device
If your priority is reliable access rather than keeping the session on the PS5, use a device and browser that Xbox lists. This is the documented path.

- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
- Choose a supported device. Use a compatible Windows or other non-gaming computer, Chromebook, iOS device or Android device. Xbox’s March 2025 developer information describes browser access across those device classes.
- Open a supported browser. Xbox identifies Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome and Safari as examples for play on xbox.com.
- Sign in to the Microsoft account with the entitlement. Confirm that the Game Pass plan, free-to-play exception or other access method applies to the account and region.
- Connect a controller. Pair a compatible controller over Bluetooth or connect it by USB. Xbox’s developer documentation lists Xbox controllers, PlayStation DualSense and DualShock controllers, and Nintendo Switch Pro controllers among supported Bluetooth families on supported devices.
- Check the network before launching. Aim for at least 10 Mbps download speed; Xbox says some devices may require 20 Mbps for best quality and recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
- Select a cloud-enabled title. A game shown in your catalogue is not automatically playable in the cloud; open its listing and use the cloud-play option when it is offered for your region and plan.
This route does not stream the game to the PS5. It uses the supported device as the client, which is why Xbox can provide browser and controller guidance for it.
Option 2: The reported PS5 homebrew client
A community post quoting the project’s GitHub description identifies an “Xbox Cloud Gaming app for PS5 Homebrew.” The author describes it as a native Xbox Cloud Gaming client for jailbroken PS5 consoles. The instructions below reproduce that author’s reported arrangement, not an Xbox-approved installation procedure.
What the author says you need
- A jailbroken PS5 capable of running homebrew.
- The project package and a loader that can launch it.
- An extracted folder named
PPSA99810. - An Xbox account with the required Game Pass subscription, according to the project author.
- A network connection suitable for cloud streaming and a controller; the author says DualSense functions as the Xbox controller.
Reported installation and sign-in sequence
- Obtain the project package from its community release. Verify that the release is intended for your console and firmware before copying anything. The available report does not establish a current release status or a complete firmware compatibility list.
- Extract the package. The author instructs users to place the extracted
PPSA99810folder in/data/homebrew/on the jailbroken PS5. - Launch it with the homebrew loader. The post says to start the client through a loader; the exact loader and menu wording can vary with the jailbreak environment.
- Start account sign-in. The described client displays a code on the television. Use that code with the Microsoft account sign-in flow shown by the application rather than typing a password into an unverified prompt.
- Connect the controller. The project author says DualSense is used as the Xbox controller. Xbox independently lists DualSense as a compatible controller family for supported Xbox Cloud Gaming devices, but that does not independently certify this PS5 application.
- Choose a cloud game. The author says an Xbox Game Pass subscription is needed. The title must also be available for cloud play under the account’s current plan and region.
The author’s compatibility warning
The maintainer states: “I tested only on one PS5 (13.60) so any feedback would be good.” That is the only specific console-and-firmware test result established in the cited report. It does not show that the client works on newer firmware, older firmware, every jailbreak, retail consoles without a jailbreak, or all network conditions.
The available information also does not establish the project’s current maintenance status, later firmware support, required jailbreak version, or independent performance measurements. Check those details in the project’s current documentation immediately before attempting installation.

Protect the sign-in file
The project author says the client stores sign-in information in PPSA99810/account.json and warns users never to share that file because it can provide access to the associated Microsoft account. Do not upload it, send it to another person, attach it to a support post, or include it in a screenshot. If the file is exposed, follow Microsoft’s account-security process to change credentials and review active sessions.
Firmware, jailbreak and account considerations
Firmware is the central unknown
The one-console test on system software 13.60 is not a compatibility matrix. Updating a PS5 can change exploit availability or application behavior, while staying on an old version can limit access to current console features. The cited material does not say which later firmware versions work, whether a particular jailbreak is mandatory, or whether the application is still maintained.
Understand what is not documented
No authoritative source in the available material assesses the homebrew client’s effect on account standing, console security, warranty coverage or future system updates. Treat those outcomes as unknown rather than assuming that the app is harmless or officially tolerated. Keep personal account data out of project logs and community posts.

An eligible Game Pass plan may satisfy the service entitlement and the homebrew author’s stated requirement, but buying a plan does not convert a jailbroken PS5 into an Xbox-supported cloud device. Catalogue, plan names, free-to-play exceptions and regional access can change over time.

DualSense behavior
The community author says DualSense functions as the Xbox controller in the PS5 client. Xbox’s March 2025 developer article separately lists DualSense and DualShock controllers among Bluetooth controller families supported on Xbox Cloud Gaming’s supported devices. Those facts make the controller choice plausible, but they are not a test result for this application. Features such as adaptive triggers, haptics, headset audio and button labeling may not map exactly to an Xbox layout; the cited sources do not document those details.
Connection targets
- Minimum: Xbox states 10 Mbps download speed for cloud play.
- Higher target: Some devices may need 20 Mbps for best quality.
- Wi-Fi band: Xbox recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
- Stability: Xbox says performance also depends on connection quality, location, device and other factors.
These figures describe Xbox’s general service guidance. They are not measurements of the PS5 homebrew client, and meeting them cannot guarantee a particular resolution, frame rate or input delay.

The PS5 has no browser icon
That is expected under PlayStation’s FAQ. Do not spend time looking for a normal browser download or assume that an account subscription will add one. Use a supported phone, tablet, Chromebook or computer for the official route, or investigate the separate homebrew path only if your console already meets its requirements.
The cloud-play button is missing
- Check that the game is included for cloud play, not merely in the broader Game Pass catalogue.
- Confirm the account’s plan and region.
- Sign out and back in on the supported device to refresh entitlements.
- Remember that a PS5 browser workaround is not an officially documented fallback.
Video is blurry or the stream disconnects
- Run a download-speed test on the same network; compare it with Xbox’s 10 Mbps minimum and the 20 Mbps best-quality guidance for some devices.
- Move to 5 GHz Wi-Fi where possible and reduce competing traffic.
- Try the supported browser on another device to separate a service issue from a client issue.
- For the homebrew client, do not interpret a failure as proof that the account or game is unsupported; the project has no broad independent performance test in the cited material.
The homebrew app will not appear
Verify the folder name and location exactly as reported: PPSA99810 inside /data/homebrew/. Confirm that the loader can see homebrew packages and that the console’s jailbreak environment is active. If the folder is present but the app still does not launch, firmware or loader compatibility is more likely than a missing Xbox subscription; the report does not provide a universal fix.

Sign-in fails or a code expires
Generate a fresh code and complete the Microsoft sign-in flow promptly. Do not copy passwords or the account.json file into community posts. If the client repeatedly fails while the same account works on an officially supported browser, record the firmware and project version for the maintainer without disclosing account data.
Official route versus PS5 homebrew
| Factor | Supported device and browser | Community PS5 client |
|---|---|---|
| Official status | Documented by Xbox for listed devices and browsers. | Unofficial community project; not listed by Xbox as a PS5 feature. |
| PS5 requirement | None; play on the supported phone, tablet, Chromebook or computer. | Jailbroken PS5 and a compatible homebrew loader. |
| Firmware evidence | Uses the supported device’s normal operating-system and browser support. | Author reports one PS5 on system software 13.60 only. |
| Controller evidence | Xbox lists Xbox, DualSense, DualShock and Switch Pro Bluetooth families for supported devices. | Author says DualSense works in the PS5 app; broader controller behavior is not established. |
| Network guidance | Xbox’s 10 Mbps minimum, possible 20 Mbps best-quality target and 5 GHz recommendation apply. | The same service guidance is a useful starting point, but no PS5-client performance guarantee exists. |
| Confidence | Higher, because the setup follows Xbox’s published requirements. | Lower, because maintenance, firmware coverage and independent testing are not established. |
What Microsoft’s service statistics do—and do not—tell you
Microsoft Game Dev reported that 140 million hours were streamed through Xbox Cloud Gaming between October and December 2024. The same March 2025 article described availability in 28 major markets and said its Direct Capture work can reduce input latency by 16–72 milliseconds depending on the game. Those figures describe Microsoft’s service and optimization work, not tests of the PS5 homebrew client. They should not be used to promise a particular PS5 experience.
Which route makes sense?
Choose the supported-device route when
- You want the setup with the clearest documentation and troubleshooting path.
- You can play on a phone, tablet, Chromebook or computer.
- You do not want to jailbreak the PS5 or depend on an unverified firmware combination.
Consider the homebrew route only when
- Your PS5 is already jailbroken and you understand that the project is unofficial.
- You accept that the only reported test is one console on system software 13.60.
- You can verify the current project status and protect the Microsoft account sign-in file.
- You are prepared for the possibility that your firmware, loader or network setup is incompatible.
For a PS5 owner asking whether an ordinary browser can unlock Xbox Cloud Gaming, the practical answer is no documented method. The homebrew client is a separate, limited experiment whose compatibility must be verified for the exact console and firmware rather than assumed.
