Yes—you can stream eligible Xbox Game Pass games to a supported Meta Quest headset using the Xbox app, a cloud-enabled Game Pass plan, and a compatible controller. The game appears on a large virtual screen; this does not turn Xbox games into native VR titles. You’ll also need a supported region and a reliable internet connection.
What you need before you start
- A supported Quest headset: Xbox currently lists Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3, and Meta Quest 3S. Check Xbox’s VR support page if you have another model.
- A supported region: Xbox Cloud Gaming is available only in supported regions. Check the current Xbox region list.
- An eligible Game Pass plan: Xbox currently lists Essential, Premium, and Ultimate as including cloud gaming, with different playtime limits. Most games require an active subscription and must support cloud play. PC Game Pass is not listed as including cloud gaming on Xbox’s VR page. Some free-to-play games may be exceptions, subject to region and account requirements.
- A compatible controller: Xbox lists Quest controllers, Xbox Wireless Controller, and Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 as options. If you want to use an Xbox controller, verify that your specific model supports Bluetooth.
- A suitable Wi-Fi connection: For Quest cloud gaming, Xbox recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi and a connection speed of 20 Mbps or higher. That is a performance target, not a guarantee of smooth play.
Which Game Pass plan works on Quest?
The current Xbox VR support page lists these cloud gaming allowances: Essential includes 5 hours per month, Premium 10 hours per month, and Ultimate 15 hours per month. These are the allowances shown by Xbox on October 4, 2026; check the live plan page for current terms, prices, and benefits. Choose a plan based on its cloud-playtime allowance and the games and benefits you want, not on older launch coverage that described Ultimate as the only option.
Cloud gaming does not make every Game Pass title streamable. The library and availability can vary by region, plan, platform, and title. Check the Xbox Cloud Gaming library or the game’s listing for cloud support. Some supported games you own outside Game Pass may also be streamable.
How to start playing on Meta Quest
- Find and install the Xbox app. Open the Meta Quest Store and search for the current Xbox app listing. Xbox Wire’s December 2023 launch guide referred to the app as “Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta),” but the current name and store presentation may differ.
- Open the app and sign in. Follow the on-screen setup and sign in with the Microsoft account that has the eligible Game Pass subscription or access to a supported free-to-play game.
- Connect a controller. Pair a compatible controller using the Quest Bluetooth settings or the app’s instructions. Xbox also lists Quest controllers as a supported input option, so a separate Xbox controller is not automatically required.
- Choose a cloud-playable game. Browse the cloud library or open a game listing and confirm that cloud play is supported for your plan and region.
- Launch the game and adjust your setup. The game streams on a large virtual screen in Quest. If the stream stutters or responds slowly, check your Wi-Fi and connection speed.
Pairing an Xbox controller to Quest
For ordinary Xbox Cloud Gaming controls, use a controller supported by the service. Xbox names Xbox Wireless Controller and Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 among the choices, and its launch instructions specifically call out Xbox Wireless controllers with Bluetooth support. Pair the controller through Quest’s Bluetooth settings or follow the Xbox app’s connection prompts. Exact menus can vary with the headset’s software version, so use the current Quest interface if labels differ.

Xbox’s general cloud gaming FAQ says compatible controllers connect over Bluetooth or USB. On Quest, the simplest option is typically a compatible Bluetooth controller; confirm your model’s compatibility before buying or troubleshooting. Quest controllers are also listed as an option, so use those if you prefer not to pair a separate gamepad.
Improve streaming reliability
- Use a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network and aim for at least 20 Mbps, Xbox’s VR-specific recommendation.
- Keep the headset where its Wi-Fi signal is strong and reduce competing network use where practical.
- If the stream is unstable, test the connection and move closer to the router before changing game settings.
Xbox’s general Cloud Gaming FAQ gives 10 Mbps down as a minimum and notes some devices may need 20 Mbps for best quality. For Quest, follow the more specific 5 GHz and 20 Mbps guidance on Xbox’s VR support page. Actual performance can still vary with connection quality, location, device, and other factors.

What the Quest experience is—and isn’t
Quest displays the streamed Xbox game on a “massive virtual screen.” The Xbox games are not thereby running as native VR experiences: gameplay and controls remain those of the streamed game. Whether a specific title works depends on cloud support, region, plan, and current availability.
