To reserve a mobile game, use its official Google Play or Apple App Store listing: Google Play calls it Pre-register, while Apple calls it Pre-order. Then check the game’s device requirements separately. A store reservation does not by itself guarantee that the game will install on the phone or tablet you plan to use.
Pre-registration and compatibility are two separate checks
A game’s store page may offer a reservation even though the device you intend to play on is not eligible to install or run it. Availability and compatibility depend on the individual game, device, account, and region, and compatibility can change. Google’s guidance puts it plainly: “Apps on the Google Play Store may not be compatible with all devices.”
Use the official store listing to reserve the game, then use that listing on the target device—or ask the publisher—to confirm support. Avoid third-party download pages and APKs; they do not establish that a game is supported by your device or account.
How to pre-register or pre-order
- Find the official listing. Search Google Play or the Apple App Store for the game, and confirm that the page is the publisher’s official listing.
- Use the account connected to your device. Sign in to the Google or Apple account you intend to use for the game.
- Reserve it if the option appears. On Google Play, tap Pre-register. On Apple’s App Store, tap Pre-order. These options are not available for every title or in every country or region. Google Play campaigns run only in developer-selected Play countries or regions; the campaign territory is determined by the user’s Google Play registration, not necessarily their physical location. Apple pre-orders are likewise offered in selected regions.
- Read the confirmation. Follow the store’s prompt and check the listing or your account for confirmation. If the reservation control is absent, the game may not be available for pre-registration or pre-order in your region.
- Check the listing again near launch. Requirements, availability, and device compatibility can change before release.
Check whether your device is compatible
On Android with Google Play
- Open the Google Play Store app on the phone or tablet you plan to use.
- Search for the game and open its listing while signed in to the intended account.
- Check whether the listing lets you install the app or reports that it is unavailable or incompatible for that device. Google says the Play Store app displays apps compatible with the device it is running on. On the Google Play website, an incompatible device is shown grayed out.
Google lists location, screen size, and Android version among the factors that may affect compatibility. The app’s developer controls device targeting, and Google warns that “App compatibility can change over time.” A result on a different phone—or on the web while looking at another device—may not answer whether your own device is supported.

On iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, or Apple Watch
Open the game’s specific App Store product page and read its supported-device information and software requirements. Do not treat Apple’s minimum operating-system versions for using the pre-order feature as the game’s minimum runtime requirements: those are separate matters. If the listing does not make support clear, ask the game’s publisher or developer for the requirements for your exact device.
What happens when the game launches?
Google Play
Google Play sends registered users a notification when the game launches. Automatic installation is conditional, not guaranteed for every registration. Google’s published auto-install rules include an Android M-or-later device and Google Play Store version 19.2 or later. Child accounts under 13 and managed enterprise accounts are ineligible. Download size and connection also matter: apps up to 200 MB may auto-install over Wi-Fi or cellular; apps over 200 MB and up to 2 GB require Wi-Fi; apps over 2 GB are not eligible for auto-install. These are Google’s published rules, and account or regional availability may differ. A device that cannot auto-install can still receive the launch notification, and Play may retry installation when the conditions are met.

Apple App Store
Apple says a pre-ordered app notifies the customer and automatically downloads to the device used to pre-order when it is released. It may also download to other eligible devices if automatic downloads are enabled. Apple’s minimum operating systems for placing a pre-order are iOS 11.2, iPadOS 13, macOS 10.13.2, tvOS 11.2, and watchOS 6 or later. These are minimums for the store’s pre-order feature, not a universal statement about which devices can run a particular game.
Why might the store say your device is incompatible?
- The game targets different hardware or software. A required Android version, screen configuration, or other developer-set device criterion may exclude a device.
- Availability is restricted by region. A campaign or release may not be offered in the country or region associated with your store account.
- You are checking the wrong device or account. Verify the game in the store app on the device you want to use and with the relevant account signed in.
- The listing or compatibility status has changed. Store eligibility can change over time, so check again close to launch.
- The result needs a game-specific explanation. Google directs users to the app developer for title-specific compatibility information. Contact the publisher or developer with your device model, operating-system version, and the exact store message.
Timing and regional availability
Google says developers choose the Play countries or regions for a pre-registration campaign, and an active campaign must launch within 90 days or it is terminated. Its recommendation to enable pre-registration three to six weeks before the planned launch is developer guidance, not a deadline or requirement for players.

Apple permits a new app’s pre-order period to begin two to 180 days before release. An app already released in one region may be offered for pre-order in an additional region two to 365 days ahead. Those windows describe what developers can set; they do not mean every game will be listed for pre-order that early.

Check the game’s official store page again near release. If the game is missing from your region or the store reports incompatibility, contact the publisher or developer with your exact device model and software version. The listing or its support contact is the best route to a current, title-specific answer.
