Where to Start with Star Wars Games: A Beginner’s Guide

There’s no required Star Wars game order. Choose an entry point by the experience you want, from LEGO’s saga-spanning family option to Jedi adventures, battles, starfighters, and strategy.

There’s no required order for Star Wars games. Choose by the kind of play you want: LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga for a family-friendly tour of the main saga, Jedi: Fallen Order for a focused Jedi story, Battlefront II for large battles, or Squadrons for starfighter combat. Each is a different entry point, not a step in one franchise-wide sequence.

Choose a starting point by the experience you want

If you want… Start with… What to know
A family-friendly introduction to the main films LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga LEGO says it retells all nine Skywalker Saga films and calls it accessible for younger players while offering depth for others.
A cinematic, single-player Jedi story Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order It follows Padawan Cal Kestis after Order 66. Play Jedi: Survivor afterward for the next chapter.
To try the newer Jedi story first Star Wars Jedi: Survivor EA says it can be played as a standalone game, though it continues Cal Kestis’s story.
Large battles and multiplayer Star Wars Battlefront II EA describes multiplayer battles across the prequel, classic, and new trilogy eras, plus a single-player story spanning 30 years.
First-person starfighter piloting Star Wars: Squadrons EA describes a single-player campaign as well as multiplayer dogfights.
Turn-based tactical combat Star Wars Zero Company EA describes it as a single-player, turn-based tactics game. Check your regional platform store for availability.
An online role-playing world Star Wars: The Old Republic EA points to it as a massive online world; check current service details and system requirements before choosing it.

These are recommendations by format, based on official descriptions—not a ranking from comparative gameplay testing. Those descriptions do not establish a universal quality winner, which game is easiest overall, or current multiplayer population.

For a broad, approachable introduction: The Skywalker Saga

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga covers all nine Skywalker Saga films in a comic LEGO style, making it the clearest choice if you want to revisit familiar movie stories or play with younger Star Wars fans. LEGO describes it as “an accessible entry point into the Star Wars™ galaxy” that younger players can pick up while still offering depth for anyone to enjoy. That is LEGO’s own product description, not an independent assessment of difficulty.

Choose this if broad film familiarity and a lighter tone matter more than following one original game character through a continuous story. LEGO’s official Skywalker Saga page has the product details; check a retailer’s listing for the platform, edition, format, price, and stock available to you.

For a connected Jedi story: play Fallen Order, then Survivor

Begin with Fallen Order

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a single-player, third-person action-adventure about Cal Kestis, a Jedi Padawan living after Order 66. EA presents it as a story-led experience, so it is a natural starting point if you want a focused protagonist rather than a tour across the films. See EA’s Fallen Order page for the game details.

Continue with Survivor—or start there if you prefer

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor picks up five years after Fallen Order, according to StarWars.com. Playing the first game gives you the intended sequence for Cal’s story, but EA says Survivor can also be played on its own. If the sequel is the one you can access or want to try, starting there is a reasonable option; choose Fallen Order first if you want the character’s arc in order. The EA Survivor page lists game information.

EA lists Fallen Order through the EA app, Steam, Epic, PlayStation, and Xbox storefronts. These listings do not guarantee that every edition is available in every region; confirm the exact platform and edition in your local store. See EA’s Survivor game information and platform list.

For battles, starfighters, or strategy

Battlefront II: battles across film eras

Pick Star Wars Battlefront II if you want multiplayer battles drawing on three cinematic eras, or prefer a single-player campaign instead. EA says that campaign spans 30 years. These modes offer a different kind of entry than a character-led adventure; check the product page and your platform store for current availability and multiplayer details. EA’s Battlefront II listing describes the game.
