Reverie in the Moonlight is scheduled to launch digitally on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on November 19, 2026. You can preorder it in Nintendo eShop on either console or through Nintendo.com while signed in to the Nintendo Account linked to your console. Choose the standard Nintendo Switch version, the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, or—if you already own the Switch game—the separate Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack. Nintendo processes an eShop preorder payment no earlier than seven days before launch, then preloads the game for release-day access.
Which version should you preorder?
Nintendo lists three relevant purchase paths. The right one depends on the console you use, whether you already own the game, and whether you want the Switch 2-specific performance and control features.

| Option | What you receive | Enhanced features | Who should choose it | Important requirement |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch version | Digital game for Nintendo Switch | No Switch 2-specific enhancements are listed for this edition | Players using an original Switch, or anyone who wants the standard digital version | Nintendo’s Canada listing marks it Supported on Nintendo Switch 2 |
| Nintendo Switch 2 Edition | Digital Switch 2 version | Joy-Con 2 mouse-sensor support and an improved frame rate | Players buying for Switch 2 who want the enhanced presentation and controls | Purchase the Switch 2 Edition listing rather than the standard Switch listing |
| Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack | An upgrade that converts an existing Switch game into the Switch 2 Edition | The Switch 2 Edition features, including the listed frame-rate and mouse-sensor improvements | Owners of the Nintendo Switch version who are moving to Switch 2 | The base Nintendo Switch game is required; the pack is not a standalone game |
Nintendo says the Switch 2 Edition does not add different game content. Its stated changes are the improved frame rate and Joy-Con 2 mouse-sensor support. If you do not own the game, buy the edition that matches the console on which you plan to play. If you already own the Switch version, check for the upgrade-pack listing instead of buying the full game again.

Yes. Nintendo lists a digital Nintendo Switch release, and the same listing marks the game as Supported on Nintendo Switch 2. That means an original Switch owner can preorder and play the standard version without purchasing a Switch 2.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The Switch 2 Edition is a separate digital product for Nintendo’s newer console. Nintendo’s product information says the game content is the same between editions; the Switch 2 listing adds the specified technical and control improvements. A Switch owner who later changes consoles can use the upgrade-pack route, provided the Nintendo Account owns the base Switch game.
The available Nintendo listings describe digital products. They do not establish a physical cartridge edition, a boxed release date, or retailer inventory. Treat any physical listing or retailer preorder as unconfirmed until Nintendo or an authorized retailer publishes matching details.
How to preorder in Nintendo eShop
Nintendo Support says selected unreleased Switch and Switch 2 games can be preordered directly in eShop. Use these steps on the console where you want the game delivered.
- Open Nintendo eShop. Start eShop from the HOME Menu on your Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 and select the Nintendo Account that will own the purchase.
- Search for “Reverie in the Moonlight.” Use the eShop search field and open the official game result. Unreleased titles can show a preorder button rather than a normal purchase button.
- Inspect the edition name. Confirm whether the page says Nintendo Switch version, Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, or Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack. Do not rely only on the thumbnail or the console you are holding; read the product title and description.
- Check ownership before choosing an upgrade. The upgrade pack is intended for an account that already owns the base Nintendo Switch game. If the account does not own that game, select a full-game edition instead.
- Review the checkout details. Confirm the displayed price, currency, edition, Nintendo Account, and delivery console. Nintendo’s live store page is the authoritative place for the final price and any changes made before launch.
- Complete checkout. Approve the purchase with the payment method saved to the Nintendo Account or another method offered during checkout. A successful preorder should appear in the account’s purchase history.
- Leave the console connected for the download. Nintendo begins preloading after preorder payment is processed. Keep enough storage available and allow the console to connect to the internet so the download can finish.
If the eShop page does not show a preorder option, verify that you opened the official listing, that the account’s country or region supports the product, and that Nintendo has not temporarily changed preorder availability. Store pages can be updated before launch.
How to preorder from Nintendo.com
Nintendo also supports web purchases for digital games. A web preorder is delivered to the Nintendo console linked to the purchasing account rather than producing a code that you type in manually.

If the game does not appear on the expected console, check that the console is linked to the same Nintendo Account that completed the purchase and that automatic software downloads are enabled. You can also open eShop on that console and view the account’s software or purchase history.
When Nintendo charges a preorder and starts the preload
Nintendo Support states that an eShop preorder payment is processed no earlier than seven days before the game’s release. For this title, that window leads up to the November 19, 2026 launch. The charge is not necessarily taken at the moment you press the preorder button.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →After payment is processed, Nintendo starts the preload. Preloading puts the game data on the console before launch, but it does not provide early access. On release day, the software becomes playable after the release update is installed. Leave the console online long enough to download both the game and any required update.
The exact download time depends on your connection and available storage. If you are using a Switch 2, make sure you selected the Switch 2 Edition or have a qualifying base game for the upgrade pack; downloading the wrong product will not add the Edition enhancements.
Can you cancel the preorder?
Yes, Nintendo’s preorder FAQ says cancellation remains available any time before payment is processed and the game is preloaded on the console. Once that processing and preload stage has occurred, the normal preorder cancellation window has ended.

The wording and menu location can vary by region and account interface, so follow the option displayed on your account. If no cancellation option appears, check whether the payment has already been taken or the preload has begun.

Cancel before the charge is processed if you are still comparing editions, waiting for a price announcement, or unsure whether you will use the game on Switch or Switch 2. After canceling, you can place a new order for the edition you actually want, subject to the live store’s availability.
How to decide between the standard game and the Switch 2 Edition
Choose the Nintendo Switch version when
- Your primary console is an original Nintendo Switch.
- You want the regular digital game and do not need the Switch 2-specific features.
- You may eventually use Switch 2 but prefer to start with the base game and decide about the upgrade later.
Nintendo marks this version as Supported on Nintendo Switch 2, so the listing is not limited to the original hardware. The Switch 2 Edition remains the better fit if you specifically want its listed technical improvements.
Choose the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition when
- You are buying the game for a Switch 2 and do not already own the Switch version.
- You want the improved frame rate described by Nintendo as providing smoother gameplay and visuals.
- You want support for the Joy-Con 2 mouse sensor.
Nintendo says the Edition does not change the game’s content. The decision is therefore about hardware-specific performance and input features rather than an exclusive story, level set, or separate roster.
Choose the upgrade pack when
- Your Nintendo Account already owns the Nintendo Switch game.
- You are moving that purchase to Switch 2 and want the Edition enhancements.
- You want to avoid buying the complete game again.
Nintendo describes the pack as an upgrade that converts the Switch game to Reverie in the Moonlight – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. It requires the base game, so do not treat the pack as a substitute for a full purchase on an account that does not own the Switch version. Nintendo’s available information here does not state the upgrade-pack price; check the live eShop listing before confirming.

Storage, play format and the game’s advertised features
Nintendo’s 2026 product listing gives the Nintendo Switch version an estimated file size of 550 MB. Reserve more than the estimate if possible because console software can receive updates, and the final installed size can change before launch. If eShop reports insufficient space, archive another game or move data to compatible storage, then retry the download.
The listing describes single-system play. No local multiplayer or online multiplayer mode is established by the available product information, so do not assume that a second console or second player is supported.
Nintendo describes Reverie in the Moonlight as an action title in which monsters attack night after night and plushies defend the protagonist. Its product description advertises 40 types of plushies, more than 100 items, and more than 20 costumes. These are Nintendo’s published figures; they describe the listed game content rather than a separately confirmed review or performance test.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Price, physical copies and preorder bonuses
A final price is not established in the available Nintendo information. The amount shown at checkout can vary by country, currency, tax treatment, and edition. Check the store page immediately before payment rather than relying on an old screenshot or an unofficial listing.
The available listings also do not establish a physical cartridge edition, retailer stock, or a preorder bonus. If a retailer advertises one of those items, verify that it identifies the same edition and release date and that the offer is available in your region. Do not assume that a physical copy includes the Switch 2 Edition or that a standard Switch purchase automatically includes every Switch 2 feature.

The upgrade-pack price is likewise not stated in the supplied Nintendo product details. Existing owners should open the upgrade listing while signed in to the account that owns the base game; eligibility and the amount charged are shown there.
Using an eShop gift card to fund the preorder
A Nintendo eShop gift card can be used as optional account credit for a digital preorder. Match the card’s currency and region to the Nintendo Account before buying it. A card issued for one country generally cannot be redeemed on an account set to another country, and changing account regions can affect existing balances and purchases.
Redeem the card on the correct Nintendo Account, confirm that the balance is available, and then complete the preorder through eShop or Nintendo.com. Keep a separate payment method available if the balance does not cover the final amount, taxes, or any difference caused by a price change before Nintendo processes the preorder.
Preorder troubleshooting checklist
The game does not appear in search
- Check the spelling of the title and open the Nintendo-published result.
- Confirm that the Nintendo Account’s country or region matches the eShop you are using.
- Try Nintendo.com while signed in; web availability and console availability can display different interfaces.
- Check again later if Nintendo has not yet enabled preorders in your region.
You see the wrong edition
- Read the complete product title, including “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” or “upgrade pack.”
- Open the product details before checkout and verify the target console.
- If you own the base game, use the same Nintendo Account that made that purchase so the upgrade listing can recognize eligibility.
The purchase is complete but the game is not downloading
- Check the Nintendo Account’s purchase history and the console’s available storage.
- Connect the console to the internet and allow automatic downloads.
- Open eShop with the purchasing account and look for a download option on the title page.
- Remember that Nintendo begins the preload when payment is processed, not necessarily when the preorder is first placed.
The game is downloaded but will not start on launch day
- Install the release update when the console prompts you.
- Confirm that the system date and time are set correctly through the console’s system settings.
- Verify that you are launching the same Nintendo Account’s software and that the purchase was not canceled.
- If you purchased an upgrade pack, make sure the base Switch game is present on the account and console.
You want to cancel but no cancellation button is shown
Check whether Nintendo has already processed payment or started the preload. Nintendo’s stated cancellation window ends at that point. If the order status is unclear, review the account’s order details and Nintendo’s current support instructions for your region before attempting another purchase.
What to verify before pressing preorder
- The listing is for Reverie in the Moonlight, not another title with a similar name.
- The product label matches your hardware and ownership situation.
- The Nintendo Account shown at checkout is the account you will use to play.
- The displayed currency, price, and any tax are acceptable.
- The console has room for the estimated 550 MB download plus updates.
- You understand that payment can occur as early as seven days before launch and that cancellation must happen before payment and preload.
- You have checked the live listing for any newly announced physical edition, bonus, price, or regional restriction.
For a new buyer using Switch 2, the Switch 2 Edition is the straightforward choice when its enhanced frame rate and Joy-Con 2 mouse-sensor support matter. For an existing owner, the upgrade pack is the route Nintendo provides to obtain those Edition features without purchasing the base game a second time.
