How to Prepare a Podcast Video Archive for a Continuous YouTube Stream

A practical workflow for organizing podcast episodes, looping them through OBS to YouTube Live, planning archives and rights, or running playback from the cloud.

Prepare the episodes as a checked, ordered playlist, then play that playlist through OBS Studio’s VLC Video source and send it to YouTube Live with an encoder stream key. For continuous playback, enable Loop Playlist, test the stream before launch, keep an independent local archive, and plan stream sessions rather than relying on one stream longer than 12 hours. If you do not want a computer and home connection to run continuously, StreamNeo can loop uploaded videos from the cloud.

1. Check and organize the archive before streaming

Start with the finished episode videos you have the right to livestream. Decide the order—chronological, by theme, or another editorial sequence—and check each file for the intended picture, audio track, and episode-specific graphics. A short test playlist can help you catch missing audio, unexpected gaps, or an episode in the wrong position before viewers encounter them.

For a local OBS setup, keep the media files available on the computer that will run the stream. OBS documents local media support for formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM. For a playlist with repeat playback, OBS’s VLC Video source accepts a list of media items and provides a Loop Playlist option; VLC must be installed for that source to appear. See OBS’s Media Sources documentation.

2. Confirm the channel can livestream

Before configuring OBS, confirm that the YouTube channel is verified and has not had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube says first-time livestream activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it before the date you intend to launch. Follow YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance.

4. Choose output settings and test representative episodes

YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends RTMPS; video encoding with H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate (CBR); and a two-second keyframe interval, with four seconds as the maximum. For stereo audio, YouTube lists 128 Kbps. Check the current YouTube encoder settings because its guidance can change.

Choose a resolution and bitrate that the available upload connection can sustain, rather than assuming every archive file’s original settings will be reliable for a live encode. Test with episodes representative of the archive, including fast motion and the loudest or quietest audio. Watch the Live Control Room preview and stream-health notices; a test is a practical way to catch mismatched output, unstable upload, or audio problems before a long session. YouTube also provides live-streaming tips.

5. Protect the source archive and plan stream sessions

YouTube can automatically archive streams under 12 hours, but says a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. Keep a separate local copy of the episode archive and do not rely on a single indefinite livestream as the only recording. YouTube recommends a local recording as a backup; an external SSD is one possible place to keep that separate copy. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

For continuous programming, plan manageable sessions and restart points so the stream can continue without assuming one session will create a complete YouTube archive. Account for the operational work of stopping and restarting, checking the playlist position, and confirming the next session in Live Control Room.

6. Clear livestream rights for every episode

Having permission to publish an episode as a video does not by itself establish that you may rebroadcast it as live content. YouTube’s live-stream terms say the provider represents and warrants that it has all necessary rights to exploit the live content on Google services worldwide. Confirm that the rights cover the livestream for every episode and every included song, clip, image, or other third-party element. Read the YouTube livestream terms.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A match can interrupt or terminate the stream; a license alone may not prevent interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance and resolve rights questions before scheduling a continuous broadcast.

7. Choose how to keep the stream running

Approach Best fit What to account for
StreamNeo — #1 for unattended YouTube playback Creators who want uploaded podcast videos looped from the cloud, without leaving a computer running. One flat price per slot for uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, with a free first day and no card. It is a YouTube-only service.
OBS on a local computer Creators who want direct control and have the archive stored locally. The computer, local media, and network connection need to remain available, and the operator needs a monitoring and restart plan.
Another cloud prerecorded-video service Creators seeking unattended playback through a cloud service. YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a 24/7 prerecorded-video tool, but its current features, pricing, reliability, and partner terms are not established by that guide. Verify these directly before choosing.

YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre among its tools. That listing is not a comparison or guarantee of a provider’s current features or performance.

Or let it run in the cloud

With StreamNeo, upload your podcast videos, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month.
