Connections asks players to sort 16 words into four groups of four based on a shared connection, according to the NYT Help Center. The verified groupings for puzzle #921 are:
- Yellow — BIT OF WISHFUL THINKING: DAYDREAM, FANCY, FANTASY, ILLUSION
- Green — PROTAGONIST: HERO, LEAD, PRINCIPAL, STAR
- Blue — COMPONENT OF AN ARTS AND CRAFTS PROJECT: FELT, GLITTER, PIPE CLEANER, POMPOM
- Purple — SOCIAL _____: BUTTERFLY, MEDIA, SECURITY, WORKER

Why some guides appeared on December 17
The daily puzzle releases at midnight in the player’s local time, according to the NYT Help Center. That means a guide published during the evening of December 17 in one timezone could refer to the December 18 puzzle.

How to replay puzzle #921
The NYT Help Center says the Connections archive includes puzzles dating back to June 12, 2023, and is available to All Access and Games subscribers. An NYT account is needed for archive progress and history; archive games do not affect streaks. Access terms can change. The Help Center lists NYTimes.com/games/connections and the Games app as places to play.
