To avoid missing Pokémon GO event rewards, check the in-game Today View before and during play, note each research task’s deadline and any bonus window, then complete the tasks that expire soonest. Open Today View with the binoculars icon on the map and review both Events and Happening Now; event terms, local times, eligibility and bonuses vary, so use the live listing rather than an old event guide.
Where to find Timed Research and current event details
- On the map, tap the binoculars icon to open Today View.
- Open the Events tab and check the Happening Now section for current event information and Timed Research.
- Open the event’s linked details and note its start and end times, task deadlines, eligibility requirements, and any separate bonus window.
- Check the listing again while the event is live. Niantic directs players to Today View for current event information; details can differ from one event to another. See The Today View.
Which research tasks should you do first?
Prioritize the closest deadline
Timed Research disappears after its specified availability period. Special Research, by contrast, remains available until completed, according to the Pokémon GO Help Center’s Types of Research guidance. Treat the deadline shown for each Timed Research task as a cutoff: complete the task and claim its reward before that time.

During an event, revisit the Events tab and Timed Research list regularly. If you have several tasks, work on the one that expires first, especially if it has a short window or requires a particular location. Do not assume that all tasks end when the overall event ends; check each task’s displayed deadline.
Separate event hours from task deadlines
An event’s start and end time, a bonus’s active window, and an individual research task’s expiration can be different. Record each applicable time in the time zone shown in the live event details, and plan around the earliest cutoff that affects the reward you want.

- There’s a Pikachu within your Pokémon GO Plus + that can sing you lullabies and act as your morning alarm; Pikachu grows friendlier the more you sleep, unlocking even more sounds!
How to manage Field Research slots
PokéStop Field Research has a limited inventory. Niantic’s Help Center says you can hold up to three PokéStop tasks; a fourth slot is available only when you receive Bonus Research. Completing and claiming a task frees a slot, and each PokéStop provides one task per day. Event Field Research may be marked with a gold Event border. Check the current rules in Types of Research.
- Before spinning stops for event tasks, check whether your research inventory has room.
- Claim completed tasks promptly if you need a slot for another stop’s research.
- Look for the gold Event border to distinguish event Field Research.
How Meetup Check-in Timed Research works
Meetup Check-in Timed Research is tied to eligible meetups and requires an onsite check-in. The exact research and rewards depend on the event. Niantic’s Meetup Check-in Timed Research guidance describes these steps:
Rank #2
- Catch Pokémon and track your rest rhythm with the Pokémon GO Plus + accessory!
- Keep track of your sleep with the press of a button
- Press and hold the central button on the Pokémon GO Plus + accessory and place it by your pillow to track your rest rhythm on the Pokémon Sleep app
- There’s a Pikachu within your Pokémon GO Plus + that can sing you lullabies and act as your morning alarm; Pikachu grows friendlier the more you sleep, unlocking even more sounds!
- Spin PokéStops or throw Poké Balls automatically in Pokémon GO for hands-free gameplay (and Great Balls and Ultra Balls can be thrown too!)
- Check the meetup listing for a Rewards icon and RSVP if the meetup is eligible.
- Arrive onsite and check in using the meetup’s instructions.
- Claim the initial 500 XP within one hour of check-in to receive the full research.
- Confirm that the Timed Research appears in your game, then read its tasks and expiration time.
This research is limited to one task per day. Do not leave the check-in area assuming that the research has been added; verify it in the game while you can still resolve a missing-reward issue onsite.
When location-based tasks are involved, catch manually
Niantic’s GO Fest 2026 known-issue notice says that catches made with a Pokémon GO Plus + or a similar device do not advance Timed Research tasks requiring a catch in a specific location. For those tasks, use the Pokémon’s encounter screen and catch it manually. The notice says PokéStop spins still count for location-based research tasks. See the GO Fest 2026 location-based research known issue. This is a specific notice; check event guidance for any other device-related limits.

Use older event pages as examples, not as current rules
Niantic’s 2024 Pokémon GO Wild Area: Fukuoka event page illustrates why checking exact task deadlines matters. For that event, hourly ticket-holder Timed Research tasks expired one hour after being issued. Unused event-specific GO Safari Balls expired at 5:00 p.m. JST on each event day, and later daily Timed Research rewards had to be completed and claimed by 8:00 p.m. local time.
That same event page listed bonuses including 2× Catch Candy and half Egg Hatch Distance, and initial Adventure Effect durations of 6 minutes for Roar of Time and 10 minutes for Spacial Rend. Each effect activation cost 5,000 Stardust and 5 Dialga Candy or 5 Palkia Candy, respectively. These are historical terms for that 2024 event, not a schedule or promise for current or future events.
