To reduce the chance of Content ID disrupting your YouTube livestream, use only audio you have the rights to use in a live broadcast, and have the rights owner add your channel to their Content ID allowlist when required. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a licence alone does not guarantee the stream will continue uninterrupted. If YouTube warns you about a match, remove or stop the identified content promptly.
Why YouTube may interrupt a live stream
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted material appearing in another live broadcast. If it detects a match, YouTube may show a warning and replace the stream with a placeholder image. If the content remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance also distinguishes this live enforcement from a Content ID claim on an archived stream: an archived stream may receive a claim after it ends, but a live match can disrupt the broadcast before then.
Check every audio source before going live
Review everything that could enter your stream mix, not just the music you deliberately play. Background playlists, browser tabs, captured game or application audio, guest microphones, and intro or intermission clips can all introduce third-party sound.
Choose audio with permission for live use
YouTube recommends its Audio Library, original music, Creator Music in certain regions, or third-party music only after you check its licence. Public-domain music may also be usable, but verify its status rather than relying on an upload’s label. For any third-party track, check that the licence covers livestreaming on YouTube and the intended use, territory, and monetization. Track-level terms can differ.

Creator Music is described by YouTube as a catalogue for monetized videos in certain regions. Do not assume that a track listed there is cleared for livestreaming; check the current availability and the track’s terms for your use. YouTube’s tips for finding safe music explain why permission and licence terms matter.
Get the channel allowlisted when you have a licence
If a rights owner has licensed music to you, ask them to add your YouTube channel to their Content ID allowlist before the event, and confirm that it has been done. YouTube warns: “If your channel isn’t added to their allowlist, your live stream can be interrupted even if you’ve licensed the content.” Keep a record of the permission and what it covers; permission and allowlisting are separate checks.

Do not treat credit or a “free” label as clearance
Giving credit, seeing “free” in a track description, or buying rights from an unrelated website does not by itself establish that the music is safe for YouTube use. Confirm who controls the rights and what the licence authorizes. YouTube says such labels or off-platform purchases are not proof of copyright safety.
What to do if a warning appears during the stream
- Follow the on-screen warning. Stop playback or remove the identified third-party content promptly. YouTube says a stream may continue if the creator addresses the issue; leaving the content in place can lead to interruption or termination.
- Do not rely on a licence alone to clear the match. If you have permission, contact the rights owner about adding your channel to their allowlist. A licence does not show that the allowlist is already in place.
- Check YouTube Studio if the broadcast stops. Look for a strike or another restriction and follow the information shown there.
What to check after an archived livestream
If you archive the broadcast, inspect its copyright details in YouTube Studio after the stream ends. YouTube says Content ID claims on livestreams are made after completion when the stream is archived. A post-stream claim is a different stage from a live match that interrupts transmission.

For eligible claims, Studio may offer options to replace the claimed song with Audio Library audio, erase the song, mute all audio in the claimed segment, or trim that segment. The edit needs to fully address the claimed material to clear the claim. Song erasure may not work for some audio; muting all sound is usually faster and more likely to clear the claim, but it also removes speech and other audio in the affected segment. Compare the impact before choosing an edit. YouTube’s guide to removing copyright-claimed content describes the available Studio options.

Live Content ID matching is a rights-holder tool
YouTube’s live Content ID matching feature is not a general setting that streamers can turn on to avoid music matches. It is available only to certain partners using Studio Content Manager. A rights owner needs global rights and exclusive ownership of the material; the feature is intended for time-sensitive content at high risk of unauthorized restreaming. The channel broadcasting the event manages whether live matching is enabled.
For matches under that rights-holder system, YouTube describes a warning, followed—if matching continues—by replacement of the stream with a static image and no sound, and possible termination if the match continues. The feature has policy limitations, including restrictions on using track policies and certain review or match-percentage policies. These details matter chiefly to rights owners and event partners, not creators selecting background music. YouTube’s live matching guidance covers eligibility and operation.

For a prerecorded, looping YouTube stream, StreamNeo is a cloud service from Yorker Media: upload your video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. - Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud.
Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on.
