To preview a Minecraft world, open the Chunkbase Seed Map, enter the world seed, and select the edition, version, and dimension that match the chunks you want to inspect. Turn on the map layers you need, then use the map’s coordinates and search tools to check locations. Treat pins as predictions, not guarantees, and confirm important finds in-game.
Get the seed you want to preview
For an existing single-player world, you can use the in-game /seed command or import the savegame into the Seed Map to fetch its seed. On a multiplayer server, you need permission to use /seed; if you do not have it, ask the server owner for the seed.
For a world you have not created yet, enter a seed you are considering or use the map’s Random control to generate one. The Seed Map is a browser-based preview tool, not a way to reveal an unknown server seed.
Set the edition, version, and dimension
Enter the seed, then select the Minecraft edition or platform, game version, and dimension relevant to the area you are checking. The map’s feature list changes with the selected version and dimension, so a mismatched selection can hide features or show predictions that do not fit your world.

In worlds that have been upgraded, different regions may have been generated under different versions. Match the version that generated the particular region you are inspecting rather than assuming the current version applies everywhere. The Seed Map documentation was updated Oct. 6, 2026, and reports support through Minecraft 26.3; check the selector for the version options available when you use it.
Choose map layers and locate places
Show the geography or feature you need
Use the map controls to inspect biomes, terrain coloring, grid lines, and supported features. Expand the Features panel and toggle the structures or other map features you care about. The available options depend on the selected version and dimension, and many feature icons only become visible when you zoom in.
For versions 1.18 and later, a biome map may not match the visible shape of coastlines: it shows underlying biome areas, which do not always trace exact land and water. The terrain option adjusts colors to help with this difference.

Search and read coordinates
Drag and zoom to explore. Click a feature icon for its details, or use search to look for biomes, structures, and other features around the current map position. Coordinate controls let you jump to an X/Z location. These coordinates are useful for planning a route, but a map pin does not provide a Y value for every feature.

Save or share a preview
The map can create shareable deep links and screenshots. Saved seeds, markers, and completion state are stored locally in the browser. Export that data before clearing browser data or switching browsers if you want to keep it; a share link or screenshot is a separate way to share a view.
How closely will the map match your world?
Seed maps calculate predictions from a seed and generation settings; they do not guarantee that every feature will appear exactly as shown. Chunkbase says some features can be wrong or missing, including dungeons, world spawn positions, amethyst geodes near caves or mineshafts, and Nether fossils and dried ghasts on Bedrock. Villages and igloos can also occasionally fail to generate in-game. The documentation does not provide a measured overall error rate.

Some small structures may be marked at a chunk center rather than their exact location. Chunkbase gives fossils, ruined portals, and trail ruins as examples, with the structure potentially offset by 10–20 blocks. X/Z alone may be enough to find a surface or seafloor structure, but mineshafts, strongholds, and Nether fortresses can require searching at different heights.
On Bedrock, predictions become somewhat less reliable millions of blocks from 0,0 and may be missing or shifted nearer the world border. If a location matters, use the map to narrow your search and verify it in the game.

- The whole map looks wrong: Check that the seed has no extra characters or leading or trailing spaces, then confirm the edition, version, and dimension. For an upgraded world, make sure the selected version matches the region’s generation history.
- A modded or customized world differs: Mods, add-ons, data packs, and behavior packs can change generation. Predictions may not account for those changes.
- The coastline colors seem off: For versions 1.18 and later, the map’s biome areas may not match the visible land-water boundary. Try the terrain option for adjusted coloring.
- A structure is nearby but not at the pin: Small structures can be offset from their chunk-center marker, and features without a Y coordinate may require searching at different heights.
- A slime chunk seems inactive: Slime spawning is infrequent, so a slime chunk may appear unproductive if you have not waited long enough.
- A map function is missing or behaves oddly: Use a recent major browser; some functions may be disabled in older browsers.
If you report a discrepancy, include the seed, platform, version, and coordinates so the issue can be checked in context.

Find a seed before previewing it
If you do not have a seed yet, the Chunkbase Seed Finder can search for candidates using conditions such as a target biome or terrain height, nearby biomes, structures, feature clusters, or terrain. Choose the intended edition and version, set conditions, search, and open a matching result in the Seed Map.
The Seed Finder documentation notes that sampled-area conditions trade precision for speed and that spawn positions are estimates. Its results also inherit the Seed Map’s limitations, so check promising locations in-game.
