In YouTube Studio, go to Customization → Home tab, add a Channel trailer section, choose an uploaded video, and publish. Make the opening seconds identify the stream and show representative footage or audio; then direct visitors to the live stream.
What a channel trailer does for a 24/7 stream
A channel trailer is the preview shown on your channel Home tab to people who have not subscribed. YouTube says, “Your channel trailer offers a preview of your channel so viewers can learn more and subscribe.” A viewer who has watched it will not be shown that trailer again, according to YouTube’s channel layout guidance.
For an always-on stream, the trailer’s job is to quickly explain the channel’s format and point a visitor toward the live content. It is not the same as a trailer attached to a scheduled live stream; that separate feature plays on the scheduled stream’s watch page before the event begins.
How to add a channel trailer on YouTube
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Open Customization → Home tab.
- Under Layout, choose Add section → Channel trailer.
- Select the video you want to use as the trailer, then click Publish.
- Visit your channel Home tab as a non-subscriber and check that the preview explains the stream and makes the live content easy to find.
YouTube’s current channel-layout instructions do not specify a special duration or resolution for a channel trailer. Treat it as a channel preview rather than applying the requirements for scheduled-stream trailers.

What to put in the trailer
These are practical editorial choices, not platform requirements. Keep the message accurate and useful to someone who has just found the channel.
- Identify the subject immediately. Name the game, format, or other stream content in the opening seconds.
- Say it is live 24/7 only if that is true. Explain whether viewers can tune in at any time and what they are likely to see or hear.
- Show what the stream actually contains. Use representative gameplay, scenes, or audio instead of relying only on a logo or a generic “live now” claim.
- Give a clear next step. Tell visitors to open the live stream or find it in the channel’s live content section.
- Keep claims current. Check schedules, on-screen text, and audio/video rights, and replace the trailer if the stream’s subject or format changes.
Promote the stream beyond the channel trailer
YouTube recommends creating a channel trailer or teaser and sharing a stream link at least 48 hours before going live. That timing is part of its promotion guidance for an upcoming event, not a guarantee of views and not a special launch window for a stream that is already always on. For a 24/7 channel, a practical adaptation is to share the persistent live link and label it clearly as always on.

YouTube also suggests connecting social accounts, embedding the stream URL on a website, creating a Live Section for upcoming and live events, and optimizing the channel and videos. Its guidance says subscribers may see public events in their homepage feed and may find a live stream in “What to Watch Next.” After a stream, the archive is automatically uploaded by default; YouTube says making a live archive public can increase the reach of future streams. Can you add a trailer to a scheduled live stream?
Yes. YouTube’s separate scheduled-stream feature lets an uploaded regular channel video play on the scheduled stream’s watch page before the stream begins. To set it up:

- Upload the trailer as a regular video on your channel.
- Open YouTube Studio → Go Live.
- From the Manage tab, create or select a scheduled stream and edit it.
- Open Customize, add a video under Trailer, and save.
YouTube’s current live-stream settings guidance says this feature is for creators with more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. The trailer must be 15 seconds–3 minutes, use a YouTube-supported video type, comply with audio/video rights and Community Guidelines, and is recommended to match the scheduled stream’s aspect ratio and resolution. These rules apply to the scheduled-stream watch-page trailer, not the channel Home tab trailer.
What YouTube’s guidance does—and does not—say about results
YouTube recommends trailers and other promotion steps, but its cited guidance provides no measured effect specifically for channel trailers promoting 24/7 streams. There is no established uplift or viewership figure to promise. Use the trailer to make the channel’s purpose clear and make the live stream easier to find, then assess your own channel’s results.
