Put each Secret Lair card in a correctly sized standard-size sleeve, handle it with care, and keep it in a stable indoor location away from humidity, heat, leaks, and other environmental extremes. For cards you play, choose sleeves that fit securely for shuffling; for cards you collect or display, use a compatible binder or storage box and limit unnecessary handling.
Why sleeves and careful handling help
Magic cards have a coating that helps protect their printed surfaces from moisture, scuffing, wear, and finger oils. Wizards of the Coast describes that coating as the first line of defense, while noting that sleeves are a common way players protect cards. A coating is not a substitute for careful handling or an outer sleeve. Wizards’ explanation of playing-card coatings dates to April 26, 2018.
Wizards also says Magic’s proprietary laminated playing-card paperboard can be sensitive to changes in humidity and temperature. Its guidance does not set a Secret Lair-specific ideal temperature or humidity target, so focus on avoiding swings and extremes rather than chasing an unsupported number.
Choose protection for how you use the card

Ultra PRO has documented a Secret Lair-themed Magic sleeve made of archival-safe polypropylene and sized for standard trading cards. Its Holiday 2021 product listing is unavailable, so it is an example of the sleeve category, not a claim that this particular item is currently for sale. “Archival-safe” is the manufacturer’s description, not a guarantee of permanent preservation. Store cards in a stable indoor place
Choose a location with relatively stable conditions and low risk of leaks. Avoid attics and basements: the Library of Congress identifies them as poor collection-storage locations because environmental control is often inadequate and leak or flood risk is higher. It also warns that a plastic storage container in a high-humidity area can increase mold risk. These are general collection-preservation principles, not Secret Lair-specific testing. - Keep cards away from damp areas, water sources, and places that experience large temperature or humidity swings.
- Use a binder or storage box for organization, but confirm the fit for sleeved cards before loading them.
- Do not assume a sealed plastic container is protective if the surrounding location is humid.
Handle cards gently and avoid improvised treatments
When moving a card, hold it by its edges and avoid touching the printed face more than necessary. Do not clean cards with liquids or chemicals, and do not try to flatten foils using a procedure that has not been established as safe for these cards. If a card is dirty or damaged, avoid experimenting with treatments that could affect its surface.

What to do if a card is defective when opened
Keep the original sealed-product packaging and the affected card, then check Wizards’ current Product Replacement policy. The policy says an exact-card replacement may be possible through its process when the original sealed-product packaging and damaged card are returned. It does not cover used aftermarket purchases or guarantee a perfect or mint replacement; check the current instructions and eligibility before sending anything.

Not in terms of basic physical care: use a sleeve, handle the card carefully, and store it in a stable indoor place. Secret Lair drops are an official line of collectible card releases, and the official FAQ says most drops are limited print run while some remain print on demand. That distinction does not establish the scarcity or market value of an individual card, and storage choices should be based on use and protection rather than an assumption about future value.
