Inside, work through guarded rooms, electric traps, lava jumps, climbing sections, and switch puzzles until you reach the sleeping survivor’s Cinder Vessel. Interact with it to rescue Athalan Skree, return to your base, and use a Summoning Staff to make the Hunter available as a survivor and craftsperson.

The map marker is the reliable way to identify the destination. The vault’s regional description and landmark relationship narrow the area, but an exact coordinate is not established here, so do not rely on a guessed pin or a fixed coordinate.

Complete The Ancient Spires
Hunter Becomes The Hunted depends on completion of The Ancient Spires. If the Hunter objective is not available, check this prerequisite first. Searching the Springlands before the prerequisite is complete will not replace the quest step that directs you to the vault.
Activate the correct Flame objective
Once the prerequisite is complete, use The Flame’s quest list and select Hunter Becomes The Hunted. Its active objective is Find The Hunter, and the destination is shown as Ancient Vault – Hunter. Keeping this objective active matters because the quest marker is the primary navigation aid.

Where is the Ancient Vault Hunter?
- Open the world map after the Hunter objective is active.
- Locate the Springlands region.
- Use the marker for Ancient Vault – Hunter rather than trying to infer the location from the survivor’s name.
- Travel toward the area east of the Springlands Spire.
- When the marker leads you to the sealed Ancient building, enter the vault and continue inside.
The important distinction is between the region and the landmark: the vault is in the Springlands, and its documented relationship to the Spire is east of it. The quest marker should take priority if your map view, world state, or route makes the landmark relationship difficult to judge.
How to open and progress through the Hunter vault
Ancient Vaults are sealed Ancient buildings. Reaching the building is only the start; the interior is a traversal dungeon rather than a single room with one exterior lever. The Hunter vault can combine the following obstacles:
- Guarded interior areas that must be crossed safely.
- Electric traps that punish careless movement.
- Lava jumps requiring deliberate timing.
- Climbing routes that carry you between elevations.
- Switch puzzles that open doors or reveal chest rooms.
Use the active objective as your navigation reference and treat each opened section as progress toward the survivor. If a route appears to end, look for a climbable continuation, a switch, or a movement route rather than assuming the vault entrance is still locked.
Move through guards and traps methodically
Guarded rooms and electric hazards occupy the same overall route as the climbing and switch sections. Avoid treating the vault as a straight sprint: stop at each new platform, identify the next safe surface, and only then commit to a jump or climb. Electric traps and lava are separate hazards, so a path that is safe from one can still expose you to the other.

Bring the traversal and survival supplies you normally use for a multi-room Ancient building. The documented route requires movement through traps, jumps, climbs, and combat spaces, but it does not establish a special Hunter-only key or an exterior activation sequence.
Use the ground-floor three-switch door
A three-switch door on the ground floor has a gold chest behind it. This is an internal loot route, not a documented replacement for the quest objective. The available evidence identifies the door and the number of switches but does not establish a verified activation order.

If the door does not open, recheck that all three switches have been activated and that you are interacting with the switches themselves, not nearby decorative objects. Do not assume that a sequence from another Ancient Vault applies here.
Optional chest routes inside Ancient Vault – Hunter
The vault contains several documented detours. They are useful for loot, but none replaces the rescue interaction at the end of the main route.

Gold chest behind the ground-floor door
The ground-floor three-switch door leads to a gold chest. If you are collecting the vault’s loot, solve this door before leaving the ground-floor area. The exact switch order is not confirmed, so the safe description is simply a three-switch puzzle that opens access to the chest.
Grapple route from the Hunter’s chamber
A grapple point in the Hunter’s chamber leads to a room with a silver chest on top of the temple. When you reach the chamber, inspect the upper route instead of moving directly onward; the grapple point is the entrance to this optional detour.

Hidden outer door beside the trellis
Another silver chest is reached from outside the temple. Drop from the outer stone walkway to the grass, then look beside the climbing trellis for a hidden door. The hallway beyond contains the chest. This route is easy to miss if you remain on the main elevated walkway, so check the grass-level wall before moving on.
Wooden chest outside the temple
A wooden chest is listed outside the temple, up a ladder. Check the exterior elevations and climb the ladder if you want to clear the known outdoor loot before returning to the interior objective.

Rescue Athalan Skree
Continue through the vault until you reach the sleeping survivor. The rescue trigger is the Hunter’s Cinder Vessel. Interact with the vessel when you reach it; this rescues Athalan Skree, the Hunter survivor.
Reaching the chamber is not the same as completing the rescue. If Athalan has not been added to your survivor progression, make sure the interaction with the Cinder Vessel actually completed before leaving the vault. The vessel interaction is the documented handoff from dungeon exploration to the next quest step.
Summon the Hunter at your base
- Leave the vault after the Cinder Vessel interaction has rescued Athalan Skree.
- Return to your base.
- Ensure that you have a Summoning Staff; the quest requires one to summon the Hunter after the rescue.
- Use the Summoning Staff at your base to summon Athalan Skree.
- Confirm that she is present as a base survivor before attempting to use her crafting support.
The vault rescue and the base summoning are separate milestones. Finding the Cinder Vessel completes the rescue in the Ancient Vault; the Summoning Staff is what makes the rescued Hunter available at your base.

Athalan Skree is the Hunter survivor. Her role covers hunting, tanning, weaving, arrows, and ranged-oriented equipment. Summoning her therefore provides hunter-focused crafting support in addition to adding the survivor to your base.

The survivor’s role is tied to her being summoned at the base. Completing only the dungeon route does not place her there until the Summoning Staff step is performed.
Why the entrance may seem locked
The Hunter quest is missing
Check whether The Ancient Spires is complete. That is the prerequisite for Hunter Becomes The Hunted. Without the quest, the destination marker for Ancient Vault – Hunter may not be available as your active objective.
The map marker points somewhere unexpected
Re-select Hunter Becomes The Hunted and verify that the objective reads Find The Hunter. Then use the marker in the Springlands and the east-of-Springlands-Spire relationship as your route reference. Do not substitute an unverified coordinate.
You reached the building but cannot find a single opening lever
The vault is a sealed Ancient building with an interior progression route. Look for the path through guards, traps, climbing sections, and switches. The documented three-switch door is on the ground floor and leads to a gold chest; it is not identified as the external entrance mechanism.
You are stuck at the three-switch door
There is no confirmed switch order to follow. Check that all three switches are activated, inspect the surrounding route for a missed switch, and avoid importing a sequence from another vault. The reliable information is the door’s location and its three-switch design, not a numbered order.

Verify both milestones: interact with the Hunter’s Cinder Vessel in the vault, then return with a Summoning Staff and perform the summon. The rescue interaction and the base summon are required in that order.
Shortest reliable route
- Finish The Ancient Spires.
- Activate Hunter Becomes The Hunted and select Find The Hunter.
- Follow the marker to Ancient Vault – Hunter in the Springlands, east of the Springlands Spire.
- Enter the sealed Ancient building.
- Cross the guarded rooms, electric traps, lava jumps, climbing sections, and switch puzzles.
- Optionally clear the three-switch gold-chest door and the documented silver and wooden chest detours.
- Reach the sleeping survivor and interact with the Hunter’s Cinder Vessel.
- Return to your base and use a Summoning Staff.
- Use Athalan Skree as the Hunter survivor and craftsperson for hunting, tanning, weaving, arrows, and ranged-oriented equipment.
That sequence resolves both parts of the objective: reaching the Hunter vault and unlocking Athalan Skree as a usable base survivor.
