To rebroadcast a prerecorded event as a continuous YouTube Live stream, send the video file through a live encoder, configure the encoder to repeat it, and connect the encoder to a stream you create in YouTube Studio. The encoder must remain running, with power and a reliable internet connection, unless you use a cloud playout service. A replay of an uploaded video on its YouTube watch page is not itself a live broadcast.
What a continuous prerecorded live stream involves
YouTube Live receives a live feed from an encoder. For a prerecorded event, the encoder uses a saved video file—or a playlist of files—as its source and sends that material to YouTube as a live stream. The repeat or loop behavior is set in the encoder, not by replaying a normal YouTube video.
YouTube’s published encoder guidance describes how to send a feed, but it does not provide one universal recipe for looping a file. The loop setting and playlist behavior depend on the software or hardware you choose. Check that encoder’s current instructions and test the complete setup before relying on it for a public event.
Before you start
- Confirm live-stream eligibility. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave enablement until the day of the event. See YouTube Help’s “Get started with live streaming” and encoder setup guidance; interface labels can change.
- Prepare a rights-cleared event file. You need the necessary rights for the video, performances, music and other included material, for both the planned live broadcast and any archive. A file being prerecorded does not grant permission to rebroadcast it.
- Choose how to run the encoder. A software encoder on a computer gives you control over the source and playlist, but the computer, encoder process, power and upload connection must stay available. A dedicated hardware encoder is another option; YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events, but that recommendation does not establish that a particular device supports continuous looping.
- Check your upload connection and power plan. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. That is headroom beyond the stream’s bitrate, not a claim that matching the encoder bitrate with your internet speed is enough.
Set up the continuous broadcast
- Enable live streaming and verify the channel. In YouTube Studio, complete any required verification and live-stream activation. If this is the first time the channel has streamed, allow up to 24 hours for enablement.
- Create or schedule the stream. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or schedule the live stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the broadcast. The key lets the encoder send video to your stream; treat it like a password and do not share or publish it.
- Load the event into the encoder. Select the video file as the media source, or build a playlist if the event consists of multiple files. Configure the encoder’s repeat, loop or playlist behavior there. The precise control and whether transitions are seamless vary by encoder; verify the vendor’s current instructions rather than assuming a setting exists.
- Connect the encoder to YouTube. Enter the stream URL and key in the encoder’s YouTube destination settings. YouTube recommends RTMPS. Confirm the encoder is sending to the intended stream, especially if you manage more than one channel or stream.
- Choose a bitrate that fits your connection. For H.264 at 1080p/30 fps, YouTube’s published settings list a 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended encoder bitrate. These are encoder settings, not a guarantee that a connection with the same upload speed will be sufficient. Leave the recommended 20% upload headroom and account for other devices using the connection. Choose settings appropriate to the actual upload capacity and the encoder’s supported options.
- Preview and check the full chain. Before going public, inspect the preview in Live Control Room and verify picture, sound, aspect and playback order. Check the watch page on a phone as well as a computer, and confirm the audio is audible without clipping or silence between playlist items.
- Start and monitor the stream. Watch stream health and keep checking audio and video after the broadcast begins. YouTube recommends continuous monitoring. Confirm that the file reaches its end and starts again as intended; a successful preview at the beginning does not prove the loop will work later.
- Stop the encoder when the event is over. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends stopping the encoder when streaming has stopped. For a planned continuous broadcast, decide in advance who will monitor it and who can restart the encoder or restore the connection if something fails.
Plan around YouTube’s long-stream limits
YouTube says a live stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable for very long streams. If keeping a replay matters, do not assume that YouTube will create an archive of a broadcast that runs beyond 12 hours; make a separate recording or plan shorter streams and verify the archive after the event.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube’s published live-stream guidance also lists limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key at the same time. If you are coordinating multiple simultaneous broadcasts, account for both limits when assigning streams and keys.
Copyright, community rules and monetization
YouTube states that all content in live streams must follow its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Its livestream terms require the provider to have the necessary rights for the live content, including music licensing rights. Get permission for every relevant component of the event and for the intended live and archived uses. A license for an original event or a copy of its recording may not cover every later use.

Rebroadcasting repeatedly does not, by itself, establish that a stream is banned. Monetization is a separate issue: YouTube’s policy says repetitive or mass-produced content can be ineligible for monetization as inauthentic content. The policy page’s update notice is dated July 15, 2025. Review the current policy and consider whether the broadcast provides distinctive value rather than relying on repetition alone.
Why the stream may fail—and what to check
- You cannot start the stream: Check that the channel is verified, live streaming is enabled and the channel has no live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days. If activation is new, it may take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube receives no signal: Confirm the encoder is running, the correct stream URL and key are entered, and the stream is pointed at the intended Live Control Room event. If needed, generate or copy the correct key again and update the encoder securely.
- The picture or audio stutters: Check encoder stream health, upload stability and available bandwidth. Reduce the encoder bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it, and preserve upload headroom rather than using all available capacity.
- The video stops at the end instead of repeating: Check the encoder’s source or playlist repeat setting and test a full pass through the file. Loop controls are encoder-specific; YouTube’s general encoder instructions do not supply a universal looping procedure.
- The live feed looks or sounds wrong: Check the encoder preview and YouTube’s Live Control Room preview, then verify the source file, audio routing and settings before restarting the public stream. Keep monitoring both audio and video during the broadcast.
- You expected an archive or rewind but cannot use it: For streams longer than 12 hours, YouTube says archiving may fail entirely and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable. Keep a separate recording if a replay is important.
