To run gaming highlights continuously on YouTube, send a prerecorded playlist or video feed to YouTube Live using an encoder—or use a cloud service built for continuous prerecorded streams. First clear the rights to your game footage and audio, confirm that your channel can livestream, then configure and test the feed in YouTube’s Live Control Room. A computer-based setup gives you control but depends on your computer and connection staying available; a cloud setup avoids that dependency.
Choose a way to send highlights to YouTube Live
YouTube describes an encoder as software or hardware that converts video into a format YouTube can stream. Encoders are used for gameplay and overlays; the right setup depends on whether your highlights are already video files or you need to capture a live console feed.

YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded streams. That listing identifies a possible workflow; it does not establish YouTube endorsement, guaranteed growth or a particular service’s current terms.
For a DIY setup, OBS is software; paid capture hardware is not a requirement unless you need to route console output into the PC. YouTube’s guide covers software and standalone hardware encoders. See OBS’s console-capture guidance before choosing a capture device.

Check rights before preparing a highlight loop
YouTube’s livestream terms make the creator responsible for having the necessary rights to the live content, including music licensing rights. Owning a game does not by itself establish that every soundtrack, third-party clip, overlay or other included asset is cleared for a continuous public broadcast.
- Check the publisher’s rules for streaming footage from the specific game and note any restrictions that apply.
- Check soundtrack and other embedded audio separately. A game-footage permission may not cover music rights.
- Keep records of permissions and licenses for clips, overlays and other material you did not create.
- If you cannot establish that an item is cleared for the intended live use, remove it or replace it before going live.
The applicable rules can vary by game, rights holder, location and content. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions set out the platform’s rights requirement.

Make sure the channel is ready to livestream
- Verify the channel. YouTube requires a verified channel to livestream.
- Check for restrictions. YouTube’s eligibility guidance requires no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days.
- Allow time for first activation. Enabling livestreaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.

Set up a local highlight stream with OBS
- Prepare a continuous video source. In OBS, add the video or playlist source you intend to broadcast, arrange any overlays, and confirm that playback repeats as you expect. If the highlights come from a console in real time, bring that signal into OBS with a compatible capture device or a supported remote-play route. For already-recorded files, a capture card is not needed.
- Check picture and sound. Play the source through a full test. Confirm that the video is visible, audio is audible and at a suitable level, and transitions or gaps behave as intended. Avoid assuming your PC or upload connection can sustain a particular resolution or frame rate without checking the actual setup.
- Create the livestream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Set the title, description, visibility, category and other event options for the broadcast. YouTube’s live stream settings guide explains the available controls.
- Choose or create a stream key. Copy the key from the stream setup and enter it in the encoder’s stream settings. A stream key lets the encoder send its feed to YouTube; treat it like a password and reset it if it is exposed.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Check the Live Control Room preview before you make the event public. Confirm the correct feed is arriving and that viewers can access the event as intended.
- Monitor the running broadcast. For a continuous channel, arrange a routine to check that the feed remains live and the video and audio are still correct. YouTube recommends checking the stream and local archive files as part of a broadcast workflow.
YouTube’s encoder documentation does not set one universal output configuration for every game, computer and connection. Choose settings your hardware and upload connection can sustain, and test them before relying on a long-running broadcast.

Plan for long broadcasts and monetization review
Do not rely on YouTube to archive a 24/7 stream in full
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If a complete recording matters, keep a local archive or split the broadcast into shorter sessions; check that local recording is working rather than assuming the live archive will be complete. A compilation is not automatically eligible for monetization
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams and address reused content, including clips and compilations. A July 15, 2025 policy notice clarified the inauthentic-content policy and said the reused-content policy did not change. Whether a particular highlights channel qualifies cannot be determined from the fact that its videos are looped or live; review the current YouTube channel monetization policies and do not assume that edits or commentary guarantee approval.

Troubleshoot common problems
