Use OBS Game Capture for the game, but don’t assume it will record Xbox achievement notifications too. If a toast is missing, test Display Capture—an older OBS forum suggestion points to its Windows 10 capture mode for Game Bar—but results can vary by setup. Make a short local recording and check it before relying on the scene for a livestream.
Why the achievement notification may not appear
OBS Game Capture is designed to capture a DirectX or OpenGL game. Its optional Capture third-party overlays setting is off by default, and OBS warns that enabling it can conflict with Game Capture. The setting may help with some overlays, but OBS does not promise that it will capture Xbox achievement toasts. See the OBS Game Capture documentation.
Xbox Game Bar is a Windows gaming overlay, opened with Windows key + G. Microsoft documents Game Bar’s Capture widget for recording clips and taking screenshots, and lists Windows key + Alt + G to start or stop a recording in full-screen PC games. Those Game Bar recording controls are separate from OBS capture sources. See Microsoft’s Windows keyboard shortcuts.
Xbox Wire’s October 22, 2019 announcement described an Achievements overlay in Game Bar and said achievement notifications would open Game Bar. That is a dated feature description, not a guarantee about every current Xbox app, Windows version, or notification configuration. Read the Xbox Wire announcement.

Set up OBS to record the game
- Launch the game from the Xbox PC app. Microsoft describes the app as a place to browse and launch Game Pass titles, and says Win + G opens Game Bar while playing. Microsoft’s Xbox app overview.
- In OBS, add a Game Capture source. Choose the game window or the full-screen capture mode that fits how you play. OBS documents Game Capture as an efficient way to capture a game.
- Trigger or wait for an achievement notification, then inspect a local recording. Confirm that the game appears and check whether the toast is visible before streaming.
If the toast is missing, compare capture sources

- Add a separate Display Capture source and select the monitor showing the game. Check its properties for capture-mode options available in your installed OBS version; labels and behavior can change.
- Make a short local test with an actual achievement toast or another visible Game Bar overlay. Check the saved video—not just the OBS preview—to see whether the notification was recorded.
- Check what else is visible. Display Capture can expose the desktop, including windows or notifications unrelated to the game. Arrange the scene carefully and avoid showing private information.
- Use only the source combination that works on your PC. If the toast is absent from the test recording, that setup has not established a reliable way to capture it; do not assume that cropping or adding the Xbox app window will fix it.
The available reports point in different directions: a 2020 OBS forum moderator suggested Windows 10 mode for capturing Game Bar, while a 2025 poster said their Display Capture missed PC Game Pass achievement pop-ups. Where Game Bar clips are saved
Microsoft says clips recorded through Game Bar are stored locally and appear in the relevant game’s Xbox app hub. That guidance applies to Game Bar recordings; it does not establish that OBS recordings are saved there. Microsoft’s Game Bar clip instructions.
