Use Loom or Clipchamp for a combined screen-and-camera mode, or add screen and webcam sources to an OBS scene. Set permissions, choose your inputs, and test the recording.

To record your screen and webcam together, use a recorder with a combined screen-and-camera mode, such as Loom or Clipchamp, or create a scene in OBS with both a screen-capture source and a webcam source. Select the intended camera and microphone, allow the required permissions, and make a short test recording before you begin.

Choose a method for your recording

The right option depends on what you need after recording: a quick walkthrough you can share, an editable project, or control over how the screen and camera are arranged.

  • Loom: A straightforward choice for a screen-and-camera recording with editing and sharing features. Loom’s available features and plan limits can change; current pricing is not established here. See Loom’s screen recorder.
  • OBS: Use it when you want to compose a scene from separate screen and webcam sources. You control their placement, but you need to configure the scene and audio inputs. Read the OBS Quick Start Guide.
  • Clipchamp: A screen-and-camera recording option within its video editor, with device selection when multiple cameras or microphones are connected. See Clipchamp’s instructions.
  • Mac’s built-in recorder: Screenshot or QuickTime can capture the screen and microphone audio, but Apple’s instructions do not describe a built-in webcam overlay in this workflow. Use a tool that supports camera capture if you need your face visible over the screen.

Set up a combined screen-and-camera recording

Before you start

  1. Decide whether you need a quick shareable recording, an editable project, or a configurable layout.
  2. Choose the screen, window, or capture area you intend to show. If you have multiple displays, check the selected display before recording.
  3. Select the camera and microphone you want to use. If more than one device is available, do not assume the default is the right one.
  4. Allow the app and, when recording in a browser, the website to access the screen, camera, and microphone as needed.
  5. Make a brief test recording. Play it back to verify that the screen is the right one, the camera image is visible, and your voice is audible.

Record with Loom

  1. Open Loom’s recorder and choose Screen and Camera.
  2. Select the screen or capture area, then choose the camera and microphone.
  3. Start recording, present your walkthrough, and stop the recording when finished.
  4. Review the capture and use Loom’s editing or sharing features if they suit your workflow.

Loom’s support guidance says its recorder cannot capture two monitors at once or switch monitors during a recording. Choose the intended display before you start. See Loom’s capture-mode guidance.

Record with Clipchamp

  1. Open Clipchamp’s screen-and-camera recorder.
  2. Allow camera and microphone access when prompted.
  3. Check the selected camera and microphone. Clipchamp selects defaults automatically, and provides device dropdowns when multiple cameras or microphones are connected.
  4. Start recording and check the result in the editor.

Clipchamp’s instructions cover screen-and-camera recording and device selection.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Build a scene in OBS

  1. In OBS, create or select a scene for the recording.
  2. Add a display-capture or window-capture source for the content you want to show.
  3. Add a webcam source, then position and resize it in the preview so it does not cover important content.
  4. Speak and watch the Audio Mixer meters. If the wrong microphone is active or the meters do not move, open Settings → Audio and select the intended device.
  5. Record a short test and play it back to confirm both sources and the narration were captured.

OBS’s Quick Start Guide explains how to add sources and check audio devices. Read the OBS setup guide.

Check recording permissions

On macOS

For screen recording access, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording. Review the listed apps and allow or turn off access as appropriate. Apple recommends reviewing third-party apps’ privacy practices. Camera and microphone access may also need to be allowed for the app you use. See Apple’s screen and system-audio recording permissions guidance.

Apple’s built-in Mac screen-recording instructions describe recording all or part of the display and optionally including microphone audio. Some apps, including Apple TV, may not allow their windows to be recorded. The instructions do not show a live webcam bubble as part of this built-in workflow. Apple’s page was published September 15, 2026. See Apple’s Mac screen-recording instructions.

On Windows

Open Settings → Privacy & security → Camera and check camera access. Store apps can have individual controls; desktop apps may rely on the broader desktop-app permission. A browser-based recorder may also need camera or microphone permission in the browser for its website. See Microsoft’s camera-permission guidance.

Troubleshoot common problems

  • The webcam image is missing: Confirm that the camera source is included or that the combined screen-and-camera mode is selected. Check OS and browser camera permissions, then choose the intended camera in the recorder.
  • Your narration is silent: Check microphone permission, select the intended input, and speak while watching the recorder’s audio indicator. In OBS, use Settings → Audio if the Audio Mixer meters do not move or show the wrong device.
  • The wrong monitor or window appears: Stop and select the correct display or capture area before restarting. Loom does not support capturing two monitors at once or switching monitors during a recording.
  • The recording app cannot capture a screen or window: Review screen-recording permission settings. On a Mac, some protected apps may not allow their windows to be recorded.
  • A browser recorder cannot use your devices: Check both the operating system’s permission and the browser’s permission for the specific site. Re-select the camera and microphone if several devices are connected.
