First, avoid writing over any copy that might still contain your progress. The recovery route depends on your platform: check Steam sync and the older PC if you play on Steam, PlayStation Plus cloud storage on PS5, or the Xbox account’s cloud save on Xbox Series X|S. A save can be recovered only if a usable local or cloud copy remains; the official guidance does not promise recovery if every copy has been deleted, overwritten, or corrupted.
Before troubleshooting, protect any copy that may be intact
If the game is open, do not exit or power off while the save icon is visible. Capcom says manual saves and autosaves share one save slot, so a later save can replace the progress you are trying to recover. If you are dealing with a cloud-sync conflict, do not continue playing on the device showing the warning until you have checked for a newer copy elsewhere.
- Identify the platform and the account used to play.
- Check whether another device still has the progress you are missing.
- Before downloading or syncing a candidate backup, make sure it is the copy you want to keep; replacing local data with an older copy can set progress back.
Choose the recovery path for your platform

Steam: resolve Cloud sync problems before launching
If Steam says the game could not sync
Do not choose “Play Game” merely to get past a sync warning. Steam says continuing can create a conflict between local and cloud files and may result in lost progress. Fix the network or synchronization issue before launching the game. Steam lists Dragon’s Dogma 2 as supporting Steam Cloud, but that does not mean a current or usable backup is guaranteed.
If progress is missing on a newer computer
- Do not start or save on the newer computer yet.
- Check the older computer where you last played; its local save may be newer than the cloud copy.
- Reconnect that computer to Steam and allow synchronization to complete. Steam says a newer local file that syncs successfully there should appear on the newer computer the next time the game launches.
Steam’s guidance on lost files or progress after moving to a different machine warns that offline play does not sync until you return online. It also says lost cloud data is unlikely to be recoverable, and Steam Support cannot recover lost saves or resolve cloud conflicts.

Do not assume a manual file swap is a supported fix
Capcom says Steam Cloud can back up the save, but warns that operation of backups created from local storage is not guaranteed. Its FAQ does not provide an approved file-replacement procedure. If no intact local or cloud copy remains, the reviewed official guidance offers no dependable recovery route; reinstalling the game or buying another copy will not restore missing progress.
PS5: check PlayStation Plus cloud storage
Capcom identifies PlayStation Plus cloud storage as the save-backup method for PS5 and says a membership is required to access it. Check whether a relevant upload exists before downloading a cloud copy or replacing local data. Capcom’s PS5 FAQ does not explain how to recover a deleted or corrupted save or guarantee that cloud storage contains an earlier usable version.

Xbox Series X|S: check the account’s cloud and local save state
Capcom says saves may be backed up to Xbox service cloud servers and directs players to the console maker for more details. Check the same Xbox account used to play and compare the available local and cloud state before continuing in a way that could replace the better copy. The Xbox FAQ does not provide a detailed procedure for recovering an overwritten or corrupted save, so use Xbox support for current platform-specific sync instructions.
Fix common Dragon’s Dogma 2 save problems
“Load from Last Inn Rest” takes me farther back than expected
“Last Inn Rest” means the last time the Arisen rested at an inn or dwelling; camping does not update it. If you camped after your last inn rest, loading that option can return you to an earlier point without indicating that the game lost a newer save.

The game appears not to save
- Saving is unavailable while fighting an enemy.
- To save manually, use Pause Menu > System > Save.
- The game autosaves when you enter a new area or rest at an inn.
- Wait for the save icon to disappear before exiting the game or turning off the console.
Capcom’s platform FAQs say manual and autosaved data share one save slot. There is not a separate autosave to fall back to if the shared save has been overwritten.
Progress changed after moving computers or answering a cloud prompt
Treat this as a possible sync-version conflict before playing further. Steam says offline play delays synchronization, so the cloud copy may not include the latest progress. Check the older computer for its local save and avoid overwriting either candidate copy while resolving the conflict.

What recovery can and cannot be guaranteed
Recovery depends on whether a usable copy still exists and whether it contains the progress you want. Steam, PS5, and Xbox each have a cloud-save route, but the official guidance does not promise that a backup exists, is recent enough, or can restore a save lost everywhere. Capcom’s current all-platform, PS5, and Xbox FAQs are marked updated July 20, 2026; its Steam FAQ shows a last update of May 23, 2024. Consult platform support for current sync controls rather than relying on generic recovery utilities or unverified file-replacement steps.
