First check YouTube Studio for an archive, then check the encoder computer for a local recording. Either copy may have survived the outage; restarting the encoder is a separate question and is not a documented way to repair or rejoin the interrupted event.
1. Check whether YouTube saved an archive

Open YouTube Studio and select Content, then the Live tab. Find the interrupted event and check whether an archive is listed.

Open the archive and confirm that it plays. Note the last intact timestamp and whether the video and audio are complete; an entry in Studio does not by itself confirm that the full stream was captured.

If the archive exists but is private or otherwise not visible to viewers, review its visibility in Studio before changing it. YouTube documents managing archive visibility in its archive guidance.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. An archive is therefore possible, not guaranteed. The 12-hour limit is especially relevant to long-running prerecorded broadcasts.
2. Check for a separate local recording

On the encoder computer, look in the recording destination configured for the broadcast. If you do not know the destination, check the encoder’s recording settings or the folder selected when the stream was set up.

Confirm that the file exists, opens, and plays. Scrub near the end to establish how much footage survived, and check that both picture and sound are intact. A file that stops before the outage may still contain useful material.

Keep the local file as a separate copy. The YouTube archive and the encoder’s local recording are independent: one may exist without the other. YouTube recommends recording a local archive as backup in its archive guidance.

If neither copy contains the missing portion, a restart cannot recreate footage that was not recorded. Keep any surviving file unchanged until you have made a safe copy; you can edit or upload it separately, subject to your content rights and workflow.
3. Decide whether to resume broadcasting
Recovering a saved recording and getting a live feed back on air are different tasks. YouTube’s encoder instructions explain connecting with a stream URL and key, but the official guidance does not promise that after a power cut a restarted feed will continue the same event, keep its watch page live, or combine separate segments into one archive. Treat the event’s current state and the encoder’s options as specific to your setup.

Open the event in YouTube Live Control Room and confirm that you have selected the intended stream. Check the current stream details there rather than relying on settings remembered before the outage.

In your encoder, verify the stream URL and key against the details shown in Live Control Room. If the encoder reports a stream-key error, YouTube advises copying the current key from Live Control Room into the encoder. Check the preview and stream health before treating a restart as successful. Make sure video and audio are present. Confirm the event’s state in Live Control Room and tell viewers where to find any separate continuation if necessary.
Do not assume restarting the encoder will repair the original archive or reconnect viewers to the same event. The YouTube guidance cited here does not specify those outcomes for an interruption caused by a power cut.
4. Diagnose what failed before trying again
Separate a problem in the encoder’s output from a problem sending that output to YouTube. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance and streaming tips suggest checking the following:

If the encoder output is poor: inspect the video and audio sources, routing, encoder errors, and CPU load. Use the local recording to help determine whether the problem is already present before the feed reaches YouTube.

If the encoder output looks and sounds healthy: investigate the outbound connection between the encoder and YouTube. If the connection remains unstable, contact your internet service provider.

If the local file is missing or incomplete: check whether local recording was enabled and whether the configured destination was available. Do not treat YouTube’s archive as a substitute for a verified local recording.
5. What DVR can—and cannot—recover
YouTube DVR lets viewers pause and rewind while a stream is live, subject to its limits; it is particularly relevant to streams longer than 12 hours. It is not a creator archive, a local backup, or a way to restore a broadcast after it has ended. See Turn on DVR on live streams.
6. Prevent another outage from costing the recording

Record locally and verify it: check that the archive file opens and plays, and that its size grows during the stream. YouTube’s YouTube live streaming tips — Computer advises verifying the integrity of local archive files.

Choose a dependable recording destination: make sure the configured drive has enough available space for the planned recording and remains connected. A separate drive can help preserve a copy, but cannot reconstruct footage that was never recorded.

Plan and test failover: YouTube recommends testing failover by stopping the primary encoder or unplugging its Ethernet cable, then monitoring the stream. Test your actual setup before relying on it during a broadcast; do not assume a backup path works until you have verified it.

Monitor the feed and the local file: check stream health and confirm the recording continues to grow, rather than discovering a failed connection or recording after the event.
