How to Recreate Your Witcher 2 Choices in The Witcher 3

To carry your earlier decisions into The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, start a new game with Simulate Witcher 2 save enabled. After the White Orchard opening, the Imperial Audience quest in Vizima has Morvran Voorhis question Geralt about five events. Your answers set the Witcher 2 world-state flags used by the new game. A console cannot import a Witcher 2 save directly, so simulation is the supported method there.

What the Witcher 2 simulation does

The setting is a continuity tool rather than a second campaign. It lets you establish a handful of decisions from The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings even when no usable save file is available. With simulation enabled, the game postpones those decisions until Morvran’s interrogation. With it disabled, the game applies its default assumptions and the interrogation does not occur.

The questions concern five flags: Aryan La Valette’s fate, the faction Geralt supported, the decision involving Triss during the second game’s political crisis, Síle de Tansarville’s fate, and Letho’s survival. They do not recreate every conversation or action from a Witcher 2 playthrough. They establish the specific continuity facts that The Witcher 3 checks later.

Before you begin: platform and edition limits

Consoles

Direct Witcher 2 save importing is unavailable on consoles. CD PROJEKT RED’s support guidance says console players can only simulate their saves by answering questions about events in The Witcher 2. Select the simulation option during new-game setup; do not expect the game to find a console save from the previous title.

PC

On a supported PC setup, the game may offer a save-import route in addition to simulation. If you do not have the correct Witcher 2 save, or you want to choose each flag deliberately, simulation is the predictable option. The interrogation lets you verify the five states instead of relying on an old file whose choices you may not remember.

Complete Edition and current platforms

The official product information for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition lists Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine as included and identifies support for current-generation platforms. Packaging and platform behavior can change with updates, so check the edition and patch installed on your system before starting. The same official information states that save files remain compatible.

How to enable simulation and answer Morvran

  1. Choose New Game. Do this before entering the opening sequence; the simulation choice is part of new-game setup.
  2. Turn on Simulate Witcher 2 save. Leave the option enabled if you want to set the five continuity flags yourself. Selecting No means the special confirmation conversation will not happen.
  3. Play through White Orchard. The interrogation is not available immediately. Complete the opening section and continue until Geralt reaches Vizima.
  4. Begin Imperial Audience. During this quest, Morvran Voorhis conducts the relevant questioning. The game presents the events as dialogue choices rather than a separate configuration screen.
  5. Answer from your Witcher 2 playthrough. Choose the state you actually created if you remember it. If you do not, use the role-playing guidance below; there is no universally correct combination.
  6. Finish the conversation. The selected answers become the world-state used for the rest of the game. You do not need to repeat the interrogation each time you load the save.

WB Games Support summarizes the opt-out behavior plainly: “If you do not wish to confirm actions taken in previous games, you can select ‘No’ and the conversation will not happen.” That choice is useful when you prefer the default continuity or want to avoid spoilers.

The five questions, with the correct way to think about each

Witcher 2 decision What Morvran is establishing What to select
Aryan La Valette Whether Aryan was killed or spared during the La Valette events Match Aryan’s fate in your completed game
Roche or Iorveth Which major faction Geralt supported Select Roche or Iorveth according to your path
The Triss decision Whether Geralt helped the chosen faction or rescued Triss instead Choose the action you took during the crisis
Síle de Tansarville Whether Síle was saved or allowed to die Match her final fate
Letho Whether the kingslayer survived Select survived or did not survive

The wording can differ slightly by language or release, but the underlying flags are these five. Treat the answers as historical facts about your Geralt, not as predictions about what will produce the most rewards.

Aryan La Valette: killed or spared

This question records the outcome of Geralt’s first major confrontation with Aryan La Valette. If you spared Aryan, select the spared outcome; if you killed him, select the killed outcome. The choice primarily supplies continuity for later references to the La Valette family and the political circumstances around the opening of The Witcher 3.

If you are rebuilding a specific save, use the actual result rather than the decision you intended to make. A last-minute dialogue choice, a failed rescue attempt, or a reload can leave the game with a different state than you remember planning.

Roche or Iorveth: choose the path you played

Geralt’s allegiance in The Witcher 2 is represented by Vernon Roche or Iorveth. Select Roche if you followed Roche and the Temerian-aligned route; select Iorveth if you followed the Scoia’tael-led route. This is a faction flag, not a declaration that Geralt permanently joined an organization.

The flag mainly affects how people describe Geralt’s past and which political context characters assume. It is important for continuity, but it does not replace the main structure of The Witcher 3 with a separate Roche campaign or Iorveth campaign.

The Triss rescue question

Morvran asks about the critical point where Geralt could help his chosen faction or divert his effort to rescue Triss. Answer for the action that actually occurred in your playthrough. Do not infer the answer from whether Triss was eventually present in your ending; the simulation is asking about the decision made during that specific crisis.

If your memory is uncertain, decide which version of Geralt you want to carry forward: one who stayed with the faction’s objective or one who put Triss’s rescue first. The flag is used for later dialogue and references rather than a wholesale rewrite of the new game’s central plot.

Síle de Tansarville: saved or allowed to die

Select saved if Geralt prevented Síle’s death, and select allowed to die if he did not. This is another continuity marker tied to the surviving members of the Lodge of Sorceresses and the consequences of the second game’s finale.

There is no gameplay advantage to choosing the supposedly kinder answer. The useful answer is the one that matches your established story, especially if you are replaying to see how characters acknowledge the same Geralt across both games.

Letho: the decision with the clearest gameplay consequence

Choose survived when Letho lived through your Witcher 2 story. Choose did not survive when Geralt killed him or his death was otherwise established. This flag can enable the Ghosts of the Past quest or encounter in The Witcher 3; the opposite state removes that branch.

Because Letho is the only one of the five decisions identified with a distinct later quest branch, confirm this answer carefully. If you want to experience Ghosts of the Past, the simulated state must have Letho alive. That is a spoiler-sensitive choice, so players discovering the story for the first time may prefer to answer from memory and let the consequence unfold naturally.

What changes when simulation is on

Simulation gives you control over all five flags. The practical result is a more faithful continuation when you remember your old decisions, or a deliberate role-playing setup when you do not. Most effects appear as altered greetings, lines of dialogue, references to earlier events, and changes in the political background that characters describe.

Letho is the exception in scale: his survival can unlock Ghosts of the Past, while the non-survival state removes that content. The other four flags are chiefly continuity details. They can change how a meeting is framed or what a character says without creating an alternate main-campaign route.

Comparison point Simulation on Simulation off
Control over continuity flags You set Aryan, faction, Triss, Síle, and Letho states during Imperial Audience. The game uses its default assumptions.
Letho-related content Can preserve the state that enables Ghosts of the Past. You accept the default Letho state rather than selecting it in the interrogation.
Dialogue and references Earlier choices can be reflected in greetings, explanations, and political context. Those references follow the preset world-state.
Platform support Works as the supported console method and as a deliberate PC fallback. Works on any platform, but without manual confirmation of the five choices.
Spoiler exposure Morvran names the five historical decisions and can reveal the Letho-related possibility. The interrogation is skipped.

Should you simulate a Witcher 2 save?

Use simulation when you want continuity control

  • You are playing on a console, where direct import is not available.
  • You remember your Witcher 2 choices and want them represented accurately.
  • You are replaying The Witcher 3 with a deliberately different Geralt.
  • You want to ensure that Letho’s survival state is set intentionally.

Leave it off when you prefer defaults or fewer spoilers

  • You do not care which minor continuity details are used.
  • You would rather not hear a recap of Witcher 2 events in Vizima.
  • You are starting the series with The Witcher 3 and want to avoid being prompted about outcomes you have not seen.

Neither setting is required for understanding the main story. Simulation is most valuable to returning players who regard Geralt’s previous decisions as part of the character they are continuing.

If you do not remember your Witcher 2 choices

  1. Prioritize Letho. Decide whether you want the possibility of Ghosts of the Past; this is the flag with the clearest content consequence.
  2. Reconstruct your faction path. Remember whether Roche or Iorveth was your principal ally. If you cannot recall, choose the political outlook that best fits your Geralt.
  3. Use your role-playing principles. For Aryan, the Triss decision, and Síle, select the outcome consistent with how you usually played Geralt rather than trying to optimize an unlisted reward.
  4. Accept that small differences are intentional. The purpose of these answers is to make the world acknowledge a past, not to create a superior build or ending.

There is no requirement to have played The Witcher 2. The questions are optional continuity prompts, and the game remains playable with its defaults. New players can turn simulation off, or choose answers that establish the backstory they want to explore.

Troubleshooting the setup

The interrogation never appears

Check that simulation was enabled when the new game was created. If you selected No, the game intentionally skips the conversation, as confirmed by WB Games Support. Loading an earlier save from before the new game was configured will not add the interrogation to a run that was started with simulation disabled.

You expected a save-import prompt on console

That behavior is not supported. CD PROJEKT RED states that console versions cannot import The Witcher 2 saves directly; simulation is the available route. Start a new game with the option enabled instead of searching console storage for a Witcher 2 file.

You selected the wrong answer

The answers are part of the world-state established in that conversation. To change them reliably, return to a save made before the interrogation and replay the dialogue. If no such save exists, beginning a new game is the dependable way to configure the flags again.

Your edition or patch behaves differently

Verify the platform, edition, and installed update. Official product information groups the two expansions with the Complete Edition and describes current-generation support, while platform behavior can change between releases. Keep the game updated and consult the current support information for your specific platform before assuming a missing option is a bug.

A spoiler-conscious way to configure a first playthrough

If you are new to the series, simulation off is the simplest route because it removes the interrogation and avoids naming past outcomes. If you are comfortable with a small amount of backstory, enable simulation and answer according to the kind of Geralt you want to play. The only answer with a clearly identified quest-content effect is Letho’s survival; the remaining answers mainly shape continuity dialogue and political context.

Returning players can instead treat the interrogation as a checklist: Aryan, faction, Triss, Síle, then Letho. Write down your intended states before starting if you are recreating a particular old save. That prevents a rushed dialogue choice from producing a different continuity than the one you meant to continue.
