To recruit Mazus in Suikoden II, first liberate Greenhill, make sure your castle has reached level 4, then find and speak to him in the Tinto Mines. One recruitment list also specifies at least 100 recruits; because the other reviewed guides do not confirm that threshold, treat it as an extra check if Mazus is unavailable.
Where to find Mazus
Mazus is in the Tinto Mines. The available recruitment guides place him somewhere deep in the mines but do not agree on, or establish, a specific floor or room. Explore the mines until you find him.
Requirements before you go
- Story progress: Liberate Greenhill first.
- Castle level: Your headquarters must be level 4, according to the Gensopedia and Game8 recruitment guides. Gensopedia’s Suikoden II recruitment guide and Game8’s recruitment guide list this condition.
- Recruit count: The Suikoden Wikia recruitment list says you need at least 100 recruits. The other reviewed guides do not corroborate that exact number, so regard it as a troubleshooting check rather than a firmly confirmed requirement. Suikoden Wikia’s recruitment list gives the threshold.
Recruit Mazus
- Complete the Greenhill liberation sequence.
- Check that your castle is level 4.
- Travel to the Tinto Mines and explore until you encounter Mazus; no specific route is established by the reviewed guides.
- Speak with Mazus to recruit him.
If Mazus is not available
Recheck that Greenhill has been liberated and that your castle has reached level 4. If those conditions are met, check your recruit total as well: one list calls for at least 100 recruits, though that figure is not repeated by the other reviewed guides.
The reviewed sources do not establish whether Mazus’s requirements differ between the original release and Suikoden I & II HD Remaster.
