Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo recruit an enemy monster in Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, use Entice, a Speechcraft ability available to an Orator or a unit with Speechcraft equipped, and target an eligible monster during battle. Not every creature needs to be recruited this way: some story or quest monsters, including Boco and Byblos, are reported to join automatically.
Recruit a monster with Entice
- Give a unit access to Speechcraft. An Orator can use the ability set, or another job can use Speechcraft if the unit has it equipped.
- Enter a battle with a monster you want to recruit. The available guide excerpt does not document every eligible target or any target restrictions.
- Select Entice and target the monster. This is the active-battle recruitment method described in Game8’s guide for The Ivalice Chronicles (Game8 guide).
Entice is not documented here as a guaranteed success. No verified success rate, range, or complete eligibility list is available, so do not assume that every attempt will work or that every monster can be recruited this way.

Some story creatures join automatically
Game8’s guide excerpt names Boco and Byblos as story or quest creatures that join automatically, without needing Speechcraft. Those examples are not established as a complete list. Automatic story recruitment is separate from using Entice on an enemy during battle.

The same guide excerpt recommends Beast Tongue as a support ability and reports that a unit’s Magick Attack affects recruitment. The exact effect and formula are not confirmed in the accessible guide material, so treat this as reported build advice rather than a precise mechanic. It does not establish an optimal stat threshold, equipment setup, or success percentage.

Does recruitment differ between editions?
Square Enix confirms that Chocobos and other creatures can be tamed and led into battle (Square Enix: Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles). The publisher describes two editions, but does not identify a difference in monster recruitment rules:
| Edition | Publisher-described differences | Recruitment mechanics |
|---|---|---|
| Enhanced | Improved graphics, voiced dialogue, refined gameplay, and a Squire difficulty setting | No edition-specific difference stated by Square Enix |
| Classic | Original 1997 graphics and gameplay, with the War of the Lions translation | No edition-specific difference stated by Square Enix |
These are presentation and gameplay-version descriptions, not evidence that Entice works differently between editions.
