First check which card you have: a V-Bucks Card adds the printed amount of V-Bucks to an Epic account, while the newer Fortnite Gift Card adds money to that account’s Epic balance. They use different redemption pages. The steps below cover both, including the extra code required for Xbox and PlayStation and why balance-funded V-Bucks cannot be spent on Nintendo Switch.
Identify your card before redeeming it
Epic is replacing V-Bucks Cards with Fortnite Gift Cards, though older V-Bucks Cards may remain available in some regions or local retailers during the rollout. Check the value printed on the card and use the matching redemption flow.

Redeem a V-Bucks Card
- Sign in to the Epic account linked to the Fortnite profile that should receive the V-Bucks. If Epic asks you to sign in through a console, use that console account. Check that the Epic display name matches the name you see in Fortnite.
- Open Epic’s V-Bucks Card page and select Get Started.
- Gently scratch the PIN panel so you do not damage the code. Enter the PIN without dashes, then continue.
- Select the platform you want to receive the V-Bucks. If it is not listed, check that you signed into the Epic account linked to that platform.
- Before confirming, review the Epic account, selected platform or device, and resulting V-Bucks balance.
- Confirm the redemption. For PC, Switch, or mobile, Epic says you can then launch Fortnite and spend the V-Bucks. Xbox and PlayStation require the additional code step below.
Keep the retailer receipt until redemption is complete; Epic Support may ask for it if there is a problem.

- If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts
- Requires internet connection, valid Epic account and prior acceptance of the terms

Finish redemption on Xbox or PlayStation
After you confirm the V-Bucks Card redemption, Epic generates a secondary code—12 or 25 characters—and emails it to you. Sign in to the Microsoft or Sony account linked to your Epic account and redeem that code through the relevant platform.
If you cannot find the email, sign in to Epic and open Account Settings > Transactions > V-Bucks Card Redemption. Epic says redeemed cards and their secondary codes appear there. See Epic’s missing secondary-code guidance.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

Redeem a Fortnite Gift Card
- Scan the card’s QR code or open Epic’s gift-card redemption page. Enter the card code if prompted.
- Sign in to the Epic account—or console account—that should receive the value. Confirm the account details carefully; link additional accounts if Epic prompts you to do so.
- Review the redemption details and select Redeem now. The card’s value is added to your Epic account balance.
- Use that balance at an Epic-supported checkout to buy V-Bucks or another eligible item, such as Fortnite Crew or a pack. Available purchases depend on platform and account restrictions.
Gift Cards are currency-specific: the card’s currency must match the currency of the Epic account balance. Availability varies by region and may change as rollout continues, so check Epic’s current Gift Card FAQ and the currency printed on the card before buying. The FAQ also covers how to redeem a Fortnite Gift Card and what you can purchase with one.

Fortnite on Nintendo Switch does not support Shared Wallet. As a result, V-Bucks purchased using Epic account balance cannot be spent on Switch. Epic’s alternatives are to use the web Item Shop or spend the V-Bucks on another linked platform that supports Shared Wallet, such as PlayStation, Xbox, PC, mobile, or cloud gaming. Items purchased with V-Bucks appear in the Locker across linked platforms. See Epic’s Nintendo Switch guidance.

If a card does not redeem or the V-Bucks are missing
- Check the card type: a V-Bucks Card PIN belongs on the V-Bucks Card page; a Fortnite Gift Card code belongs in the Gift Card flow.
- Check the account: make sure you are signed in to the Epic account linked to the intended Fortnite profile and platform.
- Check the V-Bucks PIN: enter it without dashes, and ensure the scratch-off panel has not obscured or damaged the code.
- Check the platform and balance: review the details on the confirmation screen before finalizing.
- For Xbox or PlayStation, complete the second step: redeem the generated code through Microsoft or Sony. If the message is missing, look under Account Settings > Transactions > V-Bucks Card Redemption.
- If the code still fails, keep the receipt and contact Epic Support. Epic’s support pages for V-Bucks Card redemption and missing console codes outline the relevant steps.
Can you give V-Bucks to someone else?
Epic says V-Bucks cannot be bought as a gift through the Epic online store. To give someone V-Bucks, buy a physical V-Bucks Card from a participating retailer, if one is available, and have the recipient redeem it on their own Epic account. See Epic’s gifting guidance.
