How to Redeem a V-Bucks Card on Nintendo Switch

Use Epic’s V-Bucks card flow, select Nintendo Switch, and verify the linked Epic account before confirming. Fortnite gift cards work differently and do not add V-Bucks to the Switch balance.

To put V-Bucks on your Nintendo Switch, redeem a V-Bucks card through Epic Games and select Nintendo Switch as the device. Make sure the Epic account shown is the one connected to your Switch Fortnite profile before confirming. A Fortnite gift card follows a different process and does not add spendable V-Bucks to the Switch balance.

Redeem a V-Bucks card for Nintendo Switch

  1. Sign in to the Epic Games account linked to the Fortnite profile you use on Switch. If you are unsure which account is linked, check before redeeming; the redemption page only lists devices linked to the account you are signed into.
  2. Open Epic’s V-Bucks card redemption instructions and select Get Started to begin the card flow.
  3. Enter the PIN from the card. Leave out any dashes shown in the code.
  4. Select Nintendo Switch from the platform list.
  5. Review the Epic account, device, and new V-Bucks balance shown on screen. Confirm only if all three are correct. Keep the purchase receipt in case Epic Support needs it.
  6. Launch Fortnite on your Switch and spend the redeemed V-Bucks.

Epic’s card instructions say that V-Bucks redeemed to a Switch can be spent by launching Fortnite on that device. See Epic’s current V-Bucks card help page for its card and regional availability information.

What to do if Nintendo Switch is missing from the platform list

Epic says the list shows only devices linked to the Epic account currently signed in. Check that you have the correct Epic account and that your Nintendo account or device is linked to it. Don’t confirm a redemption while the displayed account or device is wrong.

V-Bucks cards and Fortnite gift cards are different

What you have What redemption adds How it relates to Switch
V-Bucks card A stated amount of V-Bucks; the code is entered in Epic’s V-Bucks card flow. Select Nintendo Switch during redemption to put the V-Bucks on the Switch balance.
Fortnite gift card Money in your Epic account balance; redeem it through Epic’s gift-card redemption page. It can fund a V-Bucks purchase, but Epic says Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet. Epic-balance V-Bucks can be spent in the web Item Shop; items purchased there appear on linked Nintendo devices.

Both legacy V-Bucks cards and Fortnite gift cards have 16-digit codes, according to Epic, but the code length does not make their redemption flows interchangeable. A V-Bucks card is for V-Bucks only; a Fortnite gift card credits an Epic account balance. Epic says V-Bucks cards are being replaced by Fortnite gift cards, though V-Bucks cards may remain available in some regions or at local retailers during the rollout. Check the product and regional availability before buying.

Which V-Bucks purchases work on Switch?

For V-Bucks you want to spend on Switch, Epic lists the Switch in-game Item Shop and redeeming a V-Bucks card to Switch as options. Nintendo also directs players to buy V-Bucks directly through Nintendo eShop for use in Fortnite on Switch. V-Bucks bought through the Epic Store or on another platform will not appear on Switch. See Epic’s Nintendo Switch purchase guidance and Nintendo Support’s Fortnite gift-card guidance.

The key distinction is whether you want V-Bucks available to spend on the Switch itself or an item that will show up there. Epic says V-Bucks purchased or redeemed on a Nintendo device can only be spent on that device. By contrast, Epic-balance V-Bucks can be used in the web Item Shop, and the items bought there appear on linked Nintendo devices. Epic explains the Nintendo balance limitation in its Epic Balance and V-Bucks support article.
