YouTube Live Redirect does not keep an ending livestream running. It hands viewers off when that stream ends to a Premiere or another channel’s live stream. To send viewers to a 24/7 broadcast, first start a separate continuous stream, then set your event’s redirect to that destination. The sending channel must meet YouTube’s eligibility rules, and the destination channel must allow the redirect.
What Live Redirect does—and what it does not
YouTube’s Live Redirect is an end-of-stream handoff: when the source stream ends, viewers can be sent to a Premiere or another channel’s live stream. It does not convert the source event into an indefinitely running broadcast, nor does it create the destination stream for you.
Think of the setup as three separate parts: your event is the source; a separately operated stream is the destination; and Live Redirect connects them at the moment your event ends. YouTube says autoplay moves viewers to the Premiere or live stream you chose. Viewers may need a few seconds for their screens to reload.
Check eligibility and destination permission
- Sending channel: YouTube requires more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes for Live Redirect.
- Receiving channel: If the destination is another channel’s live stream, that channel must permit your channel to redirect to its live content. The destination owner can manage this in YouTube Studio under Settings → Community. YouTube documents permission for subscribed channels, all channels, or specified channels; the specified-channel list can include up to 100 channels.
- Live-streaming access: YouTube’s getting-started guide says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days to enable livestreaming.
- Format: Live Redirect is available for horizontal live streams, not vertical live feeds, according to YouTube’s feature table in the getting-started guide.
YouTube’s account-level eligibility and interface can change, so check the current Help pages and the options shown in your Studio account if a setting is missing.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Start the 24/7 destination before configuring the handoff
The continuous destination needs its own video feed. YouTube’s encoder directory describes software encoders, standalone hardware encoders, and cloud tools. Its directory describes Gyre as a cloud tool for 24/7 live streaming of prerecorded videos and Upstream as a cloud studio for 24/7 live video streaming. Those directory descriptions identify types of options; they do not establish uptime, comparative reliability, or that any service fits your workflow. Check each provider’s current terms, monitoring and recovery controls, and any published status or uptime information.
- Local software encoder: You operate the encoder on a computer. You retain control over the setup, but the computer, encoder, and internet connection must keep operating for the destination to continue.
- Dedicated hardware encoder: YouTube lists the AJA HELO Plus as a standalone H.264 encoder for direct YouTube Live streaming. It may suit a dedicated production setup, but it is not required for Live Redirect; YouTube’s listing does not promise uninterrupted broadcasting.
- Cloud continuous-streaming service: A cloud service can run a continuous feed without relying on your home computer staying on. Check that it supports your intended content source and has the controls and service terms you need.
For a conventional encoder workflow, create or select a stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder, start the encoder, and wait for its preview before going live in the Control Room. Treat the stream key like a password. YouTube documents reusing stream settings and keys when creating another stream; keep the key private and use the preview and stream-health indicators to check the feed.

Set up Live Redirect in YouTube Studio
- Confirm the sending channel meets the subscriber and strike requirements, and get permission from the destination channel if the destination is its live stream.
- Start the destination stream separately and confirm it is live. For another channel’s stream, verify that it is available to select as the destination.
- In YouTube Studio, open Content, then select the Live tab.
- Hover over the source livestream, select Edit, then open Customization.
- Under Redirect, click Add. Choose a Premiere or search for another channel’s live stream, then select the intended destination.
- When you end the source livestream, follow the on-screen confirmation that viewers will be redirected. Allow a few seconds for viewers’ screens to reload.
YouTube’s documented live-stream destination is another channel’s live stream; do not assume Studio will offer a same-channel stream as the destination. Available choices can depend on the account and current Studio interface.
Limits and operating details to plan around
- Concurrent streams: YouTube documents a limit of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. Both limits apply at once. See Get started with live streaming.
- Creating streams: YouTube also documents a daily limit on how many streams a channel can create in 24 hours, but its error guidance does not give a fixed number. If you hit that limit, follow the message shown in Studio rather than relying on an assumed quota.
- Archives: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. This is an archiving rule, not a promise that longer streams are prohibited or that a stream will remain live indefinitely.
- Ingest format and failover: YouTube’s error guidance identifies H.264 video and AAC audio for proper ingestion and points creators to its encoder settings for bitrate and resolution requirements. If using encoder failover, match the backup stream’s settings.
- Monitoring: Check the preview, test the encoder setup, and monitor audio and video quality. Neither a redirect nor an encoder listing guarantees a particular stream will avoid interruptions.
Troubleshooting a missing redirect or failed handoff
- Redirect option is absent: Check that the sending channel has more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes; confirm you are editing a horizontal live stream and are in Content → Live → Edit → Customization.
- Destination channel does not appear: Ask its owner to allow your channel under Settings → Community. Confirm the destination is actually live, or use an eligible Premiere instead.
- Destination stream will not start: Check the stream key and URL, confirm the encoder is running, and wait for a preview in the Live Control Room before going live. Keep the key private; if it may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Encoder reports an ingestion error: Check YouTube’s live-streaming error guidance, including H.264 video, AAC audio, and the recommended bitrate and resolution settings for your chosen stream. Ensure a failover encoder matches the primary stream settings.
- Stream or redirect capacity error: Review the active-stream limits and the daily creation-limit message. Stop unused active streams where appropriate; the daily creation limit has no fixed number stated in the cited guidance.
- Viewers do not appear to move instantly: YouTube’s handoff can take a few seconds while viewers’ screens reload. Tell viewers in advance that a brief reload is expected.

A technically valid stream and redirect do not grant rights to the video or audio you broadcast. Before setting a playlist to repeat, make sure you have permission to stream every included recording, track, performance, and other protected material on YouTube. Review YouTube’s copyright notices and restrictions for the content you plan to use, and check the channel’s monetization and reused-content implications separately; the Live Redirect feature itself does not establish that a loop is copyright-safe or eligible for monetization.

No. It hands viewers to a separate Premiere or another channel’s live stream when the source ends.
Can I redirect viewers to a stream on my own channel?
YouTube’s documented setup specifies a Premiere or another channel’s live stream. Do not assume a same-channel live destination will be available in Studio.
