Neither Streamlabs Desktop nor OBS Studio is proven more reliable for a 24/7 YouTube broadcast. YouTube lists both as software encoders, but neither listing is an endurance test. Choose based on your workflow and computer, then test the exact scenes, encoder, and internet connection you plan to use. For prerecorded video that must keep running without a home PC, a cloud service is a different approach.
Streamlabs Desktop vs OBS Studio: which should you choose?
Both apps can send a live encoder feed to YouTube. YouTube describes encoders as tools for managing advanced production and external audio or video hardware, and lists both OBS Studio and Streamlabs in its encoder directory. Choose OBS Studio if you want its wizard and open-source workflow
OBS offers an Auto-Configuration Wizard to help select settings based on your hardware and goals. It may be a natural choice if you already know its scene workflow or want the no-charge open-source option listed by YouTube. Neither point predicts how a particular machine will perform over a full day.

Choose Streamlabs Desktop if guided onboarding or importing helps
Streamlabs offers onboarding and says users can import OBS scenes and profiles in one click. That can reduce setup friction for a creator already using OBS. It does not establish that Streamlabs uses less system resource or recovers more reliably after a fault.
For either one, test the actual content and hardware
A game capture with animated overlays can load a computer differently from a static playlist scene. OBS warns that meeting minimum compatibility requirements is not a guarantee of streaming or recording capability. Streamlabs likewise notes workload and other running programs affect performance. Set YouTube encoder settings for a sustained connection
Use YouTube’s current encoder settings page for the codec and resolution you actually intend to send. The H.264 examples below are YouTube’s published bitrate guidance; AV1 and H.265 have different ranges, so do not apply these H.264 figures to another codec. - Test upload capacity: Run a speed test, but do not treat a single result as proof your connection will sustain the stream all day. Choose a bitrate your connection can consistently support.
- Set output explicitly: In the encoder, specify resolution, frame rate, and bitrate for the Live Control Room stream.
- Use a compatible protocol and keyframe interval: YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265, or AV1; it recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe frequency, with no more than four seconds between keyframes.
- Prefer RTMPS: YouTube recommends RTMPS because it encrypts data to and through Google’s servers.
- Test representative audio and motion: A test scene should behave like the real broadcast, including game movement, overlays, and audio. Monitor stream health and messages in Live Control Room.
YouTube can transcode an incoming stream into multiple output formats. A higher source setting is not automatically better if the upload link or computer cannot sustain it.

YouTube recommends testing and monitoring, but its documentation does not promise that either desktop application will automatically recover from every network, encoder, or power failure. Before leaving a stream unattended, test the exact setup for several hours and observe:
- Stream-health warnings and dropped frames in YouTube Live Control Room.
- CPU/GPU load, encoder overload messages, heat, and whether the machine remains responsive.
- Audio continuity, including whether sources remain active and levels stay appropriate.
- Disk usage if recording locally, plus what happens when storage fills or a recording file is split.
- Recovery after a controlled network interruption, including whether the stream reconnects and resumes as expected.
For a wired connection, Streamlabs recommends Ethernet. Ethernet may avoid some local Wi-Fi instability, but it cannot resolve ISP congestion, upstream outages, or power cuts. The cited guidance does not require Cat6 specifically.

Will YouTube save a 24/7 livestream?
Do not count on a complete YouTube replay of one uninterrupted 24/7 event. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, recommends keeping a local recording backup, and warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” If discrete replays matter, plan shorter sessions and test local recording, available disk space, and file rotation. Does running a 24/7 stream make it eligible for monetization?
No. Duration and watch time do not guarantee YouTube Partner Program approval or revenue. YouTube’s monetization policy applies to live streams and expects original, authentic content. Its July 15, 2025 clarification renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and explains that repetitive or mass-produced content may be ineligible. Reused content is assessed separately; having permission does not necessarily settle reused-content eligibility. A static or repetitive loop should not be treated as automatically monetizable. For India, check YouTube’s India-region earnings information for current program and feature-specific conditions. The page lists ad revenue eligibility as 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the prior 365 days or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the prior 90 days, alongside other requirements. India-specific considerations
The encoder comparison itself does not change for Indian creators in the documentation cited here. There is no verified India-specific bitrate or OBS-versus-Streamlabs performance advantage in these sources, and they do not establish reliability for a particular Indian ISP, city, or power supply. Test from the location and network that will run the channel. Check YouTube’s India-region YPP terms separately if monetization is part of the plan.
Alternatives for continuous prerecorded video
If the goal is to loop uploaded videos continuously rather than produce a live camera or gameplay show from a desktop, the method matters as much as the encoder.
