To redownload desktop Outlook, go to m365.cloud.microsoft/apps, sign in with the Microsoft account or work or school account linked to your Microsoft 365 or Office license, choose Install apps, select Microsoft 365 apps, and run the installer. Outlook is normally included with that Microsoft 365 or Office installation rather than downloaded as a separate classic-Outlook program. On a phone or tablet, install the official Outlook app from the device’s app store.
The correct procedure depends on your device, the type of Office license you have, and whether you want classic Outlook, the newer Outlook app, or a mobile installation. Reinstalling the application is also different from restoring every local Outlook profile, cache, or PST file.

What “redownload Outlook” can mean
People use this phrase for several different tasks:
- Reinstalling classic Outlook that came with Microsoft 365 or Office on Windows or Mac.
- Installing or accessing the newer Outlook app on Windows.
- Reinstalling Outlook for Mac after deleting or replacing Office.
- Installing Outlook on an iPhone, iPad, or Android phone or tablet.
- Putting Outlook back after a Windows push-button reset.
- Recovering when the installer is missing, the license is not recognized, or the installation failed.
Start by identifying the platform and license. A personal Microsoft 365 subscription, a work or school assignment, a redeemed product key, and a volume-license installation can each use a different sign-in or installation process.

Before you download anything
Find the account that owns the license
For a personal subscription or retail purchase, use the Microsoft account associated with the subscription or the product key you redeemed. For work or school, use the organizational account assigned the Microsoft 365 license. Signing in with a different account can make Outlook appear unavailable even when Office is legitimately licensed.
Check whether desktop apps are included
A work or school administrator must assign a plan that includes desktop apps, and your organization may restrict installation. If your plan is browser-only or your administrator has disabled self-service installation, the Install apps control may not appear.
Have the product key or organization instructions ready
If you have an unused product key, redeem it through Microsoft’s official setup process before attempting the normal reinstall flow. Volume-license and some stand-alone Office editions can use an organization-specific installer and activation method; your IT department or seller is the correct source for those instructions.

Reinstalling Office does not make a universal promise to restore every local Outlook profile, cached message, account setting, or PST file. If you still have access to Outlook, note your account details and locate any PST files you intentionally use before uninstalling. Keep an independent backup of important local mail and attachments.

Redownload Outlook on Windows or Mac
- Open the Microsoft 365 apps page. In a browser, go to m365.cloud.microsoft/apps and select Sign in.
- Use the licensed account. Enter the personal Microsoft account or work or school account tied to your Office entitlement. Do not use a different personal account simply because it is already signed in to the browser.
- Open the installation controls. Select Install apps. With some work or school accounts, you must first select Apps in the left navigation pane and then choose Install apps.
- Choose the Office package. Select Microsoft 365 apps, or the installation option displayed for your licensed product. Classic Outlook is delivered as part of this desktop package.
- Run the installer. Open the downloaded installer and allow it to make changes when the operating system asks. Leave the device connected to the internet while the Office components are downloaded and configured.
- Finish activation. Start Outlook after setup completes. Sign in when prompted with the same account used to install Office, then add or select the mailbox you want to use.
The labels can vary slightly between a personal account portal and an organizational portal, but the sequence remains account sign-in, Install apps, product selection, installer, and activation.
Windows-specific notes
On Windows, Outlook may be listed among the installed Microsoft 365 applications after the suite finishes. If a previous Office installation is still present, the installer may repair or update that installation instead of creating a second copy. Avoid running installers from unofficial download sites; use the Microsoft account portal associated with your license.
Mac-specific notes
On Mac, run the downloaded Office package and complete the same account-based activation. Outlook for Mac is part of the desktop Office experience, but its interface and account prompts differ from Windows. If the Mac installer says your account is not entitled to desktop apps, verify the subscription or ask your organization’s administrator before trying another installer.

Choose 32-bit or 64-bit Office carefully
Microsoft states that the 64-bit version is installed by default unless Microsoft 365 or Office detects an existing 32-bit version of Microsoft 365 or Office, or a stand-alone app such as Project or Visio. The installer therefore may not offer the architecture you expected when another Office component is already installed.

When the architecture matters
Stay with the architecture already used by your Office installation when compatibility with older add-ins or stand-alone Office applications is important. If you specifically need to change architecture, plan for a complete Office removal first rather than installing the other bitness over the top.
Switching from 32-bit to 64-bit, or the reverse
- Back up local Outlook data and record any add-ins or account settings you need to recreate.
- Uninstall Microsoft 365 or Office, including stand-alone Microsoft 365 apps and any conflicting Project or Visio installation.
- Return to m365.cloud.microsoft/apps and sign in with the licensed account.
- Select Install apps, choose the available architecture option, and run the new installer.
- Open Outlook, activate it with the licensed account, and reinstall only add-ins that support the new architecture.
Removing Office first is required by Microsoft’s documented architecture-change procedure. Do not assume that changing a Windows system setting will convert an installed Office package.

If there is no Install apps button
Microsoft says a missing installation control can indicate an account or licensing problem. First sign out of other Microsoft accounts in the browser and sign back in with the account that owns the license. For work or school, ask the administrator to confirm that desktop apps are included and assigned to you. If the entitlement is correct but the control remains absent, use the support or help options on the Microsoft download page.
Restore Outlook after a Windows push-button reset
A Windows push-button reset can remove Outlook, Access, Publisher, or other Office components. Microsoft’s remedy is not a special recovery copy of Outlook; it is the standard Microsoft 365 or Office reinstall procedure:

- Open m365.cloud.microsoft/apps.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account or work or school account that held the Office license before the reset.
- Select Install apps, choose Microsoft 365 apps or the licensed product option, and run the installer.
- Launch Outlook and complete activation and account setup.
The reset and reinstall steps do not establish that every local Outlook cache, profile, or PST file will return automatically. If a local data file is missing after the reset, look for a backup or contact your organization’s administrator rather than assuming another reinstall will recreate it.
Install Outlook on an iPhone, iPad, or Android device
- Open the official app store for your device: the App Store on iPhone or iPad, or Google Play on Android.
- Search for the official Outlook app listing and verify the publisher information before installing.
- Install the app, open it, and sign in with the Microsoft account, work or school account, or supported third-party mailbox you want to use.
- Complete the app’s notification, calendar, and account permissions according to your preferences.
Microsoft describes Outlook as available for iOS and Android and supports many third-party accounts, including Gmail, Yahoo, and iCloud. The mobile app is a separate installation from desktop Microsoft 365 Outlook, so installing it does not reinstall Outlook on a Windows PC or Mac.

“Outlook” can refer to classic Outlook included in Microsoft 365 or Office, or the newer Outlook app experience on Windows. The desktop Microsoft 365 installation path above is the documented route for reinstalling classic Outlook with Office. If your organization or Microsoft account presents a newer Outlook option, follow the install or switch controls shown in that account or Windows experience rather than deleting Office files manually.

A cloud mailbox, a local cached profile, and a PST archive are different data locations. Reinstalling an app does not by itself prove that all three will be restored in the same state.

What to do when installation fails
The installer downloads but will not run
- Confirm that the download completed and that you are running the installer from the account portal, not an old or unofficial copy.
- Restart Windows or macOS, then run the installer again while connected to the internet.
- Remove conflicting or partially installed Office components if the installer reports an existing installation problem.
- For a work or school device, check whether administrator rights or organizational software restrictions are blocking installation.
Outlook installs but will not activate
- Open an Office application and sign out of unrelated Microsoft accounts.
- Sign in with the account that owns the subscription, redeemed the product key, or received the organizational assignment.
- Ask your administrator to verify that the license includes desktop apps and has been assigned to your account.
- If the account is correct and activation still fails, use Microsoft’s guided support and installation troubleshooters from the download or help page.
There is no Outlook after installation
Check whether the installation was the licensed Microsoft 365 package rather than a browser-only product or a different stand-alone edition. Search the installed Microsoft 365 applications and start Outlook from there. If the package completed but Outlook is absent, run the official installer again or use Microsoft’s repair and installation support options.
Your mail or folders are missing
Separate the application problem from the data problem. Reinstalling Outlook gives you the program; it does not make a universal restoration promise for every local profile, cache, or PST. Sign in to the correct mailbox, reconnect any required account, and locate or restore local data from a known backup. On a managed device, your administrator may control profile creation and archive locations.

Verify the reinstall
- Open Outlook without an installer error.
- Confirm that Office shows the expected signed-in account and activation status.
- Check that the intended mailbox is present and that send and receive operations work.
- Review calendars, contacts, and any local archives separately; their presence depends on the account and data location, not just the application reinstall.
- Reinstall only compatible add-ins after the base Outlook installation is stable.
If the official account, license, platform, and installer checks do not resolve the problem, continue with Microsoft’s guided support and installation troubleshooters or your organization’s IT support. A different download source cannot fix an account that lacks the required entitlement.
