You can reduce gambling-ad exposure by turning off Google’s Gambling sensitive-ad topic for your signed-in account, then hiding or reporting individual ads on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok where those controls are available. No documented setting here guarantees a complete block across all three platforms.

Reduce gambling-topic ads on YouTube and other Google services
Google’s Gambling preference is the broadest topic-level control covered here. It applies to Google services—including Search, YouTube, and Discover—when you are signed in to the Google account whose preference you change.

- Select Customize Ads.
- Open Sensitive, find Gambling, and turn it off.
Google says sensitive topics are allowed by default and that your choice is saved automatically. The company introduced gambling as an additional category people could limit in a December 10, 2020 announcement. Google’s announcement.

Why gambling ads may still appear
Google calls this a best-effort reduction, not a ban. An ad may still mention gambling because of its context, or because a search related to gambling can lead to related ads. The setting is intended to reduce ads about the selected topic, not to guarantee that every relevant ad is suppressed. Google explains the limits of sensitive-topic controls.
Block or report an individual YouTube ad
If a gambling ad appears in YouTube, use the controls on that ad rather than looking for creator-side settings.
- On the ad, select More or Info.
- Select Block ad to ask YouTube not to show that individual ad again, when the option is available.
YouTube says this individual-ad block is available when you have chosen to customize ads in My Ad Center. You can also report an ad you dislike or believe is inappropriate or policy-violating. YouTube’s instructions for managing ads.
A YouTube paid membership may provide an ad-free YouTube experience, but it does not address ads in Instagram or TikTok. YouTube Studio’s ad-category and URL blocking tools are for creators managing ads on their own channels, not viewers trying to change the ads they see; creator blocks also have inventory limitations. Hide or report gambling ads on Instagram
Instagram’s ad interface includes Hide Ad and Report Ad controls, and Accounts Center includes ad preferences. The exact menu labels, paths, and available topic choices can vary, so use the controls visible in your current app rather than relying on a fixed tap sequence. - On an individual gambling ad, choose Hide Ad to remove that creative from your feed, if offered.
- Choose Report Ad if you believe the ad is inappropriate or violates a rule.
- Review ad preferences in Accounts Center for any relevant topic options shown for your account.
A gambling-specific ad-topic switch is not confirmed as available to every Instagram user or in every region. Do not assume that hiding one ad prevents other gambling ads from appearing.

TikTok’s documented ad tools let users personalize their ad experience, control whether data shared by advertising partners about off-TikTok activity is used for personalization, and hide ads from specific advertisers that recently showed them an ad. These are personalization and advertiser-level controls, not a documented general ban on gambling ads. TikTok Business Resource Centre’s February 2025 description.
If a gambling ad appears, open TikTok’s current ad-preference controls and look for the option to hide ads from that advertiser, when available. Menu names and availability can change; the cited TikTok description does not establish a universal gambling-topic switch.
Manage topics does not block ads
TikTok’s Manage topics feature adjusts topics in the For You feed. TikTok describes it as feed-content personalization, not an ad-blocking setting. TikTok Help: Manage topics.

What to do if the controls do not remove an ad
- Check the right Google account. The Gambling preference applies to Google services while signed in, so confirm you changed it on the account you use for YouTube.
- Use the individual-ad action as well. Google’s topic preference is best effort; use YouTube’s Block ad, or Instagram and TikTok’s hide/report or advertiser controls when shown.
- Do not mistake feed settings for ad settings. TikTok Manage topics tunes For You content, while YouTube Studio controls affect creators’ own ad inventory.
