The fastest supported way to improve Roblox performance on Windows is to lower the in-game graphics level, close resource-heavy programs, and determine whether the problem is actually FPS-related. Roblox lag is not one single problem: network lag makes players warp or actions arrive late, graphics lag causes stuttering and choppy images, and system lag occurs when other applications consume too many resources.
Use the troubleshooting order below. Start with Roblox’s graphics settings, then check Windows and your hardware. If other players teleport while your frame rate is stable, skip the FPS fixes and troubleshoot your network instead.

First, identify what kind of lag you have
| What you notice | Likely problem | Best first step |
|---|---|---|
| The screen stutters, freezes briefly, or looks choppy | Graphics or system lag | Lower Roblox Graphics Quality and close demanding applications |
| Other players warp, actions take a long time, or you disconnect | Network lag | Test your connection, Wi-Fi, firewall, and browser extensions |
| Only one experience performs badly | Experience-specific optimization or server issue | Compare with other experiences; settings may not fix the problem |
| Roblox crashes, shows corrupted textures, or says graphics failed to initialize | Graphics compatibility, driver, or configuration problem | Check DirectX feature levels, drivers, and Roblox graphics configuration |
Roblox itself separates network lag, graphics lag, and system lag. Lowering graphics quality helps graphics-related performance, but it cannot repair a firewall problem, unstable Wi-Fi, or a poorly optimized server-side experience.
1. Lower Roblox graphics quality
This is the most useful first change when the image stutters or your frame rate is low.

- Join a Roblox experience.
- Click the Roblox logo in the upper-left corner, or press Esc.
- Open Settings.
- Find the graphics controls. Set the graphics mode to manual control.
- Move the Graphics Quality slider to the left. Start by lowering it several levels rather than changing only one small increment.
- Select Resume, or press Esc, and test the experience again.
Roblox’s support pages use slightly different labels for this control. One page describes disabling Graphics Quality – Auto before lowering the level; the dedicated graphics page calls the selector Graphics Mode and lists Automatic and Manual. The wording can therefore vary by client or documentation version. The intended action is the same: turn off automatic graphics adjustment, choose manual control if shown, and lower the quality slider.
Lower settings reduce visual detail and reduce the amount of work your computer has to perform. The trade-off is less attractive lighting, shadows, effects, and detail. Raise the slider one step at a time after performance becomes stable if you want better image quality.
For Roblox’s official procedure, see Graphics Quality and How to Reduce Lag and Speed Up Play.

If lowering the graphics level does not help, close unwanted high-power applications. A browser with many tabs, video software, game capture, another game, or a background workload can compete with Roblox for CPU, GPU, memory, or disk resources.
- Save any work in other programs.
- Close applications you do not need while playing.
- Restart Roblox and test the same experience again.
This is especially useful when Roblox performance deteriorates while another demanding program is running. It will not fix a problem built into one experience’s scripts or assets, and it will not repair network lag.
3. Measure FPS instead of guessing
Roblox’s default client frame-rate cap is 60 FPS. On Windows, Roblox documents a maximum cap of 240 FPS, but that is only a cap—not a promise that every PC, display, or experience can sustain 240 FPS.
To see client performance while playing, press Shift + F5. This displays Roblox’s debug-statistics summary. Measure in the normal Roblox client rather than relying on Roblox Studio: Studio affects its own performance and is not an accurate substitute for the client.

A useful way to interpret the result is frame time. A frame taking longer than 16.67 milliseconds corresponds to running below 60 FPS. Occasional spikes can feel like stutter even when an average FPS number appears high.
Roblox documents the MicroProfiler for identifying frame-time spikes. It is primarily a diagnostic tool for understanding performance, not a player-side FPS booster. Do not expect opening it to increase FPS.
4. Use Windows 11 graphics options where they apply
Windows 11 includes two relevant graphics settings. They can help in particular configurations, but neither guarantees a specific FPS increase.
Enable Optimizations for windowed games
Microsoft’s windowed-game optimization targets DirectX 10 and DirectX 11 games running in windowed or borderless-windowed modes and is intended to reduce frame latency.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Open Start > Settings > System > Display > Graphics.
- Under Default settings, turn on Optimizations for windowed games.
- Restart Roblox.
Windows 11 automatically enables this optimization when Auto HDR is enabled. To turn the optimization off, you must disable Auto HDR first. The setting is not a universal Roblox FPS switch, and its relevance depends on the game’s rendering mode and your Windows configuration. See Microsoft’s Optimizations for windowed games in Windows 11 documentation.
Choose the high-performance GPU for Roblox
This option matters mainly on computers with more than one GPU—for example, a laptop with integrated graphics and a separate discrete GPU. Selecting High performance does not guarantee that FPS will rise.
- Go to Start > Settings > System > Display > Graphics.
- Under Custom options for apps, select Roblox. If it is not listed, use the option to add the Roblox application.
- Choose Options.
- Select High performance.
- Choose Save.
- Restart Roblox.
The other choices are Let Windows decide (Power saving) and Power saving. On a desktop with one GPU, or a system already using the correct discrete GPU, changing this preference may do nothing.

5. Check whether your computer meets Roblox’s Windows requirements
Current Roblox Windows support requires a 64-bit version of Windows 10 or Windows 11. Roblox does not support Linux, and newly released or prerelease operating-system versions may not be supported immediately.
Roblox requires graphics hardware with DirectX 10 or higher feature-level support. A graphics card that lacks the required feature level cannot run Roblox correctly through software tuning alone. Roblox’s listed Windows guidance also includes at least:
- 1 GB of RAM
- 300 MB of available storage for installation
- A 1.6 GHz processor or better
These are minimum requirements or guidance, not a performance guarantee for modern, graphics-heavy experiences. Roblox also notes issues with some older AMD processors.
Check DirectX feature levels with dxdiag
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
dxdiagexactly. - Press Enter and allow the diagnostic tool to load.
- Open the Display tab. If your computer has multiple displays or GPUs, also inspect Display 1 or Display 2 if present.
- On Windows 10, locate Feature Levels and check that a value of 10 or above is listed.
This is the exact Windows command documented for the graphics troubleshooting covered here. Be cautious with websites or videos promising a special command that universally unlocks FPS, clears a hidden cap, or applies a guaranteed Roblox performance configuration; no such Roblox-supported Windows command is identified in the cited documentation.
6. Repair graphics errors, corruption, and crashes
Low FPS is different from a graphics initialization failure. Roblox lists symptoms such as an error saying the graphics card is too old, crashes with a graphics error, “Graphics failed to initialize,” warped textures, and unreadable or unintelligible text.

Possible causes include missing DirectX 10-or-higher feature support, outdated graphics drivers, unsupported hardware, or altered Roblox graphics settings. Work through these checks:
As an optional aid, Outbyte Driver Updater may help identify outdated Windows hardware drivers, but use the manufacturer’s source when you choose to install an update.
- Use
dxdiagto verify the GPU’s DirectX feature levels. - Install current graphics drivers from the appropriate graphics-hardware manufacturer when an update is available.
- Check whether Windows compatibility mode has been enabled for Roblox or Roblox Studio. Right-click the relevant application or shortcut, select Properties > Compatibility, and clear Run this program in compatibility mode for:.

Great for router-to-PC connections, modem-to-TV setups, gaming consoles, workstations, printers and other home network equipment that needs a longer Ethernet cable.
- Open Roblox Studio.
- Go to File > Settings.
- Click OK to proceed if prompted.
- Click Reset All Settings in the lower-left corner of the settings window.
Do not treat this as a general player-client FPS fix. If Studio cannot start without crashing, this particular reset procedure is not applicable.
To identify which GPU Roblox Studio is using, open Studio Settings > Diagnostics and locate GfxCard. This is useful when a laptop appears to be using integrated graphics instead of its discrete GPU. Roblox’s graphics troubleshooting details are available in Graphics Problems on Computers.
7. Fix network lag separately
If players teleport, interactions arrive late, or you disconnect while your local image remains smooth, lowering Graphics Quality is the wrong fix. Roblox identifies unstable or slow internet, firewall blocking, wireless problems, browser security settings, ad-blocking extensions, and poorly built or oversized experiences as separate causes.
Try these network checks
- Test a wired connection. Where possible, connect the PC by Ethernet to help rule out Wi-Fi instability.
- Check firewall and antivirus access. Security software can block Roblox’s network access even when local FPS is normal. Roblox currently documents the network port range as UDP 49152–65535. If you manage the firewall, allow Roblox appropriately rather than blindly opening unrelated ports; on a managed or family network, ask the administrator for help.
- Temporarily check browser extensions. Roblox says browser extensions—particularly ad blockers—can prevent an experience from fully loading. Disable or whitelist Roblox only as a controlled test, then restore protection where possible.
- Compare experiences. If one experience is unreliable while others work normally, the experience itself may be the bottleneck.
Roblox recommends approximately 4–8 Mb/s minimum internet speed for a single-use household, with more bandwidth advisable in larger households. Bandwidth affects loading and network responsiveness; it does not determine how many frames your computer renders per second.
See Roblox’s General Connection Problems guide for the documented network causes and checks.
8. Recognize an experience-specific bottleneck
A powerful PC can still perform poorly in a particular Roblox experience. Roblox specifically identifies badly built scripts and too many objects as causes of an experience running improperly. If the problem follows one experience rather than your entire Roblox installation, graphics changes may reduce the symptoms but cannot repair its underlying code or content.
Only the experience creator can correct a server-side or content-level optimization problem. Compare the same computer in several experiences, and note whether the problem affects everyone or only one place. That distinction prevents unnecessary changes to Windows, your network, or your hardware.

What will not reliably boost Roblox FPS
- Changing DNS: Roblox’s cited performance documentation does not identify DNS changes as an FPS fix.
- Buying more internet bandwidth: faster internet can help loading or network responsiveness, but it does not directly increase rendered FPS.
- Closing background apps for a server-side problem: it can free local resources, but it cannot repair bad scripts or excessive objects in an experience.
- Lowering graphics for a firewall or Wi-Fi fault: it changes rendering workload, not network access or connection stability.
- Random “FPS boost” commands or hidden-cap edits: the cited current Roblox documentation provides no supported Windows command for universally boosting FPS, clearing a cache, changing a hidden cap, or applying a universal performance configuration.
A practical troubleshooting order
- Press Shift + F5 and observe client performance.
- If the picture is choppy, set Roblox graphics to manual control and lower Graphics Quality.
- Close high-power applications and restart Roblox.
- Compare multiple experiences.
- On Windows 11, test windowed-game optimization and verify the per-app GPU preference if the PC has multiple GPUs.
- Run
dxdiagif you see crashes, corrupted graphics, or initialization errors. - If players warp or actions are delayed, test Ethernet, firewall/antivirus access, and browser extensions instead of lowering graphics.
- If only one experience remains problematic, report the issue to its creator; local FPS tweaks cannot fix poorly optimized experience content.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Roblox lagging when my FPS looks normal?
You may be experiencing network lag rather than graphics lag. Warping players, delayed actions, loading failures, and disconnections point toward Wi-Fi, firewall, antivirus, browser-extension, or experience-specific problems. Lowering Graphics Quality will not fix those causes.
What is the best Roblox graphics setting for FPS?
Set the graphics control to manual mode and move Graphics Quality to the left until stuttering improves. The exact usable level depends on your PC and the experience. Lower quality improves performance at the cost of visual detail.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Can Roblox run at 240 FPS on Windows?
Roblox documents a Windows maximum cap of 240 FPS, while the default client cap is 60 FPS. The cap does not guarantee that a particular PC, display, or experience will sustain 240 FPS.
Does more internet speed increase Roblox FPS?
No. Roblox recommends about 4–8 Mb/s minimum for a single-use household, but bandwidth affects loading and network responsiveness rather than the number of frames your computer renders.
Should I use Roblox Studio to measure FPS?
No. Press Shift + F5 in the normal Roblox client to display client debug statistics. Roblox notes that Studio itself affects performance, so Studio measurements are not an accurate substitute.
The Bottom Line
For graphics stutter, use Roblox’s manual Graphics Quality slider, close resource-heavy programs, and measure the client with Shift + F5. For warped players or delayed actions, troubleshoot the network instead. Windows 11 GPU and windowed-game settings can help in the right configuration, but no setting guarantees higher FPS—and an individual poorly optimized experience may be the real bottleneck.
