You can remap a standard DualSense directly on PS5: open Settings > Accessibility > Controllers > Custom Button Assignments for DualSense Wireless Controller, choose a button and its new function, then select Apply. You do not need a different controller for basic remapping.
How to change button assignments on a standard DualSense
- From the PS5 home screen, open Settings.
- Select Accessibility.
- Select Controllers.
- Choose Custom Button Assignments for DualSense Wireless Controller.
- Select the button you want to change, then select the function you want to assign to it.
- Select Apply to use the assignment.
These are the steps in PlayStation’s official PS5 accessibility instructions. The standard controller’s remapping option is in the console’s Accessibility settings.
How DualSense Edge assignments differ
DualSense Edge uses custom profiles rather than the standard DualSense Accessibility menu. On PS5, go to Settings > Accessories > DualSense Edge Wireless Controller > Custom Profiles. Create or select a profile, choose Customize Button Assignments, select the button and function, then apply the change. Edge profiles can also disable a button and support profile shortcuts. Edit an Edge profile on Windows PC
- Connect the DualSense Edge to the PC.
- Open the PlayStation Accessories app and create or edit a profile.
- Open button assignments, choose a button and its function, then select Apply.
Sony says Edge profiles are saved in the controller and can be used with another computer or mobile device. This PC workflow is for DualSense Edge; it is not the standard DualSense remapping method. Details are in PlayStation’s DualSense Edge PC instructions.

Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.

If a DualSense Edge button behaves unexpectedly
Check the game’s own controller settings. A game-level assignment may conflict with the Edge profile; PlayStation recommends checking those settings when inputs do not behave as expected. See PlayStation’s Edge profile guidance.
