You can remove a clip from an OBS VLC Video playlist without ending the scheduled YouTube event, but OBS’s documentation does not guarantee that changing a playlist during playback will avoid a reset or keep the current clip running smoothly. The key is to edit the playlist that feeds your encoder—not the YouTube event or the entire OBS source. If uninterrupted output is essential, test the exact edit with your OBS/VLC versions and playlist setup before changing a live broadcast.
First identify which “rotation” you mean
A scheduled YouTube livestream and the rotation of prerecorded videos are separate things. The scheduled event is managed in YouTube Live Control Room; the playlist is usually controlled by the broadcasting software sending video to YouTube. YouTube’s event settings are not an editor for an external media playlist. YouTube’s live-stream settings guide covers scheduled event settings, while OBS’s Media Sources reference describes playlist-capable sources.
If you are using OBS, check whether the clips are in a VLC Video source. A VLC Video source can play multiple files as a playlist, with loop and shuffle controls. A standalone Media Source or a different scene/source arrangement has different controls, so first confirm which source actually supplies the clip you want to remove.
Remove one playlist entry in OBS
- Keep the YouTube event and encoder connection running. Do not end the event in Live Control Room or disconnect the encoder just to change a playlist entry. YouTube documents event management and encoder streaming as separate controls. Scheduled and current streams are available under YouTube Studio > Content > Live, with scheduled events also available from the Live Control Room’s Manage tab; see YouTube’s guide to creating a live stream.
- In OBS, locate the scene containing the playlist source. In the Sources dock, select the specific VLC Video source that holds the playlist, then open its properties. Make sure you have the correct source if the scene contains several media sources.
- Use that source’s playlist controls to remove the unwanted file entry. Do not use the Sources dock’s minus button to remove a playlist item. OBS documents that button as removing a source from the scene, which is a different and broader change; see the OBS Sources Guide.
- Check the output after the edit. Watch the program output and the YouTube stream for a playback interruption, blank frame, or unexpected change in the current clip. The OBS reference explains playlist order, loop, shuffle, and visibility behavior, but does not specify whether removing the currently playing item—or editing the playlist during playback—preserves position without a reset.
Can you guarantee the live stream will not pause or reset?
No universal guarantee is established by the official OBS documentation. It explains how the VLC Video playlist behaves in general, but not the continuity result of changing that list while a clip is playing. If the current video must remain uninterrupted, test the intended change using the same OBS and VLC versions, source configuration, and playlist arrangement before applying it on air. If you cannot test, the safer course for continuity is to wait until the live broadcast is over before editing.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose the change with the right scope
| Option | What it changes | Continuity considerations |
|---|---|---|
| Edit the VLC Video playlist | One entry in the playlist held by that source | OBS documents playlist controls but does not promise that a live edit will preserve playback or avoid a reset. |
| Remove the source with the Sources dock minus button | The entire source is removed from the scene, not just one playlist entry | Use only if removing that whole source is intended; it is not the right control for deleting one clip from the list. |
| Evaluate a third-party playlist plugin | Depends on the plugin and its setup | The Media Playlist Source listing advertises editing a playlist without restarting its video, but compatibility and behavior on your installed setup need verification; that claim is not a guarantee for your live stream. See the OBS Project forum listing. |
If the edit goes wrong
- The whole playlist disappears from the scene: You may have removed the VLC Video source with the Sources dock minus button. Add or restore the intended source in the scene; do not confuse source removal with deleting an item from its playlist.
- The video jumps, stops, or shows a blank output after removing an entry: The exact live-edit behavior is not documented as continuity-safe. Restore the playlist if possible, and use a tested workflow or defer playlist changes until after the broadcast.
- You cannot find the playlist controls: Confirm that the selected source is a VLC Video source rather than a standalone Media Source or another source type. The playlist controls belong to the playlist-capable source.
- YouTube’s scheduled event remains visible but the video rotation is unchanged: You are likely editing the wrong layer. The YouTube event controls manage the event and encoder settings; change the playlist in the software supplying the video.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is an always-on YouTube channel built from uploaded videos, StreamNeo runs the playlist from the cloud rather than from an OBS computer at home. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams uploaded video at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and the first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month.
