The disguise is expected while you are in the region or completing that arc. After leaving Glowecestrescire, update the game and toggle the disguise; raising or lowering Eivor’s hood should also toggle the mask.
Why Eivor is wearing the skull mask
The Mari Lwyd mask appears during The First Night of Samhain in Glowecestrescire. It is part of the regional story disguise, which includes a cloak and mask, rather than ordinary equipment. Ubisoft community support says the costume is expected while exploring Glowecestrescire or completing the arc. Ubisoft community support thread; Gamepressure guide.
Remove it after leaving Glowecestrescire
- Check that the game is updated. Ubisoft’s historical support guidance specifies Title Update 1.1.1 or later for the fix.
- Toggle the disguise. Once outside Glowecestrescire, use the in-game disguise toggle. Ubisoft moderator Ubi-Woofer said, “Once you leave Glowecestrescire, toggling your disguise should remove the Mari Lwyd cloak and mask.”
- Raise and lower the hood. If the skull remains visible, try toggling Eivor’s hood. Ubisoft moderator Ubi-Borealis said the hood-up or hood-down state should toggle whether the skull mask is on.
The thread is historical support guidance, not proof that every current game build is free of the issue. Ubisoft said in that thread it had received no reports of the issue since TU 1.1.1; that dated observation does not establish a current bug rate. Ubisoft community support thread.
If the mask is still stuck
First confirm the game is updated and try the disguise and hood toggles again after leaving the region. If that does not work, Gamepressure reports opening and closing Photo Mode, traveling without a hood, or leaving the region as possible workarounds. These are secondary guide suggestions, not remedies guaranteed by Ubisoft. Ubisoft’s Photo Mode help page documents controls—press both controller thumb sticks, or press F3 on keyboard—but does not say Photo Mode fixes the Mari Lwyd issue. If the official steps fail, check the installed game version and contact Ubisoft support. The Ubisoft community thread asks players with continuing trouble to create a support forum thread and include images or video. Ubisoft community support thread.

Ubisoft Help documents general appearance changes through Animus → Change Eivor’s Appearance, but it does not identify that menu as a way to clear an active Mari Lwyd disguise. Use the disguise and hood toggles for this issue instead. Ubisoft appearance help.
