For the most predictable update, remove the sold property’s file from the local FFmpeg concat list, verify the remaining entries and files, then restart the encoder—or use a reload method you have verified for your exact setup. Editing a list file alone does not establish that an already-running FFmpeg process will reread it. First determine whether you mean FFmpeg’s local input list, a YouTube Live broadcast resource, or an HLS media playlist: each is a different part of the workflow.
Identify which playlist you need to change
A property stream may involve several things called a playlist. Find out which one is active before editing anything.
| What you have | What it contains | What to change |
|---|---|---|
| Local FFmpeg concat input | A list of local video files that FFmpeg reads as input | Remove the sold property’s entry, then apply the change through a verified reload method or restart the FFmpeg input/process. |
| YouTube Live broadcast and stream | Separate YouTube API resources for the broadcast event and its associated stream | Manage the relevant broadcast or stream resource according to your workflow; this is not the same as editing a local file list. See Google’s Live Streaming API, LiveStreams, and LiveBroadcasts documentation. |
| YouTube HLS media playlist | An HLS playlist and media segments delivered to YouTube’s HLS ingest endpoint | Follow YouTube’s HLS ingestion guide and the live-playlist requirements in RFC 8216. |
The steps below apply to the common case where FFmpeg reads a local concat list and sends media to YouTube. Do not edit an HLS media playlist unless your encoder is actually using HLS ingestion.
Replace a sold listing in a local FFmpeg concat list
- Identify the active clip and process. Check your FFmpeg logs or operator dashboard to confirm whether the sold listing is playing and which encoder process and input list are active. Determine whether restarting it will interrupt viewers.
- Make a recoverable copy of the list. Save the current source list before editing. Remove only the sold property’s entry and preserve the desired order of the remaining files. Keep the list syntax consistent with the concat demuxer format used by your existing command; consult the FFmpeg concat demuxer documentation and FFmpeg FAQ if needed.
- Check every remaining entry. Verify each referenced file exists, is readable by the FFmpeg process, and is in the intended order. The concat demuxer’s
safeoption defaults to1, which rejects unsafe paths and directives. Prefer suitable relative paths in a trusted working directory rather than disabling this check casually. Details are in the demuxer documentation. - Apply the edit deterministically. Unless the application managing FFmpeg documents a reload mechanism and you have verified it with your installed build, restart the FFmpeg input/process with the revised list. Preserve the existing YouTube broadcast configuration where your ingest method permits. YouTube models the broadcast and its associated stream as distinct API resources, so identify which one your workflow controls before changing it.
- Verify the result. Watch the FFmpeg logs to confirm it opens the intended next file, then check that YouTube is receiving a healthy stream. Keep the removed file and original list available until the new rotation is confirmed.
- Test before relying on the change. Run the replacement procedure with a non-sale clip before using it during a live property rotation. Check the local documentation for your installed FFmpeg version: the online documentation follows the newest revision, and behavior or command details may differ by build.
A restart is the predictable fallback, not a guarantee of uninterrupted playback. Whether viewers see a gap depends on your command, ingest protocol, process manager, and how the broadcast handles an encoder restart. The reviewed FFmpeg documentation describes concat methods and list-file options but does not promise that an open concat input immediately rereads a changed list.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If your workflow uses YouTube HLS
For HLS ingest, update the HLS media playlist and segments according to YouTube’s ingestion guide; changing a local FFmpeg concat list is a separate operation. YouTube says that filenames in the playlist’s file= value may use alphanumeric characters, underscores, forward slashes, hyphens, and periods, and that the filename should not be URL-encoded.
RFC 8216 also specifies live-playlist behavior: when removing media segments from a live playlist, include EXT-X-MEDIA-SEQUENCE, increase its value for each removed segment, and remove segments in the order they appear. These rules concern HLS media playlists—not local FFmpeg concat input lists.

Common problems and fixes
- The sold clip still plays after you edit the list: The running input may not have reopened the file. Confirm the active process and list, then restart it or use a reload procedure verified for your application and FFmpeg build.
- FFmpeg rejects a remaining path: Check that the file exists, is readable by the process account, and uses valid concat-list syntax. The default
safe=1rejects unsafe paths and directives; correct the entry rather than disabling the protection without a specific, understood need. - The next clip is not the one you expected: Inspect the list order and confirm which list the active FFmpeg command actually reads. Do not assume that editing a similarly named file changed the running source.
- YouTube shows an unhealthy or interrupted stream after the restart: Check FFmpeg’s input and output logs, then confirm the broadcast and associated stream state for your ingest method. A restart can cause a viewer-visible gap; uninterrupted playback is not assured by changing the list.
- You edited an HLS playlist as if it were a concat list: Identify the actual ingest mode. For HLS, follow YouTube’s filename guidance and RFC 8216’s sequence and removal-order requirements; for a local concat input, those HLS playlist rules do not apply.
