To show the lesson currently playing inside your YouTube video, add a text or browser source in OBS and update it whenever the lesson changes. If you also want the lesson named on YouTube’s live page, update the stream’s metadata separately: an on-screen overlay and the YouTube title are different things.
Choose where the lesson title should appear
- In the video: Add a text or browser source to the OBS scene. Viewers will see it as part of the stream image.
- On YouTube: Edit the stream details in YouTube Studio. This changes the platform-facing title, not the video image.
- In both places: Update both independently when a new lesson starts.
OBS does not automatically know which lesson is playing. Someone or something must provide the current lesson name, whether that is an operator, an updated text file or web page, or a custom integration.
Show the lesson title in the video with OBS
Add a text source
- Open the OBS scene used for the education stream.
- In the Sources panel, select + and add a text source. Choose the text source appropriate to your system if OBS offers more than one.
- Enter the lesson title and confirm. Drag the source in the preview to place it, and resize it using its handles.
- Use the source’s properties to choose readable text styling. Keep the title clear of other essential content and test it at the stream’s output size.
- When the lesson changes, edit the source text and apply the new title. The overlay changes only when its text is updated.
This is the simplest approach when a person can update the label at each lesson transition. If the stream runs unattended, plan how that update will happen before relying on a manually maintained label.
Use a browser source for a web-based title graphic
OBS Browser Source can place a web page inside a scene; the OBS Project describes it as: “Add a web page to your scene.” See the OBS Sources Guide.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Prepare a page that displays the title in the layout you want.
- In OBS, select + in Sources and add a Browser source.
- Enter the page URL and set the source dimensions to fit the graphic. Position it in the scene preview.
- Verify that the page loads and displays the right title in the outgoing composition.
The browser source displays the page; it does not determine which lesson is current. Your page or the process behind it must receive and display the correct lesson name. A page that fails to load or update can leave the overlay blank or stale, so include a way to check it during operation.
Decide how lesson transitions will work
Only the title changes
Keep one title source in the scene and update its text or the web page’s content when the lesson changes. This avoids switching the whole scene when the visual layout stays the same.

The layout changes too
Create scenes for the different layouts. OBS Studio Mode lets an operator prepare the next scene and transition it to the live output; see the OBS Studio overview. A scene change still does not select the lesson automatically: the operator or a custom workflow has to choose the correct scene and title.
Automating the lesson name
Automation depends on where your schedule and lesson names live and how that information reaches OBS or the web page. The official OBS and YouTube documentation cited here describes sources, scenes, and stream metadata, but not a built-in timetable-to-overlay feature. Treat schedule-driven updates as a custom workflow, and test what happens when a lesson is delayed, skipped, or renamed.

Update the YouTube live title separately
YouTube Studio’s stream settings let you edit the stream’s details, including its platform-facing title. YouTube documents editing encoder stream settings in Studio in its live-streaming settings help. Changing that title does not add or change text inside the video. If viewers need both a correctly labeled YouTube event and an in-video lesson label, update both.
For custom development, YouTube’s Live Streaming API distinguishes a broadcast from the stream feed and supports broadcast metadata, including a title. Using it requires authorization and developer work; it is not a turnkey lesson-schedule connection. See the YouTube Live Streaming API documentation.

Check the result before leaving the stream unattended
- Confirm the title is legible in the actual stream output, not just in the OBS preview.
- Check that the displayed lesson matches the one currently playing.
- Test a lesson transition and verify whether the overlay, YouTube metadata, or both need a separate update.
- If using a browser source, confirm the page loads and that its content refreshes as expected.
- If using separate scenes, rehearse preparing and transitioning the next scene in Studio Mode.
- For an automated workflow, test missed, delayed, and changed schedule entries rather than assuming every transition will be on time.
Common problems and fixes
The overlay still shows the previous lesson
The text source or its web page was not updated. Change the source text or check the process that supplies the page with its current title.
The YouTube title changed, but the video still shows the old title
You changed metadata only. Update the OBS text source or the page used by the browser source as well.

The overlay is blank
For a text source, reopen its properties and confirm that text is present. For a browser source, check the page URL, loading state, and source dimensions.
The wrong lesson appears after a scene transition
Verify the title and layout in the scene being prepared before transitioning it to the live output. If the lesson name comes from a schedule, check that the schedule data corresponds to the lesson actually playing.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the priority is keeping pre-recorded lessons looping on YouTube without leaving a computer running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The lesson-title overlay described above is a separate OBS or web-page workflow; do not assume the cloud stream automatically reads your timetable or updates a title graphic.

- Videos stream as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot.
