Request the refund from the store that charged you, using the account that made the purchase. Before you submit, check that store’s policy for your region and product type: a change-of-mind request, a faulty game, and an unrecognized charge are different situations, and no storefront rule guarantees approval.
1. Identify the seller and the kind of problem
Check your payment statement, receipt, and store account to see who processed the charge. A purchase made in a console or PC storefront should go through that storefront; a purchase from a third-party retailer or publisher follows that seller’s policy. The policies below apply only to the named stores and regions.

- Faulty content: describe the defect and what happens when you try to play. Include relevant error messages or screenshots if available. A fault may be treated differently from a change of mind.
- Unrecognized or unauthorized charge: do not present this as a routine change-of-mind refund. The policies here do not establish the right process for unauthorized charges or bank disputes; use the store’s official account-security or support channel to identify the issue.
A fighting game is not a special refund category in the policies reviewed. The store may instead classify the purchase as a game, add-on, in-game item, bundle, or subscription.

2. Check the policy for your storefront and region
These examples are not interchangeable. They are current policy-page examples for specific storefronts and regions; check the linked policy again before relying on a deadline or condition.

Do not treat “14 days” as a universal deadline: PlayStation’s US rule includes a download/stream condition, while Steam’s standard game policy also sets a playtime threshold. If you are in the EU or UK, Steam separately explains digital-content withdrawal rights and when they may end in its EU/UK withdrawal information. Local law can affect eligibility beyond a store’s general policy.

3. Find the transaction and submit the request
- Sign in to the purchasing account. Use the account tied to the receipt or charge, not merely the profile currently playing the game.
- Open purchase or order history. Locate the exact game, add-on, bundle, or item and note its purchase date. Also check relevant activity such as download, streaming, or playtime.
- Use the store’s official refund route. On PlayStation, Sony’s support instructions direct users to Order Details and the eligible transaction’s Cancel Purchase option; the cited instructions are for Spain and are in Spanish, so confirm the equivalent route for your region at PlayStation refund request instructions. For Microsoft Store apps and games, follow the Xbox support refund flow linked above. Steam and Nintendo provide their policy and account-support routes through their respective linked pages.
- Explain the reason accurately. If the game is faulty, state what is failing, when it occurs, and any error message. Attach evidence only if it is relevant and available. For a change of mind, answer the store’s questions honestly about use and timing.
- Keep the confirmation. Save the request confirmation and any response so you can refer to the transaction and stated reason if you need to follow up.
4. If the request is denied
Read the refusal reason and compare it with the policy for your region, product, and circumstances. If the request concerns a fault, clarify the specific defect through the seller’s official support channel and provide relevant evidence. If you believe local consumer law gives you a right not reflected in the store’s general policy, consult an official consumer-protection authority for your jurisdiction. A policy example from another country cannot determine your individual legal rights.
