How to Reset Your VALORANT Rank: Episode and Act Placements Explained

You cannot manually reset your VALORANT rank on demand. Riot’s published guidance describes rank recalibration through placement matches at episode and act transitions, not a reset command or item.

How rank recalibration works

The placement requirement depends on when the transition happens. Riot Games Support’s September 4, 2023 guidance distinguishes the start of a new episode from Act 2 or Act 3.

These requirements are from Riot’s Rank Rating (RR) for Iron through Ascendant support article, dated September 4, 2023. Rules can change, so check current Riot support or the in-game Competitive interface if the current episode’s requirements differ.

What to do if you want a reset

1. If a new episode has begun: play the five required placement matches to receive your rank.
2. If Act 2 or Act 3 has begun: play the one required placement match to receive your rank.
3. If you mean an immediate, manual reset: Riot’s published guidance does not document a way to clear your rank on demand. Check current Riot support for account-specific issues.

How your rank changes between placements

Outside placement recalibration, Competitive results affect Rank Rating (RR). Riot’s 2023 article says that, for Iron through Ascendant, a newly placed rank starts at 50 RR and promotion requires 100 RR. The article does not establish these figures for ranks beyond Ascendant.
