How to Restart an XSplit Broadcaster Stream After a Disconnect

XSplit’s official guides do not document a universal automatic restart setting. Here’s how to check the output plugin, connection and platform recovery options.

There is no documented universal XSplit Broadcaster switch that automatically restarts every stream after a disconnect. XSplit’s official output-properties guide explains connection and encoding options, but says settings can differ by output service; its getting-started guide says to select an output and click Stream, without describing automatic recovery. Check the specific output plugin and destination platform you use rather than assuming all XSplit outputs behave alike.

What to check first

  1. Identify the destination and output plugin. Open the properties for the output you actually use. XSplit notes that options vary by service and that some settings may be locked or overridden for compatibility. See XSplit’s Output Plugin Properties.
  2. Check the output’s connection and status. Note whether XSplit reports that it is reconnecting, has stopped, or shows another error. The reviewed official setup guide describes starting a stream by choosing the output channel and clicking Stream; it does not specify one post-disconnect restart procedure for every plugin and platform. Read XSplit’s getting-started guide.
  3. Test whether the connection can sustain the selected bitrate. In the output’s Channel settings, use Test bandwidth if available. XSplit says the check can help determine whether the current connection supports the selected bitrate. Compare the result with the destination’s current requirements and your available upload capacity; a successful test is not a guarantee against intermittent outages.
  4. Check the network adapter. If the PC has multiple adapters, inspect Network Connection in the output properties. XSplit’s guidance is to leave it at Let the system decide for most users, selecting a particular adapter only when there is a reason to do so.
  5. Separate encoder recovery from platform grace periods. Check whether the platform still considers the event live and whether its own disconnect protection is enabled. A viewer-facing grace period is not proof that XSplit has restarted or recovered the output.

XSplit Support’s Output Plugin Properties page, updated June 25, 2026, describes bandwidth testing as a way to check whether the connection can support the selected bitrate. It documents diagnostic options, not a universal automatic-restart control.

If you stream to Twitch

Twitch Disconnect Protection is a platform-side feature, separate from an XSplit restart command. Twitch says viewers can see a reconnect message for up to 90 seconds while the streamer troubleshoots and reconnects, and lists XSplit as supported. Check whether it is enabled in Twitch’s Stream Settings. This window is for the viewer experience; it does not establish that XSplit will automatically resume the broadcast. See Twitch’s Disconnect Protection help page.

Diagnose the interruption before changing settings

Use the observed status and the point where the interruption occurs to narrow the cause. Changing unrelated settings can make it harder to identify what failed.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What to compare What to record or check What it helps distinguish
Where the interruption occurs Whether the local network or uplink failed, XSplit lost its output connection, or the platform ended or no longer recognizes the event; capture the status message. A local connectivity problem versus an output-plugin or platform-side issue.
Output compatibility Destination platform, exact XSplit output plugin, and any locked or overridden properties. Whether the available controls are specific to that service.
Connection suitability Bandwidth-test result, selected bitrate, and network adapter in use. Whether the connection may be unable to sustain the configured output. If capacity is insufficient, a lower bitrate can be a diagnostic option, subject to the destination’s current requirements.
Recovery state Whether XSplit reports a reconnect attempt, whether the platform still considers the event live, and whether platform disconnect protection is active. An encoder recovery attempt versus a viewer-facing grace period.

What to send support if it keeps happening

Record the XSplit Broadcaster version, destination platform, output plugin, exact status or error, whether XSplit says it is reconnecting or has stopped, and the relevant bandwidth-test and adapter details. Give those details to XSplit or the platform’s support team. The official documentation reviewed does not establish one manual restart sequence that applies to every plugin and platform.
