Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThere is no universal, documented reset or abandon button for Diablo 4 seasonal quests. If a seasonal objective is frozen, its marker disappears, or an NPC is missing, use the reversible refresh sequence below before contacting Blizzard. Do not delete the character or assume that repeatedly dropping and reacquiring the quest will repair server-side progress.
The safest order is: return to town, unpin and repin the quest, relog from the character-select screen, verify the seasonal realm and campaign requirements, then try one difficulty change and another relog. These steps can refresh local UI and session state, but a patch-wide or server-side fault may require Blizzard to fix the quest.

What “reset” means for a seasonal quest
Diablo 4 does not provide a single, documented control that resets every seasonal quest. A quest may be abandoned in some ordinary gameplay situations, but the available player reports do not establish a safe, universal abandon procedure for seasonal progression. A missing “quit” option is therefore not proof that you have overlooked a menu.

The practical goal is not to force a reset. It is to refresh the least disruptive layers first: the map and journal display, then the login session, then the character’s realm, campaign and difficulty context. If the quest is broken on Blizzard’s side, local actions cannot manufacture a valid objective state.
Do these safety checks before changing anything
- Confirm the character is seasonal. Check the realm shown for the character you are using. Seasonal and Eternal progression are separate, so a quest expected on one realm will not necessarily appear on the other.
- Check campaign status. Some seasonal access points require the campaign to be completed or skipped. If the character has neither completed nor skipped the required campaign state, the quest may not unlock normally.
- Record the exact objective. Write down the quest name, the step that is stuck, the wording of any error, the character name or ID, platform, realm and current difficulty. This information is useful if support is required.
- Stay in control of the character. Do not delete the character, spend materials to “test” unrelated systems, or make irreversible progression changes while diagnosing the quest.
The low-risk recovery sequence
Perform these steps in order. Stop when the quest returns to a usable state. The first four steps are routine refreshes; the difficulty change is a reported workaround rather than a guaranteed fix.
-
Leave the activity and return to a town
Exit the dungeon, event or quest area and travel to a town. This clears you from an instance or event context before you refresh the journal and session. If the game will not let you leave normally, use the ordinary town-travel option rather than abandoning the character.

Unpin and repin the seasonal quest
Open the quest journal, select the seasonal quest and remove its pin. Close or move away from the journal, then select the same quest and pin it again. A player report about the missing Bryona objective lists unpinning and repinning as a refresh step. This changes the tracked objective and map display; it is not a confirmed server-side reset.

-
Log out to character select and log back in
Use the game’s logout option to reach character select, then load the same seasonal character again. A town change followed by a relog was recommended in the Bryona report. Logging out fully is preferable to merely opening and closing a menu because it creates a new game session.
-
Verify the seasonal realm and campaign requirement
Before testing the quest again, confirm that the character is on the seasonal realm. Also confirm that the campaign has been completed or skipped if the seasonal quest requires that state. If either check fails, resolve that prerequisite first; changing difficulty will not substitute for an unmet campaign or realm requirement.
-
Try one difficulty change, then relog
Change the character’s difficulty once, return to town if necessary, log out to character select and log back in. Check the map and quest journal after the relog. Reports about “In the Name of the Tree” describe a marker returning after moving from Torment I back to Hard; another report says Penitent restored the marker. These are individual player reports, not a documented guarantee, so use the least disruptive change available to you and do not cycle difficulties repeatedly.

Escalate if the objective is still broken
If the objective remains frozen, the required NPC is absent, the marker never returns, or the quest disappeared after a patch, submit a Blizzard support request or bug report. Include the information in the checklist below and describe every step already tried. Persistent reports were directed to Blizzard support, and a patch-related disappearance may require a game fix rather than a local workaround.

What each recovery action can—and cannot—repair
| Action | Primarily refreshes | Risk and reversibility | Use it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Return to town | Dungeon or event context | Routine and reversible | You are still inside the activity where the objective stopped updating |
| Unpin and repin | Quest journal tracking and map display | Routine and reversible | The quest exists but the tracked marker or objective display looks stale |
| Logout to character select and relog | Login/session state | Routine; unsaved in-session actions may end | After changing towns or refreshing the quest pin |
| Verify realm and campaign state | Unlock prerequisites | No character-progress risk | The quest never unlocked, or the character may be on the wrong realm |
| Change difficulty once and relog | Reported marker or world-state refresh | Reversible, but the result is not guaranteed | The marker is missing despite a valid seasonal character and campaign state |
| Blizzard support or bug report | Server-side or patch-related faults | Safest option when local refreshes fail | An NPC is missing, an objective is frozen, or the quest vanished after an update |
Recognize the common stuck-quest patterns
“Taste of Power” shows a party-progression error
One report describes “Taste of Power” stuck at Slay the Demons with the message, “Cannot progress due to party’s progression,” even though the player was alone. The quoted report reads: “I am playing Solo, yet I am receiving the error message: ‘Cannot progress due to party’s progression.’”
In that case, leaving the area, resetting the game and changing World Tiers did not resolve the problem. Treat this pattern as a likely progression-state or quest-service problem rather than assuming that a solo player has somehow joined a hidden party. Complete the low-risk sequence once, capture the exact error and objective, then escalate if the message persists.
“In the Name of the Tree” loses its marker
Reports associate this quest’s missing marker with difficulty changes. In one account, the marker returned after moving from Torment I back to Hard; another says Penitent restored it. Apply the difficulty step only after the town, pin, relog, realm and campaign checks. Because these outcomes are reports rather than official instructions, a successful result for one character is not a promise that the same difficulty will work for another.
Bryona is missing from “The Embers Yet Smolder”
A report about Bryona recommends checking campaign completion or skip status, changing towns, unpinning and repinning the quest, relogging, and attempting an NPC reload. These actions address different layers: campaign eligibility, location loading, tracked-objective display, session state and the NPC’s local presence. If Bryona remains absent after one orderly pass, provide the NPC name and the precise objective to support instead of repeatedly abandoning the quest.

The seasonal quest disappears after a patch
A quest that vanishes immediately after an update may be affected by a known game issue. One report expected a fix rather than a player-side repair. In that situation, local troubleshooting is still useful for ruling out a stale session, but it cannot correct a patch-wide data or scripting defect. Include the patch or update timing in your report.
When changing difficulty is worth trying
Difficulty changes are different from the earlier refreshes because they alter the world context in which the quest is loaded. The reports supporting this step concern a missing marker, not every type of stuck objective. Use it when:
- the character is definitely on the seasonal realm;
- the campaign has been completed or skipped as required;
- the quest is pinned again after a town return;
- a full logout and relog did not restore the marker; and
- you can return to the prior difficulty after testing.
Change difficulty once, relog, and inspect the map. Avoid rapid back-and-forth cycling: there is no evidence that repeated changes are safer or more effective, and they can make it harder to describe the state accurately to support.
How to report a quest that still will not progress
A complete report gives Blizzard enough context to distinguish a local display problem from a server or patch problem. Submit a support request or bug report with:

- the exact seasonal quest name and objective text;
- the character name or character ID;
- platform;
- seasonal realm confirmation;
- current difficulty and any difficulty you tested;
- the map location or NPC involved;
- the exact error message, including punctuation;
- whether you were solo or in a party;
- when the problem began, especially whether it followed a patch; and
- the recovery steps you completed: town return, unpin/repin, relog, realm and campaign checks, and any difficulty change.
For a missing marker, describe where it last appeared and whether the journal still lists the quest. For a missing NPC, state the NPC’s name, the objective that should summon or reveal them, and the towns or areas you checked. Screenshots or a short video can make a disappearing marker or error easier to reproduce, but the written details above are the essential part of the report.
What not to do
- Do not delete the character. There is no indication that character deletion repairs a seasonal quest, and it risks losing unrelated progress.
- Do not assume repeated abandonment is a reset. The available reports do not establish that dropping and reacquiring a seasonal quest clears server-side state.
- Do not treat a difficulty workaround as an official fix. The Torment I-to-Hard and Penitent reports are anecdotal outcomes.
- Do not keep changing variables after the state is documented. Once you have a reproducible objective and error, additional changes can obscure the conditions Blizzard needs to investigate.
- Do not infer that a solo player caused a party error. The “Taste of Power” report shows that the message can appear to a player who says they are playing solo.
A quick decision path
- Quest marker or journal looks stale: return to town, unpin and repin, then relog.
- Quest never unlocks: verify seasonal realm and campaign completion or skip.
- Marker is missing after those checks: try one difficulty change and relog, noting that this is a community-reported workaround.
- Objective is frozen, NPC is absent, or the quest vanished after a patch: file a support or bug report with the full character, platform, realm, difficulty, objective and error details.
This order keeps every player-side action reversible and separates display refreshes from problems that require Blizzard’s intervention.
The safe answer
You cannot rely on a universal “reset quest” or “abandon seasonal quest” control in Diablo 4. Refresh the activity and journal, relog, verify the seasonal and campaign prerequisites, and test one difficulty change only if the marker remains missing. If the quest still cannot progress, preserve the character and report the exact state to Blizzard rather than deleting anything or repeatedly abandoning the quest.
