To roll a Conan Exiles server back, stop it, download and preserve the current world, move the live database out of the way, rename the selected backup to the database filename your build expects, then restart and join to verify the result. Legacy servers use game.db; Enhanced (UE5) servers use game_0.db. A database rollback does not restore server configuration files.

Identify the database your server uses
Do not rename a backup until you know whether the server is running the Legacy build or Enhanced (UE5). Open the server’s Saved folder while the server is stopped and check the filenames that are actually present.

Backup numbering is not a universal age guarantee. Look at the dates and times shown by your file manager or FTP client, and make a note of which backup you intend to use before changing anything.
What a rollback restores—and what it leaves alone
The database contains the persistent world state: player data, buildings, thralls and clans. Replacing it rolls those items back to the point represented by the backup. It does not contain the server’s configuration files. In particular, ServerSettings.ini is outside the database, so settings such as server rules must be backed up separately from the Config folder if you need to preserve them.

A rollback is therefore a world-state operation, not a complete server snapshot. Keep the current Config folder and any other files your host uses for settings before making the change.
Before touching a save file
- Stop the server completely. Never rename, delete or replace database files while the process is running. A running server can keep the database open and write new data over your changes.
- Preserve the current world. Use FTP or your host’s file manager to download the live database and any associated files before overwriting anything. Store that copy outside the server directory with a clear date and description.
- Preserve configuration separately. Download the
Configfolder, includingServerSettings.ini, if you may need to recreate the current settings. - Record the target backup. Write down the exact filename and timestamp of the backup you selected. Do not rely only on a number such as “1” or “2.”
- Check available storage. You need room for the downloaded current world and for the renamed live database to remain on the server while you test the rollback.
If your control panel reports that the server is still stopping, wait until its status is fully stopped before opening the save directory.

Manual restore over FTP or a file manager
The manual method is the same basic operation regardless of whether you connect through FTP or a host-provided file browser: preserve the live file, then give the chosen backup the live database’s name.

- Stop the server. Use the panel’s Stop control and wait for a confirmed stopped state.
- Open the server’s
Savedfolder. Confirm whether the live file isgame.dborgame_0.db. If the filename does not match either build pattern, stop and verify that you are in the correct server instance and save directory rather than guessing. - Download the current live save. Copy the live database to your computer before changing it. Include matching sidecar files when they are present, and keep the files together as one dated emergency copy.
- Rename the live database in place. For Legacy, rename
game.dbto a holding name such asgameold.db. For Enhanced, renamegame_0.dbto a similar holding name. Do not delete this file; it is your quickest way back if the selected backup is wrong. - Select the backup. On Legacy, choose a file in the
game_backup_N.dbpattern. On Enhanced, choose a file in thegame_0_backup_*.dbpattern. If the newest file is known or suspected to be damaged, choose an older one instead. - Promote the backup. Rename the selected Legacy backup to exactly
game.db, or rename the selected Enhanced backup to exactlygame_0.db. Preserve the filename’s spelling, underscores and extension. - Resolve sidecar files before starting. Follow the sidecar decision below; do not leave files from two different database versions mixed together.
- Start the server. Allow the process to finish its normal startup before attempting to connect.
- Join and inspect the world. Connect as a player and check a few recognizable locations, characters, structures and clan information. Confirm that the state matches the date you intended to restore.
Handling -wal and -shm sidecar files
SQLite-style databases can have files named game_0.db-wal and game_0.db-shm beside the main database. Host instructions differ because the correct action depends on whether those files belong to the database you are installing.
- If stale
-walor-shmfiles were left by the live database while you are replacing it, one host advises deleting them before startup so the new database is not paired with unrelated transaction data. - If the backup was copied with its own matching
-waland-shmfiles, another host advises keeping that set together when copying. A matching trio should not be split.
Never combine a backup’s main database with sidecars from a different save. If you cannot tell which database a sidecar belongs to, keep the original files in your downloaded safety copy, move the uncertain server-side sidecars out of the active folder, and test with the selected backup’s complete matching set. Keep every moved file until the rollback has been verified.
Verify the rollback and retain a recovery path
A successful server start does not by itself prove that the desired save loaded. Join the server and check the world state that motivated the rollback. Look for more than one confirmation—for example, a known building, a player’s inventory or position, and a clan or thrall that should exist at the target point.

If the world is still too new, appears empty, or shows the wrong state, stop the server before making another change. Keep the promoted file and your downloaded copies, then decide whether another numbered backup is the correct target. Do not overwrite your only copy of the current world while troubleshooting.
Once the expected state is confirmed, create a fresh copy of the restored database and record which backup was used. This gives you a known-good rollback point if a later startup exposes a problem.
Using a host panel’s Restore Backup function
Many game-server panels provide a Restore Backup action that performs the file swap for you. The labels vary, but the workflow is generally:

- Open the server’s backup or file-management page.
- Select the archive or dated backup you want to install.
- Confirm the restore prompt and execute it.
- Wait for the panel to report completion, then start the server if it does not restart automatically.
- Join the server and verify the world state.
Panel restoration is the graphical equivalent of moving the live database aside and promoting a backup. Before confirming, use the panel’s download or backup option to preserve the current world when available. If the panel does not explain whether configuration files are included, assume the operation restores the database only and keep your Config folder separately.
If the selected backup will not load
Try an older backup
The newest backup can itself be damaged. Stop the server, preserve the failed attempt and its log files if your panel exposes them, then repeat the restore with an older backup. Treat each attempt as a separate dated copy so you can return to the last known-good set.
Check that the filename matches the build
An Enhanced server expects game_0.db, while a Legacy server expects game.db. A correctly formed backup with the wrong live filename will not be used as intended. Recheck the actual contents of the Saved folder before renaming anything.

Check sidecar consistency
A stale or mismatched -wal or -shm file can interfere with a replacement database. Remove or move only the sidecars that do not belong to the selected backup, and never discard your offline safety copy.

Use a read-only inspection tool cautiously
A community browser tool called Supercraft save recovery is described as checking databases without modifying the originals. Its effectiveness has not been independently verified, so treat it as an optional diagnostic, work only on copies, and do not use it as a substitute for keeping the original server files.

A repeatable rollback checklist
- Stop the server and wait for a confirmed stopped state.
- Identify the active filename in
Saved:game.dbfor Legacy orgame_0.dbfor Enhanced. - Download the current database and matching sidecars, if any.
- Back up the
Configfolder separately. - Rename the live database to a holding name.
- Choose the dated backup in the matching naming pattern.
- Rename that backup to the active filename.
- Keep matching sidecars together; move stale, unrelated ones out of the active set.
- Start the server and join.
- Confirm the expected players, buildings, thralls and clans are present.
- Keep the restored set and the pre-rollback copies until the result is accepted.
