First confirm which Android edition you used, then protect any remaining local data before changing or deleting anything.
What you can restore—and what you cannot assume
There are two separate things to recover:
- Purchase entitlement: Google Play records that your account bought the game’s one-time unlock. Google says an app bought on Google Play can be installed on another Android device without paying again when that device uses the same account.
- Save data: your completed cases, deductions and other progress. Google Play Games autosaves only in games that support that feature. The authoritative Android listing for this title does not promise cloud-save synchronization, so a reinstall may restore the unlock while leaving progress absent.
Do not uninstall the old copy, clear its storage, or accept a phone-transfer operation that overwrites the app while you are still trying to recover a missing save. The publisher’s terms tell users to keep an external way to reconstruct data that may be lost.

Identify the Android edition before restoring anything
The game has separate Android distributions. A purchase made in one is not documented as transferable to the other.

How to tell which copy you have
- Open Google Play Store and tap your profile picture.
- Choose Payments & subscriptions, then Budget & order history (the wording can vary slightly by Play Store version). Look for the purchase of The Case of the Golden Idol and note the publisher shown on the listing or receipt.
- Alternatively, search the Play Store for the title and inspect the developer name on the official page. The standalone purchase is the Playstack listing; the subscription edition identifies Netflix.
If your receipt is for Playstack but you installed the Netflix package, or the reverse, remove the mistaken assumption that the other copy should unlock automatically. Install the edition that matches the account and access model you originally used.

Restore a Playstack purchase after reinstalling Android
Use this sequence for a reinstall, a new phone, or a second Android device.
- Add the original Google Account. On the phone, open Settings > Passwords & accounts (or Accounts) > Add account > Google. Sign in to the account that received the Play receipt. If several accounts are present, make that account active in Play Store by tapping the profile picture and selecting it.
- Install the matching listing. In Google Play Store, search for The Case of the Golden Idol and select the Playstack listing. Check the developer name before tapping Install.
- Launch while online. Open the game with a reliable connection and wait for Google Play billing to verify the entitlement. A restored purchase may not appear until the store and app have completed that check.
- Open the full game. Enter the purchase screen and confirm that the 12 scenarios and 6 bonus cases are available. Do not buy again merely because the first screen still displays a price.
- Verify the account if it remains locked. Return to Play Store, tap the profile picture and confirm the selected account. Compare it with the account named on the receipt. Close the game completely, switch to the purchasing account, and launch again.
- Preserve proof before escalating. Keep the Play order number, receipt email, approximate purchase time and screenshots of the locked content. Do not send a Google password.
Google’s guidance covers re-downloading an app bought through the same account; Playstack’s terms state that payment and transaction issues are handled by the platform provider. That means Google Play is the first place to verify an account or transaction, while Playstack can investigate a game-side failure after you provide the evidence.
If the game still asks you to pay
- Confirm that the order is completed rather than pending, declined or refunded in Play Store > profile picture > Payments & subscriptions > Budget & order history.
- Check that you installed the same Playstack listing, not the Netflix distribution.
- Force-close the game, reopen Play Store with the purchasing account selected, and launch the game again.
- Do not make a second purchase while the first order is being investigated; duplicate transactions complicate refunds and do not repair a missing save.
- If the completed order is visible but the unlock never appears, contact Playstack at [email protected] with the order number, device model, Android version, edition and screenshots. Include facts, not your account password.
Try to recover progress without destroying a local save
Purchase restoration and progress restoration follow different paths. Treat progress as potentially local unless you can verify that this installation is using a supported Google Play Games autosave.

Check whether Google Play Games has a usable account
- Open the game’s Play Store listing and look for the Uses Google Play Games indicator. Its presence means the game is connected to Play Games features; it is not, by itself, proof that every save is synchronized.
- Open the Play Games app or the game’s Achievements or Leaderboards screen. Confirm that the displayed Google account is the one used on the old phone.
- If the wrong account is shown, switch Play Games to the previous account, close the game, and reopen it. Use the same account on both devices.
- Allow a few minutes online for account authentication. Then check whether the game’s existing progress appears before starting a new case.
Google’s Play Games help says that some games autosave progress when you are signed in to the Play Games mobile app. It does not say that every game does so, and the Playstack listing does not guarantee cloud saves for this title. Therefore, an empty game after reinstalling is not evidence that your purchase failed; it may mean that the old progress was stored only on the previous device.
Protect the old phone or old installation
If the original phone still opens the game, stop using it for experiments and preserve it as your best recovery source:
- Do not uninstall the game.
- Do not use Settings > Apps > The Case of the Golden Idol > Storage > Clear storage or Clear data.
- Do not sign out, reset or factory-reset the phone until you have checked the new installation and documented the old progress.
- Do not accept a device-transfer prompt that replaces the old app’s data with an empty installation.
- Take screenshots of completed cases and your in-game state if you need a record from which to reconstruct progress.
No supported manual save-file export/import procedure is documented in the authoritative listing or publisher material. Do not rely on copying an arbitrary Android app-data folder, and do not grant a third-party utility access to private storage simply because it promises a transfer.

Common device-change situations
You still have the old phone and the new phone
Keep the old copy intact. On the new phone, restore the purchase with the original Google Account, then check the Play Games account. If the new copy remains empty, continue playing nowhere until Playstack has advised you; starting new progress can make it harder to identify which data is original. Preserve screenshots and both devices’ software details for support.
The old phone is broken but its storage is accessible
Do not factory-reset or trade in the device. A repair shop or the manufacturer’s transfer process may be able to preserve application data, but the game does not publish a guaranteed export format. Ask the repair or transfer provider specifically not to wipe app storage, and keep the original device until you know whether the save can be read.
The old phone was lost, wiped or already cleared
Restore the Playstack entitlement with the original Google Account and perform the Play Games checks. If no progress returns, there is no documented title-specific cloud backup or manual restore route to promise. Contact Playstack with the purchase receipt, old device model, approximate last-played date, Google Play Games account and any screenshots. Support may be able to diagnose the account or edition, but recovery of a local-only save cannot be guaranteed.

You changed Google Accounts
A new account does not inherit another account’s Google Play purchase. Add the original purchasing account to the device and select it in Play Store. If you intentionally changed accounts, keep the old account available for entitlement verification; do not assume family sharing or a Play Games profile switch transfers the game’s purchase or save.

The Netflix distribution is a separate package and uses Netflix authentication. Sign in to the Netflix account that supplied access and confirm that the membership is active, then install the Netflix listing rather than the Playstack listing. A Playstack Google Play purchase is not documented as an unlock for this edition, and the Netflix listing does not document a transferable save guarantee.
If Netflix access is missing, resolve the membership or account issue with Netflix first. If the subscription is valid but the game itself cannot open or displays the wrong state, record the edition, device model, Android version and screenshots before contacting the appropriate support channel. Do not buy the Playstack unlock as a workaround unless you actually want that separate edition.

When and how to contact Playstack
Playstack’s Google Play listing directs players with freezes and other problems to send details and screenshots. For an entitlement or save investigation, email [email protected] and include:
- Google Play order number and receipt for the Playstack purchase.
- The Google Account used for the purchase (identify the account without sending its password).
- Device manufacturer and model, Android version and the game’s installed version if shown in app settings.
- Which edition is installed and which publisher appears on the Play Store listing.
- When you bought the game, when you last saw the save, and what changed: reinstall, new phone, account switch, storage clear or transfer.
- Screenshots of the locked purchase screen, missing progress, Play Games account and order history, with unrelated private information cropped out.
Explain whether the issue is an entitlement problem, a missing save, or both. This distinction prevents support from treating a valid purchase as a billing dispute or a local save as an account-login error.

Preventing the next loss
- Keep the receipt and order number in a place separate from the phone.
- Record which Google Account owns the Playstack purchase.
- Before a factory reset or phone trade-in, open the game and confirm that the progress you care about is available on the replacement device.
- Capture screenshots of important completed cases if the game does not clearly advertise cloud saves.
- When transferring devices, choose options that preserve app data and verify the result before wiping the source phone.
- Keep Play Games signed in to the same account if the game’s listing indicates that it uses Play Games.

The practical recovery order
Use the same Google Account, install the matching edition, and let Google Play verify the one-time unlock. Then check the Play Games account—but treat progress as potentially local and protect the old installation before any destructive action. If the purchase remains locked or a save is missing, preserve the receipt, device information and screenshots and contact Playstack. That sequence gives you the best chance of recovering both access and progress without erasing the only copy of your data.
