If a PS5 game you own shows a lock, sign in to the account that owns it and go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. Select the relevant game or licenses, then try launching the game again. You can also highlight the game on the home screen or in Game Library, press Options, and choose Restore License. PlayStation says restoring licenses does not affect saved data.
Restore a license on PS5
- Sign in to the PlayStation account that purchased the game or holds the entitlement.
- Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses.
- Select the game or licenses you want to restore and follow the on-screen prompts.
- Alternatively, highlight the game on the home screen or in Game Library, press Options, and select Restore License.
- When the process finishes, try starting the game.
License restoration asks PlayStation to verify the content associated with your account; it does not replace a purchase or repair saved data.
Why a purchased game may still be locked
A lock icon does not by itself mean the purchase has disappeared. Check which account owns the game and how you access it before changing console settings.
The game was purchased on a different account
Sign in to the account that made the purchase and check its transaction history for a successful transaction. If the game belongs to another person who uses this PS5, that account must enable Console Sharing and Offline Play on this console for other users to access its purchased and downloaded games.

The game came through PlayStation Plus
Check that the account’s PlayStation Plus subscription is active and that the game remains available through the relevant PlayStation Plus offering. A subscription entitlement is not the same as owning a permanent purchase.
The console cannot verify the entitlement
A temporary PlayStation Network connection or service problem can prevent the console from confirming a license. Check PlayStation service status and install any available PS5 system software update. If a service issue is reported, wait until it is resolved and try again.

Enable Console Sharing and Offline Play
If another account owns the game, enable sharing while signed in to that account on the PS5 where other users need access.
- On the owning account, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play.
- Choose Enable.
PlayStation allows this setting on one PS5 at a time. It is automatically enabled on the first PS5 used to sign in. To move it to a replacement console, disable it on the previous PS5 first. If you cannot access that console, PlayStation allows remote deactivation of all devices, with a limit of once every six months. Users of the enabled console can play the enabling account’s purchased and downloaded games and media offline, and can use some PlayStation Plus benefits.

What to try if restoring licenses does not work
- Recheck ownership or access conditions. Confirm the purchasing account and transaction, or verify the subscription and catalog availability if the game is accessed through PlayStation Plus.
- Check sharing settings. If another account owns the game, confirm Console Sharing and Offline Play is enabled on this PS5 for that account.
- Check PlayStation Network and system software. Review service status and install available updates; wait out any reported service interruption.
- Restore the licenses. Use either of the PS5 routes above, then try the game again.
- Try Safe Mode troubleshooting. For persistent locked-game or download trouble, PlayStation recommends Clear Cache and Rebuild Database. Follow PlayStation’s current Safe Mode instructions for the exact steps.
- Contact PlayStation Support if access is still blocked. Have the error code or message, a clear description and reproduction steps, and the time you tried to access the game ready.
Fix error CE-109258-5
PlayStation identifies CE-109258-5 as a server-connection failure that prevented confirmation of the content license. The issue may be temporary. Follow PlayStation’s prescribed sequence:

- Check PlayStation service status.
- Restart the PS5.
- Turn off the router and modem for at least five minutes, then restart them.
- Try Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses again.
