To recover, restore power and internet, reopen YouTube, and replay the video or playlist. To avoid losing your selection, save videos to a named playlist before the outage; a browser queue is not saved when you close the browser.
What YouTube does—and does not—resume
Autoplay is for moving to another related video after the current video ends. YouTube’s guidance does not describe it as a way to restore playback after a device loses power. Its computer queue guidance also says the queue will not be saved after the browser is closed. Neither feature guarantees that playback will return to the exact playlist item or timestamp after an outage.
Behavior may vary by device, operating system, app, and browser. YouTube’s general restart troubleshooting recommends returning to the app and trying to play the video again, but does not promise automatic playlist restoration.
Prepare a podcast playlist so it is easy to reopen
- Save the videos to a playlist. If you have queued episodes in YouTube on a computer, save them to a named playlist before closing the browser or ending the session. A playlist preserves your selection for later; it does not guarantee a saved playback position.
- Use autoplay only for end-of-video continuation. Turn it on if you want another related video to play after the current one ends. Its settings can differ between devices, and it is not an outage-recovery setting.
- After power returns, restore the connection. Turn the streaming device back on and reconnect the modem or router if needed. Open YouTube, locate the playlist or video, and press play. If you need a particular point, seek to it manually.
Prevent interruptions with a UPS
If the goal is to keep a short outage from interrupting listening, a UPS can supply battery power to connected equipment such as a router, modem, computer, or television. APC describes UPS backup and surge protection for connected equipment when power is interrupted or fluctuates. This is prevention, not a YouTube resume feature.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Choose a unit that supports the equipment you intend to keep powered.
- Account for the combined load of the streaming device and network equipment; runtime is finite and depends on that load and the battery.
- A UPS cannot help once its battery is depleted, and it does not make YouTube restore a playlist or timestamp.
What about YouTube Music’s connected-device setting?
YouTube Music documents a “Continue Listening on Connected Devices” feature for continuing active queues across connected devices. That guidance concerns switching devices; it does not establish that a queue will recover after a power outage, and it should not be assumed to apply to all YouTube playback.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you are the creator running a YouTube podcast stream from uploaded recordings, a cloud service can keep that broadcast running independently of a home computer. StreamNeo is a separate way to play uploaded videos as a 24/7 YouTube live stream; it does not restore a viewer’s personal YouTube playlist or go live from a camera.
