Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo run a nonstop YouTube stream of Punjabi folk videos from an Indian VPS, clear the rights to every recording and visual, create a live event in YouTube Studio, and use an encoder such as FFmpeg on the VPS to send a prepared audio-video program to YouTube over RTMPS. A VPS can keep the encoder running without your home computer, but it cannot guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast: the server, network route, encoder and YouTube ingest all matter.
Before you set up the stream, clear the content
Punjabi folk is a genre, not a license. A traditional melody, an old song, a publicly viewable YouTube video or an artist credit does not by itself give you permission to rebroadcast a particular recording or music video. YouTube’s Terms of Service make the provider responsible for having the rights needed to distribute content, while its live-stream guidance warns that licensed third-party content may still be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel in Content ID. See YouTube Help’s Copyright issues with live streams and YouTube’s Terms of Service.
For each item, document permission for the actual uses you intend: live broadcast, territories, duration, any saved replay and monetization if applicable. Music may involve distinct rights in the sound recording and the underlying composition; a video can add separate audiovisual rights. Permission from one contributor may not cover the others. If you cannot establish the necessary rights, replace the item rather than testing it on air. This guide does not determine the legal status of any particular Punjabi song or recording in India.
Do not assume a claimed match will be harmless
YouTube says live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. A detected match can lead to a placeholder, interruption or termination. If you have a license, contact the relevant rights owner about adding your channel to its Content ID allowlist before you go live. Rights clearance and platform enforcement are separate: a license does not necessarily prevent an automated interruption if the channel has not been allowlisted.

Check that your channel can go live
- Verify the YouTube channel. YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days.
- Enable live streaming in YouTube Studio. Complete any account prompts and wait until Studio confirms that live streaming is available. Do this before the planned broadcast; do not assume a new channel will be ready at the last minute.
- Confirm the encoder workflow. Create or schedule a stream in Studio and check that the Live Control Room offers encoder settings. Studio’s event setup is the simplest route for a basic VPS broadcast; the YouTube API is optional.
Create the event and protect its stream key
In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go live, choose the encoder workflow, then create or schedule the event. YouTube distinguishes the event (the broadcast/video) from the incoming stream (the audio-video feed sent by the encoder). Copy the server address and stream key from that event’s stream settings into the VPS configuration.
- Use the RTMPS server address shown by Studio. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which sends RTMP through an SSL connection.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not put it in a public repository, screenshot, shared transcript or article. If it is exposed, reset it in the Live Control Room and update the encoder.
- Use the event’s displayed server address and key rather than guessing an ingest URL. Keep them out of shell history where possible, and restrict access to any configuration file that contains them.
Prepare the Punjabi folk program on the VPS
Use an India-region Linux VPS only after checking the provider’s current sustained outbound-transfer policy, included egress allowance, CPU capacity and price. No particular provider or plan has been validated here, so there is no defensible server-size or hosting-price recommendation. The region may be useful for your operations, but it does not guarantee the best route to YouTube ingest or uninterrupted service.

- Install FFmpeg using the package method supported by your Linux distribution. Confirm the installed build includes the encoders you intend to use, such as
libx264for H.264 and AAC for audio. - Place only cleared media in a dedicated directory. Make sure the account that runs FFmpeg can read the files and that the disk has room for any local recording.
- Build and inspect the program before the event. For a simple, predictable loop, render the selected songs and visuals into one continuous, standard-format audio-video file, or test your chosen playlist method on a private/unlisted event. A playlist made from files with different codecs, frame rates, durations or audio layouts may need extra handling. YouTube’s guidance does not validate a particular FFmpeg playlist script.
- Check the finished file. Confirm that video and audio are present, levels are usable, transitions are acceptable, and the full program ends or loops as intended. Ensure the visual track is authorized too; a still image does not remove the need for rights to the audio.
Choose output settings for the real connection
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends H.264 with constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and no interval longer than four seconds. AAC or MP3 audio is supported. At H.264 720p30, YouTube lists 8 Mbps recommended and 3 Mbps minimum; at H.264 1080p30, it lists 14 Mbps recommended and 5 Mbps minimum. These are YouTube recommendations, not proof that a VPS can sustain the required outbound rate. Test from the actual server and leave headroom for network variation.
For 30 fps output, a two-second GOP is 60 frames. If the source is not 30 fps, set the GOP to twice the output frame rate instead of copying 60 blindly. Select a resolution and bitrate that the VPS CPU and sustained upload can handle; a stable lower-quality stream is preferable to an encoder that repeatedly falls behind.

Start an illustrative FFmpeg stream
The following is a template for looping one already-prepared file to the exact RTMPS address shown in YouTube Studio. It is not a tested universal command: FFmpeg builds, input formats, server configuration and Studio’s displayed endpoint can differ. First run it with a private or unlisted test event and check YouTube’s stream health.
export MEDIA_FILE="/srv/punjabi-live/program.mp4"
export YOUTUBE_RTMPS_URL="<paste the RTMPS server address and stream key from YouTube Studio>"
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i "$MEDIA_FILE"
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -b:v 8M -maxrate 8M -bufsize 16M
-g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv "$YOUTUBE_RTMPS_URL"
This template encodes at a target video bitrate of 8 Mbps and sets a 60-frame GOP, which is two seconds only if output is 30 fps. It does not force a frame rate or resolution; those depend on the input. If your prepared file is not 30 fps, choose matching GOP settings or explicitly convert the output and adjust the keyframe interval. The 8 Mbps figure matches YouTube’s recommended H.264 720p30 bitrate, but it is not a universal setting for every resolution or source.

Keep the stream URL private. Environment variables avoid embedding the key directly in the command text, but may still be visible to privileged processes or administrators on the VPS. For a long-running service, use a protected configuration or secret mechanism appropriate to your system and restrict its permissions. Do not publish logs that may expose the URL.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Keep the VPS process supervised and check the broadcast
Run FFmpeg under a service manager or process supervisor so it can be restarted after a process failure. A restart mechanism is not failover and does not promise a seamless recovery: verify how your particular event and encoder behave after a disconnect. YouTube’s documentation does not guarantee that a restarted encoder will resume the same event without interruption.

- Watch FFmpeg’s output for encoding errors, dropped frames and reconnect attempts.
- Monitor CPU, memory, disk space and network drops on the VPS.
- Check the Live Control Room’s stream-health indicators and confirm public playback from a separate device or connection.
- Test with media that has motion and audio similar to the real program, as YouTube recommends testing and monitoring encoder output.
- Check the VPS plan’s egress rules before launch. At 8 Mbps, the video data alone is roughly 86.4 GB over 24 hours (8 megabits per second × 86,400 seconds ÷ 8 ÷ 1,000), before protocol overhead. This is an arithmetic estimate, not a provider quota.
Choose how to handle replays
YouTube’s archive guidance says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A nonstop broadcast therefore should not be treated as a guaranteed complete YouTube replay. If a full record matters, configure local recording independently, test it, monitor available disk space and copy completed files to separate storage. An external hard drive can be an optional physical backup, but it is not required for VPS-to-YouTube ingest.
| Approach | What it helps with | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| One long continuous event | Fewer event boundaries to manage. | An event longer than 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube; a complete archive needs a separately tested recording plan. |
| Planned shorter events with controlled restarts | Creates more manageable event boundaries and potential individual replay files. | Requires additional operations and does not guarantee archive capture or uninterrupted viewing between events. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If you would rather not maintain a VPS and encoder, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. - Your computer and home connection do not need to stay on.
- One flat price per slot covers any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, without re-encoding or quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card; one free day is available per account.
- Monthly: $9.99 per month.
For Indian creators, UPI and cards are supported; card checkout is available worldwide. See StreamNeo pricing for the available billing lengths and regional price display. Start your free StreamNeo day.
Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube shows no incoming video | Wrong event, server address or stream key; the key may have been reset; FFmpeg may not be running. | Compare the encoder settings against the active event in Studio, confirm FFmpeg is sending to the displayed RTMPS address, and inspect its logs. Reset an exposed key and update the encoder. |
| Stream health is poor or frames drop | Insufficient sustained egress, VPS CPU saturation, or output settings too demanding for the server. | Check server CPU and network metrics, test sustained upload, then reduce resolution or bitrate and retest. Do not assume a provider’s headline port speed is sustained usable bandwidth. |
| Broadcast is interrupted after a song starts | A Content ID match or rights-owner enforcement action may be affecting the live stream. | Review Live Control Room notices, stop broadcasting the disputed item, confirm the scope of your license, and ask the rights owner about channel allowlisting where appropriate. |
| The replay is missing or incomplete | The stream exceeded 12 hours, or the local recording was not configured or ran out of space. | Use a separately tested local recording workflow for a complete archive and monitor free disk space. Do not rely on YouTube capture for a stream over 12 hours. |
| FFmpeg exits or does not restart cleanly | Input file or playlist error, permission issue, exhausted resources, or supervisor configuration problem. | Read the service and FFmpeg logs, verify file paths and access, check free disk and resource use, and test the restart behavior on a non-public event before relying on it. |
Keep monetization separate from copyright clearance
Having rights to the songs does not by itself make a channel eligible for YouTube monetization. YouTube’s monetization policies identify repetitive or mass-produced material as potentially inauthentic, and reused content must add meaningful original value such as commentary, substantive changes, or educational or entertainment value. Reviews consider the channel as a whole. Build a distinct program through original curation, context or presentation, and check current YouTube Partner Program requirements without assuming that a continuous music loop will qualify.
