To recruit Katsuhime in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, complete her questline and rescue her during The Diary of Lady Rokkaku: reach her quickly, defeat Isono Kazumasa, and carry her to safety. Choose “Yes, join us” when prompted. To romance her, complete The Jounin Pillow Book and choose “Let’s find out” at Jogu Shrine; select “Yes. Forever” if you want to commit to the relationship.
Before you start: how the romance route works
Recruitment and romance use the same Katsuhime questline, but they are separate outcomes. You can add her to your team by rescuing and recruiting her, then choose whether to start a romance and whether to commit to it.

For the romance route, select the flirt responses when they appear. The essential recruitment gate is her survival in The Diary of Lady Rokkaku; the romance decision comes later in The Jounin Pillow Book.
How to reach Katsuhime’s questline
Naoe first meets Katsuhime during Showdown in Sakamoto. GameSpot’s guide says this becomes available after progressing through Yasuke’s Lady of Whispers personal quest and the Naginata target arc. During the meeting, choose “I like your teppo.” After completing the arc, look for the side quest Letter from Katsuhime.

Complete the quests and choose the romance dialogue
1. Letter from Katsuhime
Return to Katsuhime in Koga, in the Shimmering Fields. She asks for sake. Search the ruined house and use the ladder behind it to reach the underground area, then bring the sake back. Choose “It offers time with me.”
2. The Tale of Genin
In Kumagawa, Wakasa, investigate the signs of a struggle by speaking with villagers and examining clues. Help Katsuhime fight the samurai at the cabin. After the fight, choose “I do enjoy your company.”

3. The Diary of Lady Rokkaku: rescue and recruit Katsuhime
At Omizo Tenshu, move quickly to Katsuhime and defeat Isono Kazumasa. GameSpot warns that delaying too long can result in her death. Once the fight is over, clear nearby guards, pick Katsuhime up, and carry her to the marked safe area outside the castle. At the recruitment prompt, choose “Yes, join us.”
If she dies during this quest, the recruitment opportunity is at risk: the rescue is the gate that makes her available to join the team. Ubisoft’s Title Update 1.0.6 notes list fixes for several problems affecting this quest, including completion issues after dodge-rolling and dropping Katsuhime, and cases where no immediate carry option appeared. The same notes list a fix for being unable to speak with her in the crop field while she was sitting on the ground. These are issues Ubisoft marked as fixed in that update, not a claim that they are currently recurring.

4. The Jounin Pillow Book: start and commit to the romance
After The Diary of Lady Rokkaku, take the optional Wakasa quest The Jounin Pillow Book from The League > Katsuhime. Find Katsuhime near Jogu Shrine and choose “Let’s find out” to begin the romance.

Can Katsuhime leave the Hideout after a breakup?
GamesRadar+ reports a possible breakup scenario in which Katsuhime can be removed from the Hideout, but the guide describes the trigger as unclear and potentially bugged. Treat this as a reported risk rather than a confirmed, predictable consequence of a particular dialogue choice.
