To run recorded GATE lectures as a 24/7 YouTube Live stream, send them from an encoder—such as OBS—to YouTube’s Live Control Room, where you create the broadcast and provide the stream URL and key. The encoder, computer, source files, power, and internet connection must stay available for a local setup. You can also use StreamNeo to play uploaded recordings from the cloud instead of leaving a computer running.
What a 24/7 recorded-lecture stream requires
YouTube Live receives a live feed from an encoder; it does not turn a normal video into a live broadcast just because the video is playing or looping on its watch page. The encoder sends your lecture file or playlist to YouTube as a live stream. YouTube then transcodes the feed for different devices and network conditions.
Before launch, decide whether your programme will repeat one lecture, cycle through several lessons, or follow a scheduled sequence. Test that the encoder restarts or advances files as intended, and check that audio remains synchronized with video. Looping controls vary by encoder; YouTube’s encoder connection guidance does not prescribe a universal file-loop procedure.
Prepare your channel and lecture material
Enable YouTube Live before you need it
Your channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live-streaming activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well ahead of the planned start. YouTube supports encoder streaming as an official way to broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.

Check rights and GATE-specific content
Confirm you have permission to broadcast the lecture and every element within it: slides, diagrams, embedded clips, images, background music, and contributions or likenesses of students or guests where relevant. YouTube’s livestream terms make rights the broadcaster’s responsibility: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” Read the YouTube livestream terms.
Third-party material can lead to a warning to stop streaming or to an interruption. If a stream stops, check the Studio dashboard for notices. Permission to use material does not guarantee monetization: YouTube applies its inauthentic-content and reused-content policies to channels, and its decision depends on the channel and content. A repetitive lecture loop may therefore raise monetization questions even when you hold the necessary rights. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies before relying on revenue.

How to set up the YouTube Live broadcast
- Prepare your lecture files and playlist. Put the files in the order you want viewers to see them. In your encoder, confirm how to loop a single file or advance through a sequence, then rehearse a complete transition. Check picture, sound, and synchronization before going live.
- Create or schedule the stream. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. Create a stream or use the Manage tab to schedule one. Scheduling gives you a watch page to promote and lets viewers set reminders.
- Copy the connection details. In the Live Control Room, retrieve the YouTube server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: anyone with access may be able to connect an encoder to your stream. Don’t share it publicly.
- Configure the encoder. Enter the server URL and stream key, select an output profile your encoder and upload connection can sustain, and load the lecture or playlist as its source. Use YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate recommendations to choose resolution and bitrate. Check that the encoder can produce the selected profile reliably; the recommended values and supported capabilities can change.
- Preview before starting. Start sending the encoder feed. For a scheduled broadcast, wait for the preview to appear in the Live Control Room; check the image, audio, and stream health before selecting Go live.
- Verify from a viewer’s perspective. Open the watch page on another device, preferably a phone, and confirm that the stream is accessible and the lecture is playing correctly. Keep the Live Control Room and encoder visible so you can spot health warnings or playback problems.
Keep a local stream running around the clock
With a local encoder, continuous operation depends on every part of the chain staying available: the host computer, encoder process, lecture files or storage, power, and upload connection. A computer going to sleep, an encoder closing, a file ending unexpectedly, or a connection dropping can interrupt the feed. Test the full playlist and reconnection behavior before relying on it unattended, and arrange a way to monitor the stream.
YouTube recommends testing ahead of time, checking the preview, monitoring local archive-file growth when recording locally, and verifying access on mobile. A local recording can provide a fallback if the platform archive is unavailable, but it adds storage and operational responsibility. YouTube does not specify a required storage device or capacity; an external drive is an optional way to retain source files or recordings.

Choose between one long broadcast and shorter broadcasts
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived. A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That makes continuous viewing and replay preservation separate planning problems: one uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast may serve the first, but should not be treated as a dependable archive of the full day. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
If viewers need replays, plan distinct broadcasts that stay below the 12-hour threshold, with deliberate transitions between them, and keep a local recording as backup if the archive matters. Test how each transition appears to viewers. YouTube’s archive guidance says “shorter than 12 hours”; do not assume a broadcast lasting exactly 12 hours is covered by that wording.

If YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo automatically attempts recovery. The first day is free with no card.
Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across your active slots, playlists and 24/7 looping, automatic recovery if YouTube drops, and support from the StreamNeo team. Monetization is conditional, not automatic
If your channel is eligible, YouTube Live may offer features such as ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships. Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. Check eligibility and available settings in the Live Control Room rather than assuming a lecture stream will earn revenue. YouTube’s encoder and live-stream guidance covers setup; its monetization policies set the channel-level requirements.
Quick Recap
Troubleshoot common 24/7 stream problems
| What you see | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Live streaming is unavailable for the channel | Live access has not been enabled, activation is still processing, or the channel has a restriction. | Verify the channel, check for a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and allow up to 24 hours for first activation. |
| No preview appears in the Live Control Room | The encoder may not be sending to the correct YouTube server URL, or the stream key may be incorrect. | Compare the URL and key with the Live Control Room, re-enter them privately, and confirm the encoder is sending its feed. |
| The stream starts but the picture or sound is wrong | The selected output profile may exceed what the encoder or connection can sustain, or the source may have a playback or synchronization issue. | Test the lecture locally, check audio-video sync, and select a profile using YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance. |
| The lecture stops or fails to advance | The source file ended, the playlist transition failed, storage became unavailable, or the encoder process stopped. | Rehearse the complete sequence, verify file access and loop behavior, and monitor the encoder and source storage. |
| The stream disconnects unexpectedly | The local computer, power, encoder process, or upload connection may have failed. | Check the encoder and connection, then inspect stream health in the Live Control Room. For unattended streaming, assess whether local hosting or a cloud playout service better fits your recovery and monitoring needs. |
| The broadcast ends but there is no complete replay | The stream exceeded 12 hours, beyond which YouTube says an archive may not be captured at all. | Use planned shorter broadcasts if replays matter, and retain a local recording as a separate backup. |
| YouTube warns about third-party content or interrupts the live feed | A rights issue may involve music, clips, images, slides, or another contributor’s material. | Review the Studio dashboard and confirm you have the necessary rights for every component of the broadcast. |
