YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including licensed tracks that have not been allowlisted for your channel.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified and eligible for live streaming. YouTube says the channel must have no livestream restriction in the preceding 90 days.
- An encoder that can send a continuous feed with an audio source and a visual. YouTube supports encoder streaming, but its guidance does not establish a universal minimum computer specification or endorse a particular encoder.
- Kannada instrumental recordings and visual material for which you have the necessary rights.
- A stable power and internet connection, monitoring, and a procedure for recovering from a dropped feed.
Enable livestreaming well ahead of launch. YouTube for Artists recommends allowing at least 24 hours before a first stream is enabled, then testing the setup with an unlisted broadcast.
Clear music and visual rights first
Instrumental music is not automatically free to rebroadcast. An old track, a track found online, or a recording without vocals can still be protected. Before streaming, get written permission or confirm that your license covers the actual use.
Confirm the scope of permission
Ask the applicable rights holder—such as a label, distributor, or other owner—to confirm that the recordings may be used in a continuous YouTube livestream. Check separately whether permission covers the territories you intend to reach, archived playback after the live broadcast, and monetization if you plan to monetize. Keep the permissions and related correspondence on file.

Coordinate Content ID allowlisting
YouTube scans all live streams for matches to third-party content. A matched stream may be replaced with a placeholder image, interrupted, or terminated if the material continues. YouTube says that even creators with a license should ask the rights holder to add their channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube for Artists likewise advises music channels to coordinate with their label or distributor when using protected music; see YouTube for Artists and YouTube Help’s copyright guidance for live streams.
Allowlisting is not a substitute for permission. If the stream stops, check YouTube Studio for warnings and contact the rights holder about the claim or allowlist status. Restarting without resolving the underlying rights issue does not make the use authorized.

Clear artwork and other visuals
A static image or simple custom visual can accompany the music, but you need rights to use it too. Do not assume that artwork bundled with a track is cleared for a public livestream, or that credit alone grants permission.
Choose the stream format and presentation
YouTube supports horizontal and vertical live formats. Horizontal is usually the more natural fit for a sustained music visual viewed on televisions and desktop screens; vertical can suit phone viewing and may appear in the Shorts feed. YouTube’s available features differ by format, and dual streaming through RTMP(S) with a third-party encoder is also described in its current guidance. Check the current YouTube live-streaming setup and feature information before choosing your layout.

Make the visual legible at the size people will watch it. A still image can be adequate, but a custom, rights-cleared visual or restrained animation can make a long broadcast easier to identify. Format choice does not change the need to clear the music and imagery.
Set up and launch the broadcast
- Prepare the playlist. Assemble original or properly licensed Kannada instrumental recordings. Keep a track list and the corresponding rights records. Arrange the playlist so the transitions and overall duration suit a continuous broadcast.
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, complete channel verification and enable livestreaming. For a first stream, allow at least 24 hours for the feature to become available, following YouTube for Artists’ guidance.
- Configure the encoder. Select the encoder method in YouTube’s live control room, then provide the encoder with the stream key and server details shown there. Keep the stream key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel. Add the prepared audio source and a rights-cleared visual, and use the encoder’s current requirements for output settings.
- Run an unlisted test. Confirm that YouTube receives the feed, audio is audible and continuous, the correct visual appears, and the stream is in the intended orientation. Check for warnings in YouTube Studio. Verify that permissions and any Content ID allowlisting arrangements are in place before switching to a public broadcast.
- Start the public stream and monitor it. Watch YouTube Studio for stream-health messages, copyright notices, or other warnings. Keep a recovery plan for an encoder, power, or internet failure. YouTube’s guidance does not promise uninterrupted 24/7 uptime.
- Review the archive and claims. Decide whether to retain the completed broadcast. YouTube says Content ID claims on archived live streams are made after the stream finishes, so check the archive and any claims afterward.
YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation explicitly describes a channel broadcasting a 24/7 live feed. That establishes that continuous feeds are supported by the broadcast model, not that a specific encoder, computer, connection, or service will remain uninterrupted. Local encoder or cloud service?
A local encoder gives you direct control over playback and production, but the computer, encoder, power, and internet connection must remain available for the broadcast to continue. A cloud-hosted option shifts the playback work away from your home computer; compare its quality limits, recovery behavior, billing period, and storage allowance before choosing. No YouTube guidance establishes a specific provider as more reliable.
For context, YouTube for Artists reported that over 30% of daily logged-in YouTube viewers watched live content in Q2 2025. That is a platform-wide figure, not a forecast for Kannada instrumental music or an individual channel.
