The two hardest parts are keeping the broadcast available and ensuring that each track—and any replay—has the permissions it needs. Devotional subject matter, instrumental-only music, attribution, or a track being available online does not by itself grant those rights.
What you need before you launch
- A verified YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube’s current guidance sets 16 as the minimum age for live streaming.
- A prepared program of music and visuals, with permission to use every element in the live broadcast and any archive you intend to retain.
- An encoder workflow, a reliable internet connection, and a person or process that can notice and respond to a dropped feed or rights warning.
- A plan for the broadcast length, replay archive, and any future monetization. None of these guarantees uninterrupted streaming or revenue.
YouTube for Artists advises enabling first-time live access at least 24 hours before the planned broadcast. Check your channel’s current eligibility and live access in YouTube Studio before building the schedule around a launch date.
Clear the music and visuals before making a playlist
Get permission for the recording and the musical work
A recording and the composition embodied in it can involve separate rights. For each track, establish who controls the sound recording and who controls the underlying musical work, including any arrangement you plan to use. A traditional or old composition may still have a protected modern arrangement or recording. Do not infer permission from devotional subject matter, age, online availability, or attribution.
Keep a rights log for every track and visual. Record the work and composer, arrangement, performers, recording owner, permission source, territories, licence term, and whether the permission covers live streaming, commercial use, and an archived replay. Keep copies of permissions and contact details available if a claim or warning arises.

Check licence scope and Content ID handling
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A licence does not necessarily prevent an interruption: YouTube says a licensed channel may still be interrupted if the rights owner has not added it to their Content ID allowlist. Ask each relevant owner or distributor to allowlist your channel before launch, and confirm that the permission covers the exact channel and intended use.
Royalty-free and Creative Commons labels are not blanket clearance. Check the actual licence for commercial-use rights and for permission to transmit the material in your planned format. YouTube’s monetization rules also require commercial rights to the audio and visual elements you use.
Do not assume a religious-ceremony exception applies
India’s Copyright Act, 1957 describes “communication to the public” broadly and addresses rights in musical works and sound recordings, including communication to the public. The Act also contains an exception concerning communication of a work or sound recording in the course of a bona fide religious ceremony. That wording does not establish that a continuously available devotional music channel is a religious ceremony or qualifies for the exception. Do not treat devotional music as free to use on that basis.

Indian copyright materials also describe a statutory licensing route for broadcasting certain published works and recordings, with notice and royalty provisions. Whether that route applies to a particular YouTube stream, channel, or business model—and what procedures or rates currently apply—is a specific legal question, not an automatic YouTube music licence. Get advice from qualified Indian copyright counsel before relying on it.
Prepare the channel and live event
- Verify eligibility. Confirm the channel is verified, has no live-streaming restriction in the prior 90 days, and meets YouTube’s minimum age requirement. If this is your first live broadcast, enable access at least 24 hours before you need to go live.
- Build and test the program. Assemble only cleared music and visuals into the intended sequence. Check transitions, volume consistency, and that the encoder produces an audio-and-visual feed. Run an unlisted test before announcing the public broadcast.
- Create the live event in YouTube Studio. Set the title, description, privacy, and thumbnail. Choose the event duration and archive plan before starting the encoder.
- Connect the encoder. Use the stream details YouTube provides for the event. Enter the stream key in the encoder’s stream settings, keep it private, and do not share screenshots or files that expose it. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio before broadcasting again.
- Confirm the feed before going public. Check YouTube’s incoming-stream status and the encoder preview, then start the public broadcast only after the test looks and sounds correct.
Configure an encoder for a continuous music program
YouTube supports encoder-based streaming, which is useful when you want more production control over a prepared program. The reviewed YouTube guidance does not require a particular encoder appliance, computer model, or hardware specification. A local computer is one way to run an encoder, but it must remain powered, connected, and supervised for as long as it is responsible for the feed.
In the encoder, configure the fields YouTube supplies or recommends for your event. The settings to verify are:

- Video bitrate and keyframe interval: use the current values recommended for the selected YouTube event and output. The required values can depend on the chosen resolution and frame rate; do not copy an arbitrary preset.
- Audio format and bitrate: confirm the program is sending audio and that the chosen audio settings are accepted by the encoder and YouTube.
- Stream destination and key: confirm the destination and event key match the event you intend to run. Treat the key as a password.

Choose a duration and plan for replays
Google’s live-production guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For broadcasts longer than 12 hours, it advises the creator’s team to record locally for manual upload. If you want a replay, confirm that the music and visuals are licensed for that separate use; a live-stream permission may not cover a permanent or separately uploaded recording. Archived streams can also receive Content ID claims after the live broadcast ends.

Monitor the stream and recover from interruptions
A 24/7 channel needs an operating process, not just a playlist. Keep YouTube Studio and encoder status available to whoever is responsible for the broadcast. Decide who will respond to a feed drop, connection or power failure, encoder crash, or rights warning, and how they will restart the feed or pause the affected material. Test the recovery steps during an unlisted run.
For a local encoder, the computer and network are part of the live path. If either stops working, the feed can stop until the problem is fixed and the encoder reconnects. The sources for this guide do not establish a guaranteed-uplink design or promise uninterrupted uptime for any specific service.

Set realistic monetization expectations
As accessed in 2026, YouTube’s full YouTube Partner Program eligibility threshold is 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 qualified public watch hours during the previous 12 months or 10 million qualified Shorts views during the previous 90 days. Other conditions include policy compliance, YPP availability in your country or region, no active Community Guidelines strikes, account security steps, advanced features, and an AdSense for YouTube account. Meeting the threshold does not guarantee acceptance; YouTube reviews the channel. Check the Earn area in Studio for current eligibility.
Monetization also has a content-quality dimension: YouTube expects original, non-repetitious content and commercial-use rights for audio and visuals. Licensed music alone does not guarantee that a static visual or repetitive loop will qualify. Audience growth and income are not assured.
