Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteYou can run a 24/7 Pomodoro study stream by looping recorded sessions in OBS and sending the output to YouTube through its encoder-based live workflow. YouTube does not loop your file for you: OBS, your computer, power and internet connection must remain available. If you would rather not leave a computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud option for looping uploaded videos to YouTube.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream: it must be verified and must not have had a livestreaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If this is a new channel, enable livestreaming in advance. See YouTube’s getting-started guidance.
- A computer running OBS Studio, your recorded Pomodoro session files, and a stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the selected stream bitrate.
- Rights to stream and archive every element in the recording, including music, ambient audio, graphics and any clips from other creators.
- Access to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Your encoder will need the stream URL and stream key for the broadcast.
Prepare the recordings and clear the rights
Decide whether you want to repeat one session or rotate through several. Check each file from beginning to end, including its audio, before adding it to OBS. A recording that was previously available online is not automatically cleared for rebroadcast; confirm that you have the necessary rights for both the live stream and any archive.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If material remains in the broadcast and is identified, YouTube may replace, interrupt or terminate the stream. Even licensed material may require the rights holder to allowlist your channel through Content ID. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams before going live.
Set up a looping source in OBS
Loop one Pomodoro recording
- Open OBS and create or select the scene you want to use for the study stream.
- In the Sources panel, select + and add a Media Source.
- Give the source a recognizable name, select the recording file, and enable Loop in its properties.
- Confirm the video fills the intended canvas and that its audio is audible at a suitable level. Test the actual file: container and codec support can affect playback.
When the file reaches the end, the Media Source should return to its beginning. Verify the transition in a test rather than assuming the file will repeat cleanly.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Cycle through multiple sessions
For a set of recordings, add a VLC Video Source in OBS and build a playlist from the files. The source supports playlist looping; its Loop Playlist option is enabled by default. Use its shuffle control if you want randomized rather than fixed ordering. Check the playlist in preview to confirm that every file plays and that the transitions suit the format. OBS documents its media sources and playback options at OBS Media Sources.
Create the YouTube livestream and connect OBS
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to enter the Live Control Room. Create a new stream or schedule one.
- In YouTube’s stream settings, copy the stream URL and stream key. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter or select the stream details. YouTube’s encoder workflow is described in its live streaming instructions.
- Keep the stream key private: it is a credential that lets an encoder send a feed for YouTube to accept. If someone else gets it, reset the key in the Live Control Room and update OBS.
- Return to YouTube’s Live Control Room and wait for the encoder preview. For a scheduled stream, use the Live Control Room’s live-control action when you are ready to begin; starting the encoder alone may not be the final step.
- Start streaming from OBS, check the preview and stream health, and confirm that the watch page is live before relying on the broadcast.
YouTube’s explanation of stream keys and latency is in Manage live stream settings. For prerecorded study footage, ordinary latency is usually sufficient unless viewers need to interact with you in near real time: lower latency can increase buffering, and there is less reason to minimize delay when live interaction is not part of the format.

Choose a resolution, bitrate and keyframe interval
Choose settings that the computer can encode and the connection can sustain. YouTube’s current encoder guidance, checked in 2026, gives these recommendations for 30 fps video:
| Resolution and frame rate | Codec | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | H.264 | 5 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | H.264 | 3 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | AV1 or H.265 | 4 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | AV1 or H.265 | 2 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
These are YouTube settings recommendations, not a promise of stable performance on a particular machine or network. See the full YouTube live encoder settings for other resolutions, frame rates and codec-specific guidance.

- Rate control: YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) for RTMP/RTMPS.
- Keyframes: Set a 2-second keyframe interval; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Connection headroom: YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload bandwidth above the bitrate in use. Include the backup stream bitrate as well if you configure one.
- Transport: YouTube recommends RTMPS to encrypt the feed.
Run a speed test under conditions similar to the planned broadcast and leave the recommended headroom. A network that barely matches the encoder bitrate can become unstable when other devices or applications use the connection. YouTube’s encoder settings and streaming tips explain the platform’s recommendations and network cautions.
Test before leaving the stream running
- Do a test broadcast with motion and audio similar to the real stream. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health.
- Let the file reach its end and verify that it restarts, that audio stays in sync, and that the transition is acceptable. For a playlist, check both ordering and shuffle behavior if enabled.
- Watch playback from the YouTube watch page, not just the OBS preview. Check that the picture, sound and stream status are as expected.
- If you configure a backup encoder or failover, test that transition before depending on it.
- Keep OBS, the computer and the connection running for a local broadcast. Have a plan to notice and restart a stream that stops.
YouTube warns that “A disruption on your connectivity could mean a broken stream.” Its streaming tips recommend reliable connectivity and testing the actual setup.

Understand 24-hour archive and rewind limits
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance also warns that DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable on very long streams, including streams over 12 hours. Do not count on one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast becoming a complete, rewindable replay. If full replays matter, test ending and restarting the broadcast in shorter segments and confirm the resulting archives separately. See YouTube’s livestream archive guidance.
Viewers may be able to pause or rewind using DVR, but a continuous stream’s rewind availability is not guaranteed across its full duration. Set expectations accordingly, especially for viewers joining mid-session.

Keep a local stream online
A local OBS broadcast depends on the encoder process, computer, power and internet connection for as long as it runs. A UPS battery backup can reduce the risk of a short power interruption, but it does not provide internet connectivity or guarantee continuous streaming. Monitor the broadcast and arrange a way to respond if OBS, the computer, power or network fails.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a Pomodoro recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; the cloud loops the video, so no computer or home connection has to stay on. It streams the video as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot rather than quality-based tiers, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, then start your free day.
