You can use encoder software on a computer, standalone hardware, or a cloud service. For a cloud option, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded-video stream running from the cloud; for a local setup, the computer and connection must remain available.
Choose how to send the recorded lessons to YouTube
YouTube Live accepts feeds from an encoder. The encoder may be software running on a computer or standalone hardware; cloud services are another option for continuous prerecorded streams. YouTube’s encoder directory includes examples of services for this use, but being listed is not an endorsement or a guarantee of uptime.
| Approach | What to consider | What YouTube’s guidance establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Local software encoder | The computer must run the encoder and remain powered and connected. Plan how you will monitor it, restart it, and keep a separate recording. | YouTube supports software encoders on computers, but does not specify a minimum computer configuration for this lesson-stream use case. YouTube encoder setup; YouTube live-streaming tips. |
| Standalone hardware encoder | Check that its inputs, streaming protocol, and recording options fit your production setup. | YouTube supports hardware encoders generally; the cited guidance does not compare specific models. YouTube encoder setup. |
| Cloud service | Confirm it can loop or schedule prerecorded lessons, how it handles interruptions, whether you retain master files, and what it currently costs. | YouTube’s directory includes continuous prerecorded-stream examples. Individual service features and availability need to be confirmed with the provider. YouTube encoder directory. |
Whichever route you choose, prepare the lesson sequence yourself: use clear transitions, readable slides, consistent audio levels, and enough context for viewers who join partway through a lesson.
Set up and start the YouTube Live stream
- Check channel readiness. Your channel must be verified and have no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and live-streaming tips.
- Build and test the lesson playlist. Check that files play in the intended order, lesson changes are understandable, and audio and slides are suitable for viewers joining at any point. Playlist and lesson-management features depend on the encoder or service you choose.
- Create or schedule a stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule the stream. Copy its server URL and stream key into your encoder. YouTube instructs: “To start streaming, enter your YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder.” The key is a credential: do not share it publicly or include it in a recording or screenshot. YouTube’s encoder instructions.
- Preview, then go live. Wait for the feed preview in Live Control Room. Verify the picture, lesson, and audio before starting. After going live, check that the channel’s watch page works on desktop and mobile. YouTube’s encoder instructions.
- Monitor the broadcast. Check stream health, video, and audio regularly. Test your setup in advance and decide how a backup encoder or restart will work; YouTube recommends testing and monitoring quality. YouTube live-streaming tips.
- Keep a separate archive plan. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, recommends a local archive backup, and warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A 24/7 broadcast therefore should not depend on YouTube creating one complete archive. Record and retain the source lessons or broadcast separately. YouTube’s encoder instructions.
Clear rights for every lesson element
Use only material you have the right to broadcast. That includes lesson video, music and other audio, slides, test questions, images, and any clips embedded in a lesson. YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A match may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. Even if you have a licence, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Read YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance and livestream terms and conditions.

Its sample materials can help learners understand the test format, practise task types under time limits, and review model answers. IELTS also says Listening and Speaking are the same for Academic and General Training, while Reading and Writing differ. Troubleshoot common interruptions
- You cannot start a live stream: Check channel verification and whether the channel has a live-stream restriction in the past 90 days. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours.
- The encoder does not connect: Confirm you copied the current server URL and stream key from the correct Live Control Room stream. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube and update the encoder before reconnecting.
- The preview is missing or wrong: Check the encoder’s selected stream, lesson playlist, and connection; wait for the preview and verify it before going live.
- The stream stops or is interrupted: Check stream health and whether YouTube detected third-party content. Test a backup encoder or restart procedure before you need it; a cloud service may offer automatic recovery, but confirm its current behavior with the provider.
- The full day is not available as a YouTube archive: This can happen because streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Keep an independent recording and archive plan rather than relying on the live replay.
