You can run a 24/7 sleep ambience YouTube channel from a low-power PC by using OBS to encode a simple, rights-cleared scene and send it continuously to YouTube over a stable connection. Before launch, verify your channel, test the exact PC under sustained load, and plan for heat, internet or power interruptions—and for the fact that a stream longer than 12 hours should not be relied on as an archived replay.
What you need before going live
- A verified YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours. YouTube’s live-streaming help page also says streamers must be at least 16 years old. YouTube: Get started with live streaming
- A low-power PC that can encode your chosen video and audio continuously without overheating or dropping frames. Hardware encoding may reduce CPU work, but capability and sustained performance vary by PC. OBS: Hardware Encoding
- A stable upload connection, preferably wired Ethernet, and a way to monitor OBS and YouTube stream health.
- Ambience audio and visuals that you created or have permission to use for this purpose. Keep the relevant licenses and records of your own contribution.
Complete channel activation before your intended launch; do not assume a newly enabled channel can stream immediately.
Prepare original, rights-cleared ambience
Use music, field recordings, visuals and artwork that you made or are licensed to use in a YouTube livestream. Keep license documents, source files and notes showing what you contributed. Copyright permission and monetization review are separate questions: permission to use a track does not, by itself, establish that a channel’s content is sufficiently original for monetization.
YouTube’s monetization policy applies to live content and flags repetitive, mass-produced or reused work. Make your creative contribution clear through original recordings, authored sound design, or genuinely distinct scenes and mixes. A static template repeated at scale is a weak foundation; no particular loop, licensed track or AI-generated scene automatically qualifies for monetization. YouTube may review the channel as a whole, including its theme, most-viewed and newest uploads, watch-time share, metadata and About section. YouTube channel monetization policies

Build a low-load OBS scene and test the PC
Start with a simple scene
In OBS, create one scene containing the intended visual and ambience audio. Leave unnecessary browser sources, animated overlays, filters and capture devices out of the initial setup. This limits avoidable work, but does not guarantee a particular CPU load.
Choose conservative output settings first
Start with a modest output such as 720p at 30 fps, then test with the actual visual and audio you intend to broadcast. OBS notes that 60 fps can demand more resources than 30 fps and recommends testing before streaming. If the PC supports a hardware encoder, it can shift encoding work away from the CPU; older hardware encoders may deliver lower quality than software encoding at the same bitrate. Select an encoder supported by your exact PC and assess its sustained performance rather than relying on a brief test. OBS overview · OBS hardware encoding
Run an extended private or unlisted test. Watch OBS statistics, YouTube stream health, dropped frames and the PC’s sustained temperature. A successful short test does not establish that the computer can run unattended for days.

Match YouTube’s current format and bitrate guidance
Do not treat a sample bitrate as a universal YouTube setting. OBS’s hardware-encoding article gives 3,000 kb/s as a 720p30 example in its recording-settings section; that is not a universal livestream prescription. Use the bitrate displayed for your chosen resolution and ingestion configuration in YouTube Live Control Room. If your available upload bandwidth cannot sustain it, lower the resolution or bitrate to a setting YouTube accepts. YouTube encoder settings and live-streaming errors
For the configuration covered by YouTube’s error guidance, use H.264 video and AAC audio. YouTube also identifies unsupported audio formats, multiple audio streams, unsupported channel counts and an incorrect sample rate as possible errors; its examples recommend 128 kb/s audio and use 44.1 kHz as a sample-rate correction. Confirm the current requirements shown for your stream in Live Control Room rather than assuming every configuration uses identical settings.
Connect OBS to YouTube and monitor the stream
- Create the broadcast: In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream.
- Connect the encoder: Copy the stream server URL and stream key from the stream settings into OBS, or use an encoder’s YouTube integration.
- Protect the key: Treat the stream key as a credential. Do not show it in screen captures or share it in public notes.
- Start and inspect: Start streaming from OBS, then wait for YouTube’s preview and stream-health checks before taking the broadcast live. Follow YouTube’s encoder workflow for the current interface. YouTube: Create a live stream with an encoder
- Keep watch: Monitor OBS statistics and YouTube’s stream-health indicator. Enable OBS automatic reconnect, but do not treat it as a guarantee of uninterrupted service.
Use wired Ethernet where possible. OBS says dropped frames can indicate an unstable connection or one that cannot sustain the selected bitrate; lower the bitrate if needed and prefer wired networking to Wi-Fi for streaming. Test recovery by deliberately interrupting the network and restarting the PC before relying on the setup. OBS connection troubleshooting

Plan for home power, heat and internet interruptions
For an India-based home setup, evaluate the actual ISP upload performance and reliability at the hours you expect to stream. Keep the PC and network equipment ventilated and stable. A UPS for the PC and router is an optional way to bridge some power interruptions; choose capacity from the equipment’s actual load and the backup interval you want. Do not assume a particular runtime without sizing it for your own equipment.
Track the PC’s real power draw if you want to estimate electricity cost. A low-power label alone does not establish actual consumption, and the cost depends on your equipment and electricity tariff. Also account for the router, any UPS losses and replacement or maintenance costs when comparing a local setup with a cloud service.

A 24-hour stream is not one guaranteed replay
YouTube Help says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” A single stream intended to run continuously for 24 hours therefore should not be relied on as one archived replay. If you need an archive, schedule shorter broadcasts and check the resulting recording in Studio. YouTube: Create a live stream with an encoder

Archived watch hours are only one eligibility factor
YouTube’s explanation published August 12, 2026 says qualified watch hours can come from public long-form videos and archived livestreams; private, unlisted, deleted and non-archived livestream watch hours do not qualify. This does not mean that accumulating those hours alone meets all YouTube Partner Program conditions. Check the Earn tab in YouTube Studio for your channel’s current eligibility, including any requirements that apply in India. YouTube Partner Program overview and eligibility
Ad delivery and earnings are not assured
YouTube says monetized live streams can use ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and memberships, but ads are not guaranteed in every slot. Mid-roll frequency is a creator choice with consequences for the viewer experience. YouTube reported that creators who enabled automatic live mid-rolls saw, on average, over 20% uplift in instream ad revenue per hour. That comparison covered channels across 207 countries, averaged in January 2024; it is not a forecast for a new ambience channel, an India-based creator or any individual stream. Rights clearance, original work and a technically stable stream do not guarantee monetization approval or income. Review YouTube’s current policies and your channel’s status in Studio.

Choose between a low-power PC and cloud playback
With local OBS, your source and encoder stay on your PC, which must remain powered, connected and healthy. YouTube’s encoder directory also lists cloud-based tools for 24/7 streaming prerecorded video without a dedicated PC. Evaluate a service’s current price, permitted workflow, uptime terms, control, rights responsibility and support for the YouTube features you need. YouTube’s listing is not a guarantee of a particular service’s suitability or uptime. YouTube encoder directory and workflow
| Option | Best fit | What to evaluate |
|---|---|---|
| Local OBS on a low-power PC | You have a suitable PC and want local control | Sustained encoding and heat, actual power draw, upload stability, outage recovery and monitoring |
| Cloud service for prerecorded video | You want playback without leaving a local PC encoding continuously | Current price, permitted workflow, uptime terms, control, rights responsibility and needed YouTube features |
| Separate hardware encoder | Your PC cannot encode reliably, or you prefer dedicated equipment | Compatibility, quality at the selected bitrate, power draw, reliability, monitoring and cost |
These are practical evaluation criteria, not results of a head-to-head hardware test. YouTube’s encoder directory lists cloud and hardware options, while OBS documents hardware-encoding trade-offs.

Quick Recap
Fix common problems before they become a long outage
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| Live streaming is unavailable in Studio | Channel verification or activation is incomplete, or a recent restriction applies | Check channel status and live-streaming eligibility; allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. |
| OBS reports dropped frames or YouTube stream health is poor | Upload connection is unstable or cannot sustain the selected bitrate | Prefer wired Ethernet, check upload performance at the broadcast time, and lower bitrate or resolution to a supported setting. |
| Video or audio format error | Encoder settings do not match the ingestion configuration | Check Live Control Room settings; for the guidance cited above, use H.264 video and AAC audio and verify audio stream count, channel count and sample rate. |
| PC slows, overheats or drops frames after hours | Sustained load, cooling limits or unnecessary scene sources | Test the complete scene for an extended period, simplify it, verify hardware encoder support and assess temperature and performance before relaunching. |
| Stream does not resume after a disconnection | Network, PC or encoder recovery did not succeed | Check OBS reconnect settings, internet and power; rehearse network interruption and PC restart recovery rather than assuming automatic reconnect will work. |
| No archive appears for the full 24-hour broadcast | The stream exceeded YouTube’s under-12-hour automatic archive rule | Use shorter scheduled broadcasts if you need archives, then confirm each replay in Studio. |
| Music claim, restriction or monetization concern | Rights, reused-content review or channel policy issue | Review the relevant YouTube notice, confirm the license covers livestream use, retain documentation and make your original contribution clear. |
